How's the Packer decision to go with Rodgers looking now? (1 Viewer)

The OP answered his own question: it has only been two games.I am not saying that Rodgers will end up like Grossman, but I recall a few years ago when Grossman started out the season blazing and he was a hot pickup in fantasy and Bear's fans were saying they had their Qb of the future. Well, suffice it to say that a few more games revealed a bit more about Grossman.
Good points. I think Rodgers will be fine, but let's way and see how he does against some good pass defenses and in the clutch, like when his team is trailing late, before we annoint him, okay? :goodposting:

Packer front office made the right move in getting Favre out of town and let the young guy take over. Favre will be one and done in New York. He threw up a hail mary that some how no Dolphin could get to and won the game. Yesterday he threw the pick that led to the deciding score.

Brett had a great season because of the cast around him and now Rodgers is reaping the same benefits this year. Rodgers will put up some solid numbers this season. The backup issue is a concern, but TT always has a plan.

So far so good. Rodgers has been very impressive. Huge test coming up next Sunday night against the Cowboys.
As a Packer Fan I am looking forward to this week. McNabb hung 280 on Dallas with a good rookie and the best pass catching RB and not alot else to speak of. Rodgers has a stable of great/good WR's that are far and away better than Philly's!!!!! It will be as big of a test for the Pack O-line as anybody. If Rodgers gets the time he will tear up Dallas! The run game is what has me worried.... and I traded for Grand in my keeper league :fishing:

Pack could've used Favre's 6 TDs today.
Rodgers seems like a nice kid, but I am really glad to see the front office get burned on this decision. I think what they did was stupid. And now their playoff chances take a huge hit. If they have to go forward with Matt Flynn it could be really unpleasant in Green Bay.

How did this one game make them get burned by the decision to let Favre go?Burned by the decision to go with 2 rookies as backups sure. But not burned by the decision to go with Rodgers.

they could have had 2 starting qbs on the roster, they got burned and it happened today.

One of the knocks against Rodgers was his previous injury history. Compared to the Cal Ripken of football, Favre, going with Rodgers with no vet backup whatsoever looks rather silly.

I hope people sold high on Rodgers after his 1st 2 weeks... because hes coming back down to earth.

And yes, why would any Franchise tell a Legend that they don't want him anymore... they should of traded Rodgers away instead.

Did you miss he got hurt AGAIN not to mention having the two rookies behind him. The Packers would be better off is 2008 with Favre and anyone that knows football understands that.

We have been over what happened. That legend said he no longer wanted to play or be committed....waffled several times over the offseason, and still could not commit. You don't trade away a guy you spent 3 years developing for maybe one year with a guy who was not totally into coming back right away as evidenced by his waffling several times during the offseason.

I did not miss that he was out a series and came back in.Got hurt on a TD pass.I recall Favre missing parts of several games after getting hurt during them. Now, if he misses significant time...could be an issue. But again...having no veteran backup is the issue buring them here.I stated over and over they were probably better in 2008 with Favre.Too bad the GM has to think about more than just one year.Or is Favre going to block, play LB, CB and safety for this team too now?

What what the Packers record be with Favre right now?
4-1They beat Tampa last week and beat the Falcons today.
Who knows is the real answer.Would he have won the first 2? I don't know.Would he have thrown that same INT today? I don't know.Nobody can really say what their record would be.Hell, he may have even been able to beat Dallas....but we just don't know.
You seem rather defensive today.

What what the Packers record be with Favre right now?
No worse than 3-2 in my opinion and probably 4-1.I'm not blaming today's loss on Rodgers. That was a gutty performance by a guy obviously in a lot of pain. But it's very difficult for me to believe this team would be 2-3 if Favre was the QB.

Wrong the issue has not been the QB. How would Favre done with the way the line has played this year and no running game till today. Brett was not some magic solution to every thing and he may have thrown more picks and cost them a game since he forced the issue.Packers defense has a lot of injuries and how would Brett help out on that side of the ball?? Is he going to take Al Harris's spot, play safety for Rouse or Bigby?? Maybe the ironman could have played DE for Jenkins and also played QB in the same game. There is a lot more to this team loosing than who is at QB.They are also playing a tougher schedule than last year when they won 13 games, if you thought they would repeat 13 wins you may have drank to much green and gold kool aid.Brett quit on this team and franchise more than once since he last put on a Packer uniform. Jets can have him, he has had one great game last week when the Cards turned the ball over a ton of times. He got very lucky on hail mary pass to beat the Dolphins, so he really has not shown this fan he was the be all end all answer for what ails the Packers.

Favre wouldn't have had to leave the Tampa game last week and if he did the Packers would have had some depth at QB instead of a rookie QB. Favre wouldn't have missed a wide open Jennings today and without a bum shoulder would have probably helped the team. By the way....Favre didn't quit on the Packers. The Packers quit on him.Maybe this is what Packer fans don't understand.....Favre helped the team by helping make up for aspects of the team that were not strong.Did you happen to see that Favre had the highest passer rating heading into this week?

Favre would hardly being doing any better than Rodgers. Good riddance to that prima donna putz and bravo to Rodgers for doing so well overall.

You can call it retired or quit. But Brett Favre said in front of all the world that he was done and did it with a tears in his eyes. He decided to leave the frachise, he was even given a chance to come back during the off season and passed. Say what you want but it was his choice to leave.Brett may have played all last week against the Bucs, but he might have thrown more picks in tight coverage. He certainly would not be making the throwns on the run like Rodgers has been doing this year.As a huge Packer fan I understan that Favre was not and never was the reason the team won games. There has always been some type of good players around him when the team was putting up big win totals through out his career.

Actually you may want to check the facts on that. He wasn't given a chance to come back and when he wanted to come back the Packers showed him the door.

If you're being honest, the reason Green Bay is losing games is their defense isn't playing well. Atlanta, an offense most would consider average at best went up and down the field in GB.

Rodgers had over 300 yards and 3 TD with an injured throwing shoulder. If everyone on GB shows up and plays like he did, they win going away.

Well, he wanted to come back? Why was it too late? The Giants wanted Strahan back in late August! You're telling me Favre wanting back BEFORE training camp was too late? That's weak. Favre actually carried the Packers through the lean years. Part of the reason his INTs were high. He was constantly behind, or needing to make huge plays to win games. Yes that's his style, but he played on some awful Packer teams in the last 5-6 years. Why wouldn't a HOF QB win you games? It's not even worth discussing, because you're all upset and bitter.Back to the point. It's really not about did the Packers win, did they lose. It was a bad move regardless of what happens. Going into the season with no backup QB, a 1st year starter on a team loaded with talent who can win it all? HOF QB wanting to come back? It was just a bad move by TT. And it has nothing to do with Rodgers. He has never started in the NFL. He's was an unknown. You can't even argue that. No one in their right mind could have said in June Rodgers was a better QB then Favre. So why did TT go forward like that was the case? Probably ego. The solution was to welcome him back, extend Rodgers (they did, and still do have TONS of cap room) and take your best shot at the SB. It's win-win. A tough west coast game (Seattle always plays well at home) then the Colts. They could be 2-5 in a couple of weeks and it will all fall on Rodgers. Which isn't fair. Rodgers is the future? TT might have damaged his future. Rodgers was already cracking when he told the fans to sit down and shut up this preseason. To put this much pressure on him, to make fans/players/management choose between Favre/Rodgers. Regardless of how Rodgers plays, he will get blamed if they lose. Much worse then if Favre had stayed retired, because after all, what other choice did they have? They DID have a choice, so all this will unfairly fall back on Rodgers. They talk about young QBs losing confidence. Rodgers does not want to see the #### storm that will be GB if they go 2-5. If he got pissed at fans in the preseason, then Rodgers will really crack if they keep losing. If they win or not, it was a risky move with very little upside. You just don't hang Rodgers out like that. TT just really did a disservice to Rodgers and the Packers. I feel sorry for the kid. Every single loss, people will say "if we only had Favre". Will he start pressing? Will the team start pressing? Where is the leadership coming from?I’ll end by saying Rodgers is playing as well as you’d expect from a 1st year starter. He’s been good. He’s had ups and downs, which is expected. He will get far more blame then he should. But the fact remains the Packers had a SB caliber team in place, and chose to go with a guy who’s never started in the NFL at the most important position on the field. There was simply no good reason to do that, and it will probably cost a few people their job.

The Defense seems to be the problem, Rogers and company seem to be doing their jobs. You have to give Rogers credit for playing the way he did today with his shoulder issue.

Ted and McCarthy has a plane ready to go to Brett's home to come and talk to him about coming back. Brett called and said he had made the choice and wasn't coming back. He was given a chance to comeback and decided a second time that he did not want to be part of the Packers.

That is a myth. From an article on ESPN website

Favre shot down reports that Thompson and McCarthy had chartered a flight to Mississippi to talk to the quarterback in late March about finalizing his comeback, only to have Favre back out at the last minute. Favre said McCarthy told him they were heading to Orlando, Fla., for the owners' meetings and wanted to stop by to speak with him.

"The next day I told him, 'Mike, don't worry about coming down or dropping by. I still can't commit,'" he said. "They made it sound like they had chartered a plane just to see me and I had made a call and said, 'I'm coming back,' which is not true."

I think statistically Favre's numbers wouldn't be much different than Rogers but Favre just seems to impose his will on a team more. Thus their record would be slightly better. I don't think QB is a problem for the Packers though.

Who knows is the real answer.Would he have won the first 2? I don't know.Would he have thrown that same INT today? I don't know.Nobody can really say what their record would be.Hell, he may have even been able to beat Dallas....but we just don't know.
You seem rather defensive today.
Defensive?I answered the question...truthfully.Rather than pure speculation that Favre would have them at 4-1.

How do you know he would not have had to leave that game last week?Did he never leave a game? Oh wait...Dallas last year, NE the year before...Giants game a few years ago...and on and on.He always came back and played...but he missed time during games too.And Favre never missed a WR? Really? Are you people serious? The guy is the all time leader in INTs and some of you act like he never made any mistakes. And yes, Favre did quit on the Packers...they wanted a decision, and he could not give it to them so he retired...and several times was wanting to come back but would not commit....why is that so hard for some of you to understand?

Lots of people are handing out second place prizes for Rodgers for coming out and throwing 300 yards and multiple TD's with an injured shoulder when the rightful owner of that badge is modern medical science for providing the pain medication and whatever harness he used to keep things working.

Gooooooooo Sports Medicine! Rah Rah Rah!

He is factually correct. He called the team several times and was welcomed back several times if he wanted to...in the end, each time, he said no, he was not ready to commit to all that it took to play QB.

Agreed...there were plenty of games they won in large part because of, if not almost solely because of his play.

If you're being honest, the reason Green Bay is losing games is their defense isn't playing well. Atlanta, an offense most would consider average at best went up and down the field in GB.Rodgers had over 300 yards and 3 TD with an injured throwing shoulder. If everyone on GB shows up and plays like he did, they win going away.
Overall might be average at best...but they do have the best run game (numbers wise) in the NFL.Some of that built on the numbers against Detroit though.

What what the Packers record be with Favre right now?
4-1They beat Tampa last week and beat the Falcons today.
There is a lot more to this team loosing than who is at QB.

They are also playing a tougher schedule than last year when they won 13 games, if you thought they would repeat 13 wins you may have drank to much green and gold kool aid.

Brett quit on this team and franchise more than once since he last put on a Packer uniform.
The Packers quit on him.Maybe this is what Packer fans don't understand.....Favre helped the team by helping make up for aspects of the team that were not strong.
He certainly would not be making the throwns on the run like Rodgers has been doing this year.

As a huge Packer fan I understan that Favre was not and never was the reason the team won games. There has always been some type of good players around him when the team was putting up big win totals through out his career.
Actually you may want to check the facts on that. He wasn't given a chance to come back and when he wanted to come back the Packers showed him the door.

You are only worrying about what Favre said. But again, you are proving the point, that he said he was ready to come by...but he again said he still could not commit.

Oh...and I am searching for the article...but I heard at least one guy on the radio saying he saw the documentation of the jet and its itinerary for what was planned...they had the logs of it and saw that TT and McC were planning to go right there after the owners meetings.

You do come off as defensive in your replies...

Lots of people are handing out second place prizes for Rodgers for coming out and throwing 300 yards and multiple TD's with an injured shoulder when the rightful owner of that badge is modern medical science for providing the pain medication and whatever harness he used to keep things working.Gooooooooo Sports Medicine! Rah Rah Rah!
You don't think he was in any pain?Should we say the same thing about Favre's streak or why McNair was called a warrior.Nothing to do with them I guess...just modern medicine.

No I totally agree, a lot of Favre's magic was vicodin & liquor for a long while. I don't know how much pain Rodgers was in, probably depends on how strong the shot was, maybe?

There was a question about what the team's record would be.I answered it. Sure, I was a bit defensive...but some of these claims that automatically Brett would have the team 4-1 or even 3-2 is laughable.

Wow. With all due respect, that's a ridiculous statement to make. Favre wasn't the only reason the team had success but to say he never was a reason why the team won a single game during his tenure as a starter? Honestly, that's beyond ridiculous.
Agreed...there were plenty of games they won in large part because of, if not almost solely because of his play.
The guy was a three-time MVP, finished second in the MVP voting last year and led the team to two Super Bowls, winning one. It's safe to say he won a game or two during his time with the Packers.

Actually...most of the time he was off Vicodin and Liquor. He was off the Vic for his 2nd MVP and Super Bowl Victory. Quite early in his career.

The above basically says that the Packers wanted to stop by and speak to Favre (I doubt it was for tea and crackers, they were going to talk about whether Favre wanted to play again) and Favre told them no.
