Hurricane Irma Roll Call (1 Viewer)

Not cool of course, but completely different than posing as a helper and then holding someone up at gunpoint.
If someone came here to rob us for cash I would just laugh and laugh and invite them in to share our ramen noodles and recycled Gatorade bottles filled with water.

The afternoon here in Jax has been largely uneventful. Power has stayed on. Biggest concern now is they predicted 8 - 10 inches of rain. We have had over 6 inches of rain today (according to this Wunderground station) and the main bands haven't hit yet.

Checking in from near Tallahassee again.  Let's hope Irma keeps downgrading. Die ##### die!!
I named my fantasy football team "IrmaSuckMy****" for this week. I think my hex is working. She seems to be enjoying the submissive role.

Then tell the robber that your next door neighbor keeps his money buried under the house.

A number of people have said they're staying in the path of this thing.  Thought I'd put up a thread where you folks can check in and let us all know how it's going easily, since we have several days of this coming up and we will want to know that you're alive and well.  I'll update as it goes if people will say who they are.  So far I know for sure the following are staying:

I will gladly feel silly if this thread is unnecessary.
Newest full update has been done. Removed the Carolinas (congrats to you folks) and Capella who evacuated there.

We have heard from everyone listed in the last 24 hours (most in the last 6) except for @Finatic and @Jedi Knight

Hopefully all is well with everyone. Miami, Boca, etc should start winding down in the next couple of hours, as the panhandle gets dicey.  Stay safe.

I hope your house offers far more protection than Houston's O-line did today...

Lakeland getting steady wind and rain, and decent gusts now.

The power is still on and DirecTV hasn't gone out yet.

Just lost power here in Boca Raton about 60 minutes ago.

Reports out of West Boca are saying that a group of people are posing as utility personnel checking on water/electricity. They're going door to door and are armed. They've robbed people in Boca Springs (441 just South of Palmetto).

Marshall law ...shoot them on sight.
Sounds like the standard disaster-related rumors. Hopefully no one shoots some legitimate utility workers.

Atlanta area is shutting down - schools all closed.  Just expecting a lot of rain.

I'm supposed to fly in there early Tuesday morning for work but been wondering if my flight gets canceled.
Wind is supposed to tick up to around 40mph - I know it's not much compared to what everyone else is seeing, but I'd hate to be on a plane trying to land in it. If it's a late Tuesday flight, you might be good.

Made it to Charlotte on Friday.  It took over 14 hours to drive what should have been an 8 hour trip.  However, I get to watch while everything unfolds in Florida.  Good luck to all.  I hope it's not as bad as the news makes it out to be.

Just realized today that driving back to Tampa after all of this is going to be a living hell.

Not just getting through Tampa -- I mean the ungodly amount of cars that will be out there.

Won't be so bad from where you are.  You'll get a jump on all the traffic coming from Atlanta and Charlotte.

You might want to wait until you have power before you head back.  And for the traffic to clear.  Gas might be hard to get for a while.  Joy.

I stayed and luckily have no extensive house damage or flooding, and I have had power the whole time which I still can't believe. My prayers and well wishes to everyone else and their loved ones.

Fin

Well RIP one section of fence.  Other than that not much to complain about other than the power still being out.  Just put the generator on to get the refrigerator back "up" to tempreture.

best of luck to everyone in Tampa.

Just talked to my dad. We somehow never lost power.

Sadly, that means my dad isn't going anywhere either.

My dad hasn't done a sweep of the property yet because he hasn't had his morning cheerios and vodka, but he said from inside the house everything looks fine. Amazing.

Lost power about 11 last night and the wind was much stronger than expected. I'll be interested to see what strength it actually was.  I would guess 100+.  Stronger than Matthew. House seems ok but I can see dock is wrecked.

Back side winds are still very strong in Orlando. No power. Fences down on 2 sides, lost the screens on my porch. All humans and pets are good.

Well, weather in Atlanta has been gorgeous the last two days. Went to the Vortex and to the Braves game Saturday and to a Steeler bar for the game yesterday and then downtown to swill liters at a beer garden.

Now, it's getting nasty out. I'd live to drive home but no real way to get out of here without driving into the teeth of this. Looks like I'm going to have to wait until tomorrow morning to head back, going to take some planning to hopefully avoid another 14 hour drive.

No idea what damage I'm looking at when I get home. Looks like my area had damn near 24 hours of sustained winds in the 40-80 mph range, so I fear for my roof/pool screen. Lost power around 6 PM yesterday and it's still out.

Best of luck getting home and hopefully the damage to your home is minimal.

Are they anticipating the storm will have died down by tomorrow morning in Atlanta? I have an early flight down there in the morning that hasn't been cancelled yet but I'm skeptical I will get down there.

Yes, wind/rain is starting to pick up now, apparently it's going to start getting really bad around noon with peak winds around 6 PM. By midnight, it's supposed to start tapering off and be negligible by tomorrow AM. Airport is definitely being affected and will be all day, so I suspect your flight will be heavily delayed at the very least, they're going to have traffic backed up for sure.

Never lost power in my in-laws house, but some pool screens ripped. Still windy, but probably headed home today or early tomorrow.

We lost power around 5am. Neighbors tree is hugging my shed. Kids are excited they get to eat their candy. The weather guy said we should get the worst of it from 4am to noon. Then it will taper off and be done by 4pm. So you we wait and eat candy. Be safe everyone!

Man. Never lost power somehow. Leaves and branches everywhere. Sat up and watched transformers blow most of the night. I'll have the roof checked and the pool screens replaced but that looks to be it.

Yeah, it was like 4th of July around here at times. Flashes of blue light from transformers lighting up the sky.

Tropical Storm force winds in Charleston.  Folly Beach recorded a gust of 72 a couple of hours ago.

Raining pretty hard and wind is steady and gusting.  Trees moving pretty good and stuff hitting the roof and sides of the house. We are under a tornado watch and will be for a while.

The biggest concern for the area is the heavy rain + high tide + onshore push from the storm.  Flooding could get high in some areas.  I have a tidal creek beside my house.  So far, so good though.

Stay safe GB. The Carolinas aren't out of the woods just yet.

Updated:

I've put people we've heard from since the bulk of the storm passed (in south Florida) in green, and the one person we don't expect to hear from for some time (rustycolts) in red (he has no power and no cell phone.)  As this thing leaves Florida and the storm ends in various areas, I'll put everyone we hear from after it passes in green, and those we haven't heard from in over 24 hours after the storm passes their areas in red.  I'm sure there are some time mistakes, but I'll do my best to correct any in future versions.

Mother, sister and sister's family (four houses in total) are all in Naples.  Seems they made it out unscathed (niece's house is on wrong side of Rt 41 and she went to her brother's house so not sure status of her house).  Sister's neighbor's house has a lot of damage as a big oak fell on it.  Luckily the family wasn't in the house.

On a side note, on Thursday, when I told my wife that my mother (in an Alzheimer's assisted community) was being evacuated, she asked me, "Why is your mom being evacuated?  The storm?"

eta. Brother in Tampa is also fine.

eta. Best friend is right on the water in Tampa and is also fine.  He mentioned something about a sailing ship being wrecked there.

Cocoa was pretty brutal, but probably more because it was for such an extended period of time.

My family is back home safe in Lakeland.  It looks like we got it worse here than in Cocoa with the amount of huge trees that are down.

Good to hear.  My parents evacuated Englewood on Tuesday... hope this means their house is in good shape!

We had a huge wind gust hit and throw limbs into the side of the house.  Right at that moment my wife's phone sounded a tornado warning.  Moved my MIL into the hallway and we sat there for about 10 minutes until the warning expired.  The creek two blocks away has pushed the feeder beside me over its banks.  The guy behind me, who had his house flood during Matthew, has the water less than a foot from doing it again.
