I hate this new draft format (1 Viewer)

One round and done for the day. I'm left wanting much more. I'm sure I'll feel the same way after rounds 2 and 3.

I already miss the old format.

It's new, and like anything new it takes a little while for it to feel comfortable. I like it. Plus, I'm interested to see what kinds of deals get done during the overnight break as there are plenty of "first round talent" players left. Having this break in the action could lead to even more action tomorrow night. Very exciting to me.

Yeah I was ready to jump into the 2nd round. Plus I was disappointed I couldn't get completely wasted since I have to work tomorrow.

Oh well, on the bright side we can get a cool day discussing a now better picture of the second round on the forums tomorrow. Maybe people will even come out with 2nd round mocks.

I was also dissapointed. But I also like the idea of having the night to reconstruct draft boards, make moves etc...

I think im most dissapointed that as others have said it happened on a Thursday, I cant get shwasted. No Draft party.

We will see how the rest shakes out. I dont have anyone exciting to watch for like I had last year in Bernard Scott to keep me interested in the final rounds. gonna make for an interesting Saturday at my house. Maybe I'll mow the lawn.

After watching Ted Thompson's presser tonight, he's not real fond of it.

Bingo, someone is gonna get a woody tonight for one of the players on the board. They could not have had a better draft to do this with because it is so deep even if there are not a ton of big name stars. Tomorrow almost feels like the 1st round all over again.I wonder what the ratings will be for Saturday when mostly the nerds like me and all of you tune in.

I like it though, its fun, I can watch it in primetime Thursday, Friday, still have Sunday to have "quality time" with the Mrs.

From a fan standpoint I like it for the most part. I definitely felt myself wanting more as the picks were winding down though, but I'm anxious to see what the time off will do, and hopefully make for some good action tomorrow night.

Either way... 1, 2-3, 4-7... 1-2, 3-7... 1-3, 4-7... I'll be happy since it's the NFL Draft.

I think they should do a slow draft. Each pick gets ~10 hours.

Every day would be fun, from March 1 through May 31.

Initially I didn't like the new draft format. But after going thru Round 1 I think this is genius. I like the fact that we can sit down and analyze Round 1 and get to know the Round 2 players that were overlooked in all the hype over Round 1 players.

This guy's got it right. Round 2 tonight feels like Round 1 all over again.

So far it looks like Goodell's best decision of an otherwise horrid reign as NFL commish.

Two days. I'm sorry. Do it Friday night (rounds 1-2) and SaturDAY (rounds 3+). Simple, still get some primetime.

if the goal is Prime Time.. then goal achieved.. if the goal is maximizing audience engagement, I think "we", the generic fan, would prefer 3 rounds on Saturday.. then Sunday can do whatever...

a long Saturday is nice, it easier to manipulate NON NFL social obligations, some people can host an all day party.. others can pop in and out as the schedule demands... I can't justify it for the later rounds tho...

I am not inclined to buy beer and grill for the day for rounds 3 - 7...

yeah you may be right. that's the dark side of the new format -- prioritizing revenue over community spirit.that may not be so good over the long term.

Yeah, I kind of felt like I could watch another round after tonight, but it was 4am here in Ireland, so I really needed to sleep.

One thing I did n ot care for was them showing guys on the phones with the team before the pick was announced. We knew the Tebow pick minutes before it was official. No shock and awe.

Selfishly, I love it, easy to make sure the schedule is clear on a Thursday night to watch with your buddies distraction free. Friday? Perfect opportunity to get together with another group of buddies, play some cards, with the draft as a backdrop. Then the whole weekend you can make the family happy by spending the entire weekend with them after not seeing them since Thursday morning, checking the cell occasionally for updates.

I think that's a hell of a lot better than either canceling all plans for that weekend or not cancel plans but spend the entire weekend staring at my cell phone. That's just my schedule though...

This idea has merit. Something to talk about for three months, plenty of time for teams to maneuver around. The new format is better than the old, however. Far less of a grind and another night of action to look forward to.Neither is as good as converting to an auction, though. GMs and owners head to head with a bidding button in their hands = awesomeness.

Have to admit I liked the new format. Lots of excitement in prime time... Left wanting more...

Tonight will be like watching round 1 over again.

Besides, I don't need an excuse not to have the guys over for grilling and drinks three days in a row... To me, it's a party and everyone comes back with more speculation as round 2 and 3 since we have had time to think things over!

With my Rams having the 33 I like this as I hope they can get extra picks for it. But after this year I would like to see 1-2 on Friday night (for drinking purposes), 3-4 on Sat night and the rest on Sunday. Of course if the Rams are holding the 33 again next year I want the break after the 1st round. And that's entirely possible with this squad...

I thought having first round in primetime was by far the smartest thing Goodell has done. I can't remember the last draft I really got watch distraction free. For a married guy with children, there's not chance in hell to spend a spring saturday planted on my couch watching the draft. This is the only way it works for me.

For us west coasters who have a job (I know, rare in today's economy) it sucks because the draft started 4:30 our time out here. Second round starts at 3 pm our time. So if they are going for that "Prime Time" and truly making this a TV event, apparently those who have jobs and are making money to buy their merchandise or watch their corporate commercials don't matter. But because the NFL is in New York and lives in their own little bubble who cares about us west coast people?

Took way to long and hated it, there was a commercial after every pick and even when a team entered their pick they still went to commercial and held the thing up. I know its to make money but last night was tooo dragged. I don't think their going to get the #s they want for the rest of it; Friday night is a bad TV night and even I can't get to pumped up for it on Saturday.

Reverse this rant for the Monday Nite games and you have a point.

 I thought it was the fastest 1st round ever. Agree, I think they'll have low #s Friday and Saturday. Not sure they will be much lower than what they saw on Sunday in the previous format though.

LOVE IT....

1st round flew by for me - there were multiple places to avoid commericals including the Live FBG Bloom link.....

Now we have all day to digest it, Go out and get some more beer and :goodposting: do it again tonight...

All while teams get to wheel and deal and we all get to grade the draft so far and discuss the next phase....

Beautiful.

It took 3 hours for 32 picks. That's way too long?

well, I guess its because I wake up at 5:30 am and usually done by 9:30

I thought the complete opposite. The draft went way too fast. If they're only going to do round 1 in primetime then they need to go back to 15 minutes per pick instead of 10.

Also loved how at the beginning of the draft Goodell mentioned how the draft was in "primetime" a few times and every time he did so the cheers immediately changed to a chorus of boos.

It probably has to do with the fact that the rest of us also have jobs we need to report to on Friday, so we don't want to have to stay up until midnight or later to see the end of the first round.

It blew by way too fast for me. 4:30 Pacific sucked but there were two specific things that I disliked in particular:

1. Prior to the pick being called out at the podium we knew the pick 80% of the time because they showed the player on the phone. Obviously this happens every year but this year seemed waaaay worse than years past and I think they should cut it out all together. Show the panel and let the speculate or whatever and then show the players' reaction after their name is called out... not before while they're cheering and talking to the team that is about to pick them.

2. We've already dropped down to 10 minutes a pick which has been great. In previous years when a pick got traded they would reset the clock and now the new team with that pick had a full 10 minutes to make their selection. Last night, however, Goodell would announce the trade and the selection instantly. I get it. Goodell wants this thing to move fast for the casual fan but it really took away from the excitement of speculating who the team is targeting.

The problem with this is that the panel will know who the pick is, since they've seen the guy talking on the phone smiling and laughing. So now either the panel tells us who the pick is -- in which case we might as well see everything in real time like we did last night -- or we do this stupid kabuki thing where the panel pretends not to know any more than we do except that by magic their "guesses" just happen to be right 100% of the time. I'd rather just dispense with the faux-ignorance and have ESPN/NFLN show us what they see.

You obviously missed Steve Young last night. Dude would shout out some wild prediction right before the selection seemingly every other pick, despite the rest of the crew knowing who was actually selected.

 I like it and it keeps us talking even more about the draft for 3 days. Goodell made a smart move this time.

this I agree with, but the alternatives are to either fake ignorance like IK stated, disallow phone calls or not invite the players to the draft and keep videos out of their homes/parties. Nothing good about any of those.
