I like the way Houston's building their team (1 Viewer)

Houston's taken a lot of flak, but I like who they've added in recent years:

Williams

Ryans

Robinson

Okoye

Shaub

They've got Andre Johnson on offense. They obviously still have needs, but this is the makings of a very sound defense, and if they're right about Shaub they should continue to improve on offense under Kubiak. I like it.

Agreed. Too bad the two OLineman they took at the top of Rd 3 last year haven't really worked out.Okoye could be sick. Just imagine how big/strong/fast he'll be when he's fully grown.

Rookie linemen in Rd. 3 need some time. Otherwise they would be 1st rounders. They will be fine.

Umm, Winston played well and Spencer will be the starter again if he can recover. Those 2 linemen are very solid picks. And yes, they did get rid of the problem in Capers and Casserly. A DE probably would be better so they could move Weaver inside, but they're certainly increasing their overall talent.

Yeah, just what we need--another project defensive lineman. Babin, Travis Johnson, Mario, and now Okoye. Not to mention big money to Anthony Weaver and cap hits for Seth Payne, Gary Walker, and Robaire Smith. :X We are to defensive linemen what Detroit is to WRs. At least Detroit got Roy and now Calvin--our success rate is substantially worse.

Our franchise sucks.....

Agree again. They are building a solid base.

:lmao: Well, at least their fans know football. Look what the Oilers Titans are missing by having left Houston! :X

Really?"I'd like to thank everybody that passed on me (puts on Saints hat)."hahaha

Yup, you nailed it. The Texans were one Reggie Bush away from really threatening the Colts, Titans and Jags for the division title. Tomorrow, the world!

Is Travis Johnson a bust? Haven't heard anything about him in a while.
I think you answered your own question. Dude is rarely healthy and does just about as much when he's actually on the field. The cap hit for cutting him is huge, so he'll probably waste some space for another year or so....

Kubiak is impressing me with his focus on improving the cornerstones as opposed for going for the quick fix. Bush obviously was the BPA and they probably should have traded out but they are getting talent at key positions. Look where teams that have constantly focused on skill positions (ex, Det) have ended up. Their fans may not get it but I like what they are doing. To Texan fans, I'd say just be patient. I think this team will get good and be good for a long time but it's probably still a couple of years away.

i totally agree with redman on this. i was just thinking they're building a very strong, young D

i'm not laughin here

Texans fan here and I love the Okoye pick. Would have prefered the to trade down and take CB Houston and try to get a 2nd but Okoye is just as good and if they can find a safety or WR in the 3rd and you'd have to say that this will be 2 back to back good drafts.

And those other houston fan that think the texans are stupid dont really have real football knowledge and probably were the same ones saying Yao sucked too.

They look to be doing okay right now.

In all seriousness, Denver South is my second favorite team (behind Denver North, of course). I love the coach (obviously), I love the talent, and I love the schemes. Just a great team to root for, and a better team to watch. I don't think they're quite there yet, but it's pretty apparent that they're well on their way.

Only morons would laugh. They got rid of the problem and are assembling a solid team.
Mike Sherman is still on the staff
I'm a huge fan of demoted coaches. Failed head coaches make some of the best coordinators in the league. Why is that? Because they were some of the best coordinators in the league before they got promoted to HC- that's why they got promoted in the first place. Failed coordinators make phenomenal position coaches for the same reason. Remember how TERRIBLE Bob Slowik was in Green Bay? Well, since he became Denver's secondary coach, look at what's happened- Denver drafts two rookie CBs in the middle rounds who both wind up blowing away all expectations, Champ Bailey has arguably the best two-season stretch in NFL history, and now Denver's secondary is giving up less than 1 net passing yard per minute while ranking 3rd in the NFL in INTs.Besides, Mike Sherman has a 59.4% career winning percentage, with one losing season and 4 playoff appearances in 6 years. Calling him a failure is a pretty big stretch, here. He has a better career winning% and a better playoff appearance rate than Bill Belichick.

maybe i'm down on him because he decimated the roster, poisoned the locker room and set the Packers back 5 years more or less by himself. if i were a Houston fan i'd be terrified of his having Kubiak's ear. some of the personnel he brought with him from GB was/is just awful. Green looks good so far (apparently, i haven't seen any highlights). other than that.. eesh.

just be hopeful that he doesn't get much say in personnel and your team should be good.

Shermie coached the TE's in GB for 2 years, then went to Seattle for a year to be O-Coordinator before being tapped to be HC (and eventually GM) in Green Bay. not exactly a storied history before getting the HC job.

he took a talented, veteran team, and slowly lost the locker room and destroyed the team's roster. he's meticulous, hard working and probably a great assistant.... beyond that i wouldn't want him anywhere near decision-making for my team.

Add Ahman Green. They've settled the backfield with Schaub and Green. A necessary must to be competitive.

Daniels has to be on this list as well. And going out on a limb, but I think at the end of the year we're going to look back and add Von Hutchins to the list. Not that I was wishing for injuries to the other safeties, but I love that Hutchins looks like he may get a chance to show what he can do now. All the guy seemed to do in the preseason games and at the training camps I went to was make plays. Maybe he has weaknesses other than his size that I'm not aware of. But he hits harder than guys larger than him and he has a nose for the ball. Add that he used to be a corner and so should have better coverage skills than a lot of safeties, and I really think he could end up being a solid contributor in the future. Which if we could strengthen the safety position through Hutchins and be able to get a #2 CB next year and then middle round picks on some OL, this team could finally have most of the holes filled.

The building blocks to a franchise:

QB, WR, LT, DE, CB

QB - Schaub - looks like he's going to be real solid; a winning QB

WR - Andre - What a freak

LT - ? - ummm pass

DE - Mario Williams - gotta like that he's showing some productivity... D Lineman can have a learning curve like WR's... they get better with age

CB - Dunta Robinson - shutdown corner, after the adjustment of moving Robinson onto Steve Smith full time(The Panthers strategy was to keep him on the other corner) Smith slowed down. With the exception of a late, meaningless 70 yard TD catch which was a 20 yard play but the Texans had 4 guys hit Smith at the same time and all let up. Result? Nobody tackled him and he spun out of the gang tackle and sprinted the length of the field for the TD. ---- Robinson is a GOOD CB.

Come again.....One thing you can bank on is the average homer is really clueless. 90% of Texans fans always blamed everyone but the disease that was shipped off to Carolina to infect that Franchise. look for it to rear it's ugly head later this season to the dismay of Steve Smith.

If he is able to return from the injury, Spencer was looking like a good left tackle. It also was an injury that could be career threatening though, so we'll have to see how he's doing when the PUP runs out.
