I love Jon Gruden (1 Viewer)

He may be blowing smoke, but it's entertaining smoke.

On Calvin Johnson: "People talk about the guys that don't make it," he said. "You hear that 44 percent of those guys don't make it, but I believe you've got to live in your hopes, not in your fears. The draft is no perfect science. … If [Johnson] doesn't make it, there's lots of guys who are going to be wrong."

On Peterson: Might be the best running back I've ever seen coming out of college. Peterson's a punishing guy," Gruden said. "He doesn't try to go out of bounds - he tries to hurt you bad. He's fast and he's mean as hell.

On Quinn: He's the hardest-working guy maybe in this draft. He does sit-ups, I think, at halftime.

On Garcia: "This guy's a madman. He's like Mad Max in the huddle. I think our offensive players are in for some culture shock when they get a feel for Garcia.

Sounds like he might be pimping out the 1.4 rookie pick. But if Calvin's there I can't see him trading the pick.

Gruden did offer effusive praise for Caddy all the way up to the draft, so he has put his money where his mouth is before. But this time, he's obviously praising everyone since the order is a bit less clear.

I will never forget how he described Mike Williams as "Shaq like" :football: That same year, i don't recall hearing anything about Braylon Edwards, which was surprising. IMO, they wanted him and weren't saying anything. How can they say so much about, CJ, and Mike Williams, but not 1 peep about Braylon? :thanks:

Gruden is a smart guy and knows his way through the media circus. He's also a dedicated workaholic and great gameplanner. However, his decisions as the defacto GM have really hurt the Bucs overall talent level the last few seasons...especially his QB's and offensive line.

I love John Gruden too. And he loves every player in the NFL. He talks up every player he talks about, all the available FAs, etc. Loves Simms, loves Gradkowski, loves Garthia, loves Plummer, loves L McCown. I think he wishes he could roster 200 players. I may be making fun of him a little, but this is a guy I'd love to play for if I were an NFL player.

I love Gruden in the same way I love to watch those old puppet Christmas cartoons. They are weird and annoying and I watch and listen whenever I can. Strange but true...
