I was wrong about keeping dogs outside; UPDATE - we got a Moose. (1 Viewer)

Update time!

So this week we were able to bring home Moose, a cute 3 month old lab-border collie mix. He has adjusted well so far with just a handful of accidents. The whole family (2 kids & 3 adults) have fallen in love with him.

We got him from a local Humane Society which was a wonderful way to go. His first vet appointment is today. Here are some pics:

Only problem is that it has rained every day this week, so he hasn't gotten a ton of ourtdoor time yet.

And a side note, we did not end up getting the original house as the short sale fell through. We are now in a house with a 1.4 acre lot and more woods.

ETA: yes he is living indoors and we are crate training him.
Thank god. Good job JayRod

We just got back from the vet. Moose is all healthy, got him hooked up with heartworm and flea and tick medication.

We got some pointers on the crate training, feeding schedules and housebreaking. We were on the right track already just needed to fine-tune a few things. The kids love him to death and i'm kind of surprised that my wife is really taking to him as well.

Just wanted to drop another thank you to the FFA for all of the education and recommendations. I feel 10 times better about this whole situation I would have otherwise.

Awesome! I actually have a lab-border collie mix too. She just turned 1 year old last week. They're a nice mix of 2 great breeds. She's super smart and athletic, almost to the point where she doesn't even realize it. Stays in our fenced in yard even though she could probably jump clean over it if she wanted. Terrified of garbage trucks and construction vehicles. We thought she'd be a little on the large size too but she's only around 37-38 lbs and hasn't grown in months. All brown with a white patch on her chest, very chocolate lab looking besides the blonde tufts on her head/mane and bushy tail/legs. I'll post a picture on here when I get a chance so you can get an idea of what yours might end up looking like. Her brothers and sisters looked exactly like yours.

Good luck, and just make sure you clean up any messes ASAP. Once they get a tiny sniff of that smell they think it's ok to go there again. Throw the paper towel outside and they'll start to get it.

That dog is beautiful. Can I have it?

Fine. Well, congrats, anyway. I'd like to repeat prior props for your reversal on this.

Damn that dog is cute...congrats. A friend of a friend has a border collie and it may one of the coolest dogs I met. I went over to this guys house about a month ago and this dog comes running up to me with a flimsy rubber disk thing. I grab it from him and launch it....surprised how far I went and the dog takes off after it. The dogs owner say "Oh Oh" now your in for it. This dog brings it back and I chuck it again. This goes on for 20 or so minutes and this dog keeps coming back for more. My arm was getting tired and I needed to stop. The dog just laid down looked at me...waited patiently for me to throw it again. Such a cool dog with a ton of energy.
