I wonder why the Cards don't wanna give Albert Pujols a contract? (1 Viewer)

I have my opinions but I am wondering what the experts think. :lmao:

Why on God's green earth would you write that much less think it???

Of course they want to sign him......would they like to do it for less money for fewer years? Sure....but they will get something done

He is saying today he will veto the trade he thinks is coming this year. They said it on the radio this morning on the update. I thought it was weird at first and then I started to think about it a little more.

Pujols sounds like he is playing hardball with the Cardinals. If that is true, good luck to him at Wrigley or in Anaheim.

From what I read, there are people who suspect he is a lot older than 31. Some think he is 34 (maybe more). That might make a team hesitate to hand out a 10 year/$300M contract.

That's what I was thinking too. Along with the tread on his knee ligaments being almost dried/worn out. It seems like the Cards are thinking the same. It is weird though imo.

No way I'd give him 10 years. I would probably top out at 6, but would really only want to give him 4 with options.

The Cardinals definitely want to sign him. They are in a negotiating period now. We are only hearing the base offers for both sides. I believe the Cardinals will get a deal done (well, I'm about 75% sure they will sign him). If Pujols wants to be the highest paid player in baseball, this probably won't get done. If the Cards won't give him fair market value, it won't gIet done either. It will be best for both sides if they can compromise and settle. If not, Pujols will make more money than God, and the Cards will be scrambling, but will have a lot of cash leftover to do other things to fill needs.

I still think 6 years for $180 million will get it done.

I'm assuming you mean by the total of the contract, because this would make him the highest paid player in the league on a per year basis for the next 6 seasons.

Somewhat irrelevant, but I was looking up the highest paid players of 2010. There sure are some awful contracts in there.
Code:
Rank	Player	Team	Salary1	Alex Rodriguez	New York Yankees	$33,000,0002	C.C. Sabathia	New York Yankees	$24,285,7143	Derek Jeter	New York Yankees	$22,600,0004	Mark Teixeira	New York Yankees	$20,625,0005	Johan Santana	New York Mets	$20,144,7076	Miguel Cabrera	Detroit Tigers	$20,000,0007	Carlos Beltran	New York Mets	$19,401,5698	Ryan Howard	Philadelphia Phillies	$19,000,0009	Carlos Lee	Houston Astros	$19,000,00010	Alfonso Soriano	Chicago Cubs	$19,000,00011	Carlos Zambrano	Chicago Cubs	$18,875,00012	John Lackey	Boston Red Sox	$18,700,00013	Manny Ramirez	Los Angeles Dodgers	$18,695,00614	Torii Hunter	Los Angeles Angels	$18,500,00015	Barry Zito	San Francisco Giants	$18,500,00016	Ichiro Suzuki	Seattle Mariners	$18,000,00017	Magglio Ordonez	Detroit Tigers	$17,825,97618	Todd Helton	Colorado Rockies	$17,775,00019	Aramis Ramirez	Chicago Cubs	$16,750,00020	A.J. A good half of those are just awful. Jeter, Santana, Beltran, Lee, Soriano, Zambrano (ouch Cubs), Lackey, Zito, Magglio, Helton, Burnett, Kuroda

Sure his range is going in the wrong direction at this point, but Pujols is still a pretty good fielder at 1B. I'm not sure why so many are automatically projecting him to DH as soon as next season.

He's a better fielder than either of them.
Honestly, I thought that was a given. But maybe its closer than I thought based on this thread.

If your knee ligaments dry out does it make it harder to bend over? I'm not actually sure but that could be a future issue in the field......if you think for some reason his ligs might dry out. :lmao:
