Ideal amount of bench spots? (1 Viewer)

We used to go with zero (no trading at all) until around 3 or 4 years ago we made the switch to 7 (very little trading and nothing on the wire). Right now we are at 3 bench spots in a standard redraft 12 team league starting QB, 2 RBs, 3 WRs, TE, D, K. This leads to constant frenzied activity on the trade block and the waiver wire. I can see the argument where more spots helps out the managers with more skill which I agree with as those extra 3-4 spots are where the knowledge of sleepers allows you to build depth.

What do you think is the best amount?

We have 22 bench spots in my dynasty league (with no starting PKs, so just QB/RB/WR/TE/Def). I'm also in a keeper league with 13 bench spots, and a redraft league with 6 bench spots. I definitely prefer deeper benches. It strongly encourages trading (because you aren't going to find too many gems on the wire), and it rewards owners who do their homework on the end-of-the-bench guys.

9 starters plus 11 bench for a 20 man roster is the ideal, for me. I hate small leagues with limited rosters. Deeper rosters reward owners that pay attention. I shouldn't have to cut Kevin Walter just to get a bye week defense.

Great question! Main league is 9 start, 7 bench, redraft. Not enough room to "farm" any players, but there's been enough to hold on marginal players. Hoping the bye weeks start to change that, but I'm here to say that the "middle ground" is not the place to be...go short or long to encourage more activity.

9 starters with roster limit of 18. It keeps a nice flow on the waiver wire but I'd be okay with a 20 man roster. With an 18 player roster I only carry 1 kicker and defense until their bye weeks so I can evaluate my RB's and WR's more.

:lmao: My leagues are all almost exactly like yours ... I find the benches too short. I prefer to have a back-up spot for each starting position plus 2 or 3 more "stash" spots.

However, a majority of our owners are psyched about being able to find waiver-wire gems, so they fight bench-lengthening votes every time.
