2008 IDP Spotlight Series

One of Footballguys best assets is our message board community. The IDP Forum here has grown quickly over the past few years and is probably the best place on the internet to discuss, debate and analyze all things related to IDPs. In what we hope to make an annual tradition, the IDP Spotlight series will be a key part of our preseason effort this year. As many of you know from what has been done with offensive players over the years, we consider the Player Spotlight threads the permanent record for analyzing the fantasy prospects of the player in question. This year, we hope to publish IDP Spotlights for approximately 50-60 players, which should account for most of the key IDP starters for this year and possibly years to come.

Each week we will post a list of players to be discussed. Those threads will remain open for the entire preseason, and should be a central point to discussion expectations for the player in question. Importantly, analysis done in the first week (or possibly longer) of posting will be part of the permanent record in two ways.

1) At the end of the week (or longer when necessary), we will tally the projections into a consensus.

2) We will select a number of pull quotes from forum contributors who make a compelling statement or observation. Both the projections and pull quotes will be part of a published article on the main website.

Thread Topic: Gary Brackett, ILB, Indianapolis Colts

Each published article will include:

In order for this thread to provide maximum value, we ask that you follow a few simple guidelines:

Focus commentary on the player in question, and your expectations for said player
Back up your expectations in whatever manner you deem appropriate; avoid posts that simply say "I hate him" or "He's the best"
To be included in the final synopsis and consensus outlook, we request that you provide projections for the playerProjections should include (at a minimum):

For DLs: Solos, Assists, Sacks, PD
For LBs: Solos, Assists, Sacks, INT, PD
For DBs: Solos, Assists, Sacks, INT, PDNow let's get on with the conversation! We look forward to your contributions and let me offer a personal thanks in anticipation of the great debate and analysis.

Hagler is done for the year leaving Session and a slew of rookies to handle the SAM spot. Brackett probably gets a bit of a boost from this. As usual, Brackett stays a safe but solid LB2 with top 20 being his upside.

95 - 25

0 Sacks

6 PDs

2 INT

Brackett has never been exceptional, just rock-solid. Pencil him in for his usual 120 combined tackles with a handful of INTs and FF/FR.

85 tackles

35 assists

2 sacks

2 FF/FR

2 INTs

8 PDs

Mid to upper level LB2.

lots of projections in here without much commentary. What are your thoughts on Brackett? He's finished as the #13 ranked ILB for 3 years in a row, which is basically a LB1 in most leagues yet he doesn't get a ton of recognition. Is he a product of the system or one of the league's better MLBs?

Also, with just 2 years left on his contract, do you think there's a chance that a player like Phillip Wheeler could be groomed to eventually replace him?

If your a LB in Indy, your always replaceable. I don't think Brackett is anything special, so I guess a product of the system would get my vote. He's just a solid player, who is smart with a good motor.I'm not sure how much love Brackett would get in the open market, probably more than Indy is willing to play. Someone will be groomed, I have my doubts it's Wheeler.

This guy is tough to find info on....

I just drafted him as my LB2 ina 16 team league...start up dynasty

Took him ahead of Dizon and Greeway...

I am not an IDP guru..and rely on these boards..and rankings to find good players....

He was the 25th LB taken.....

I don't see why it wouldn't be Wheeler who seems like a very similar prospect to Brackett. Maybe not as physical as you would like a MLB to be but he is very good in coverage which is what Dungy is looking for and I think why they took him.I see Wheeler competing for SLB this year.

Remains to be seen if they re-sign Brackett down the road or not. But I do think Wheeler is a guy who could fill in for him if they don't keep him.

Bracketts value last year came from the interceptions.. I saw a few of these and he made some fantastic plays. A solid LB2.
