2008 IDP Spotlight Series

One of Footballguys best assets is our message board community. The IDP Forum here has grown quickly over the past few years and is probably the best place on the internet to discuss, debate and analyze all things related to IDPs. In what we hope to make an annual tradition, the IDP Spotlight series will be a key part of our preseason effort this year. As many of you know from what has been done with offensive players over the years, we consider the Player Spotlight threads the permanent record for analyzing the fantasy prospects of the player in question. This year, we hope to publish IDP Spotlights for approximately 50-60 players, which should account for most of the key IDP starters for this year and possibly years to come.

Each week we will post a list of players to be discussed. Those threads will remain open for the entire preseason, and should be a central point to discussion expectations for the player in question. Importantly, analysis done in the first week (or possibly longer) of posting will be part of the permanent record in two ways.

1) At the end of the week (or longer when necessary), we will tally the projections into a consensus.

2) We will select a number of pull quotes from forum contributors who make a compelling statement or observation. Both the projections and pull quotes will be part of a published article on the main website.

Thread Topic: Karlos Dansby, OLB, Arizona Cardinals

In order for this thread to provide maximum value, we ask that you follow a few simple guidelines:

Focus commentary on the player in question, and your expectations for said player
Back up your expectations in whatever manner you deem appropriate; avoid posts that simply say "I hate him" or "He's the best"
To be included in the final synopsis and consensus outlook, you MUST provide projections for the playerProjections should include (at a minimum):

For DLs: Solos, Assists, Sacks, PD
For LBs: Solos, Assists, Sacks, INT, PD
For DBs: Solos, Assists, Sacks, INT, PDNow let's get on with the conversation! We look forward to your contributions and let me offer a personal thanks in anticipation of the great debate and analysis.

Dansby set or tied career highs in tackles, FF, and INTs last year despite missing a couple games with a knee injury. The Cardinals responded by slapping the franchise tag on him this offseason. What type of production do you expect from him this year? Can he improve on those numbers or have we already seen his ceiling at this point?

I think Dansby has maxed out his value at last year's ceiling.

He's a great player and a top performer at his position in the NFL, but 3-4 OLB's seems pretty volatile from a FF perspective. His value depends on the big play and I have to think he regresses somewhat.

I can't argue with Dansbys production.

He plays and produces like a ILB, especially when compared to Gerald Hayes.

He looks like a playmaking WLB in the 4-3 to me.

Almost a poor-mans Keith Bulluck. Or how Anthony Simmons used to play a few years ago. (i.. always shading towards the inside)

I don't foresee it changing. Though the Cardinals defense is hard to guage because of all the 4-3/3-4 stuff.

He is 26/27 and has come into his own. He is the best defender they have not named Adrian Wilson, and may over take A-Dub this year.

Tackles 90

Assist 21

Sacks 3

Interception 1

I'll take a swing at this - I feel my lack of depth of watching alot of these players keeps me from posting my thoughts but I'll take a chance on this one. The reason I come to this board is to get the best information from the mods and regular posters

I think that Dansby will again be solid this year as he was last year as long as he stays healthy. My thought is that with the lose of Calvin Pace to the Jets may provide more opportunities for Karlos. I also feel that the health of Adrian Wilson will also provide opportunities for Karlos. Getting back Okeafor and if Bert can stay healthy the Cardinals can go back to more interesting schemes and I feel those schemes will include Karlos. So the opportunity for big plays will still be there.

As for projections - hard for me to come up with but I feel his fantasy points should be higher than last year seeing as he missed two games last year so....

Solo's 88

Assists 25

Forced Fumbles 3

Interceptions 3

Sacks 5

:excited:

Contract year player, who should put up his best numbers yet. Dansby is a playmaker, and playing ILB in their 3-4 seems to be a great fit. Yet to complete a full season, with some kind of minor injury causing him to miss a game or two in each of his 4 seasons.

What has always concerned me with Dansby is his motor and work ethic. He’s a great athlete, has the size (6-4/250), good instincts, good coverage skills and an excellent blitzer, just not sure if he’s hungry enough.

Is he the type who cashes in on a big contract and never again plays up to his potential?

He signed a 1 year franchise tender worth just over 8 million, and eventually will cash in on a huge payday, whether it is a long term deal with Arizona or via free agency in 2009… we’ll see. The Cards have a July 15th deadline to get something done long term. If no deal is reached by July 15, the team can only sign their franchise player to a one-year deal and could not sign a long-term contract then until after the conclusion of the regular season.

PROJECTIONS 82 Solos / 22 Asst / 9.5 sacks / 2 INT’s / 9 PD’s 3-5 FF and a FR or two.
