Read my next post about AP :) I compare him to none other then Larry Johnson.
jbz, I am not calling you out because many others make the same mistake. Go up and read WhoDat's post. There is no AP in Oklahoma. He is affectionately called AD for All Day. Small potatoes, sure, but it bugs me. I spend a lot of time at college FB forums and they all have it right. AD.

OK, I'll bite.  What kind of player is AP? Can anyone describe him as a RB?  How about a highlight reel?

Edit to add: I just found this page with various highlight clips: http://www.adrian-peterson.com/adrian_peterson_video.html

AP's 2004 clips looked to me alot light Joseph Addai's film.  Upright, lots of speed and power, but kind of undeveloped. BUT, his 2005 clips were makedly improved.  He had developed much better moves and the ability to avoid a hit once in a while.  His speed also looked better, and he got most of his yardage right up the gut.

I laughed when I saw the title of this thread, thinking that Bush was way ahead of this kid.  But now I'm really starting to think that Peterson will be the better pro, simply because he is hardwired to be a feature back, and yet he has the versatility to be a pass catcher as well.

I have a low pick in next years draft, so I'm hoping he comes out!
I think he's a good bet to come out. 4 full years of being a workhorse RB will raise some flags about wear and tear on him. Curious, what did you see that made you comment "he has the versatility to be a pass catcher...."? I watch a lot of Big XII football and OU hardly uses him in the passing game. Not saying he isn't capable of it, but I don't think he was feature enough in their passing game to come away saying AP is one way or the other.
Good question. He obviously isn't used as a receiver in the way Bush was at SC. However, in comparing what I've seen of Peterson to guys like Kevin Jones, who has now developed his receiving skills and figures to be a prominant participant in the Lion's passing game, I would say that Peterson has way more receiving upside. He moves and cuts well, has breakaway speed, and has very nice balance, all of which are very helpful in the passing game. If he can work on his hands, which is something I think is do-able, he could be a very nice presense in some NFL team's passing game. On the other hand, compare Peterson to a guy like Rudi Johnson. No way does Peterson fit that mold in terms of being a 1st and 2nd down bruiser. He is far more of a playmaker athletically, so that whatever team he ends up on will want him on the field in passing situations. Does this make any sense?

I agree Marshawn Lynch could end up a top ten draft pick. But Michael Bush fans are probably in for a letdown come draft season. Next year's draft is shallow compared to this years, but I still don't see him going in the first 25 picks. He is a bit overrated due to his size, and I don't think he's in the same league as LenDale White.
When i watched M. Bush this year, I was slightly more impressed with him than White, but i will keep this conversasion in mind when I look @ the Cards this year. Side note: I am actually not a huge back fan as usually quickness and pad level become issues in the pros.

ah...gotcha. I was wondering why everyone who seemed like OU fans were writing AD. Adrian Deterson just didnt seem right :D

Of course, if White didn't have so many issues in the post season, he would have gone sooner, so not sure if comparing things that way matters. Also, part of my opinion is relying on a pretty sharp source and good friend who really dislikes Bush for the NFL. We'll see. There's a long way to go and I reserve the right to change my opinion.

Reggie Bush is the highest rated RB prospect to come out of college in like 2 decades according to some scouting services. Thus, I went with him. AD will be awesome too, but I think Bush is more elusive, has better vision, start/stop ability and amazing acceleration. At times it seemed like Bush was Neo from the Matrix running 100 times faster than everyone else. There's only a handful of people that I've ever gotten that feeling from watching them play. Michael Vick is another one that comes to mind as well. AD has great top line speed no doubt and runs with wreckless abandon, but right now Bush is the better prospect.

EDIT: Of course, a lot depends on what team AD winds up on.

P.S. Marshawn Lynch is sick & wrong. Watch him this year.

:goodposting: Speed and quickness kill in the NFL. Bush trumps Peterson in both categories.

Instincts are also important, but I've seen nothing to suggest that Bush is lacking in that category.

Having been field level for a few of A. Peterson's game, I feel confident in stating the talent gap between Bush and Peterson is not nearly as wide as some are suggesting. NOBODY that size has any business being that fast and strong. I know this much. I would much rather chase and grab Bush in the second half versus putting my pads on Peterson's thighs, which is the difference. They are different players with different body types and, yes, I am fully aware of the rumor that Bush allegedly posted the highest predraft grade for a RB since B. Jackson. Bush for a man his size and skill set is amazing. He is a once in a generation player. I would not argue that point. Peterson is not that back. He is a different body type with a completely different skill set. What is to say, though, that Peterson does not or cannot rate as high with his skill set?

Peterson has not played this season yet. Placing a grade upon him at this point is putting the cart before the horse. Give him the benefit of the doubt and 12 more games. How about two healthy ankles? Let him have those for 12 more games. Then, look back into human intangibles, maturation and statistics.

Considering he is an underclassman, there is not going to be anything formal or forward facing coming out about him in regards to how or what NFL teams feel about him; his abilities or chances of coming out this early in the year. That type of BS starts flying this early on and campus gets closed to guilty parties, scouts.

I figure if OU is in the running for the Big 12 and BCS then more formal yet off record comments come in December or they come after Peterson petitions the league/NCAA for their letter of recommendation regarding his perceived draft status. At that point the cat is out of the bag and you will start getting the contemporary comparisons or historical references, like Peterson is another E. Dickerson; has tangibles in line with E. Campbell or rates at or above M. Allen. Peterson is not going to be gauged and measured against players with a smaller yet highly dynamic body type...like Bush, Sanders or Faulk...when NFL talent evaluators begin to endorse him.

This is the same kid that had one of the longest and largest college recruiting campaigns...ever...in high school history. It is the same kid that Brown lost to his arch rival and damn near got fired over it. It is the same kid that, when healthy and with an experienced line, nearly won a Heisman...as a freshman.

He'll get the same run and gloss that Bush got. Much of that has to do with a school's athletic department and trust OU is going to make sure EVERYONE remembers this kid. If OU rolls Texas and Peterson has anything to do with it, then it will be on for the rest of the year.

PPR and combined yardage league...Bush

All other leagues...Peterson
