If Parcells Can Play Gholston Against J. Long... (1 Viewer)

i admire parcells attempt to turn back the hands of time, & manage to pay the 1.1 less than last year, as high 1st round picks are spiraling out of control...

but could this strategy backfire?

can j. long be in discussions about contract with MIA & STL simultaneously?

is there anything in the rules preventing teams after 1.1 opening contract discussions...

since long is a "free agent" & not anybodys property yet (parcells could take j. long anyways, like SD did with eli manning, but in that case they likely already had trade worked out), it would seem OK...

for instance, if j. long was assured STL would pay him almost as much with full value 1.2 contract, vs. lowball 1.1, & he prefers STL to MIA, that might make him more inclined to not bow down to parcells... if parcells really does want long more, long might have leverage to pressure parcells to raise his offer by claiming he is fine going 1.2 to STL?

it would be interesting to me if by STL entering into the fray of discussions (lets say broad contract parameters), assuming it was permissable within the league rules, through their actions they were able to influence the outcome at the top of the draft, & increase the chance their target falls to the rams...

* i forgot to mention that j. long gets some leverage back if he is drafted 1.1 without a contract...
