If Ryan Matthews goes to SD (1 Viewer)

Value of the 1.03 cratered tonight. Especially since we haven't seen where Best or Dwyer or the other RB's have gone yet
I actually think the 1.03 has increased in value. Spiller is in a good spot, and so is the pair of WRs. If either Best or Dwyer go to a good spot, the 1.03 could go thru the roof
Best in Detroit makes the 1.03 very interesting
Yep. Have the 1.03 in a PPR and was planning on deciding between Spiller and Best. Can't decide if I should take Best as a Bills fan just to hedge my bets or go all in with Spiller. Anyone else ever "hedge their bets" like that with their favorite team?

<------ Thankfully I didn't. I used to, but what are you really hedging? Just your feelings. Grow a pair and draft the guy you think best, regardless of his team. Best in Detroit makes 1.04 worth more than before but the top 3 are still easy IMO.

I think it's funny how draft picks are coveted like gold and then teams have no problem wasting them to move up to get their guy.

How many RBs in the NFL, if you traded them today, would fetch a 1st, 2nd and a 4th round pick? Maybe this guy is the real deal...I don't know but it seems an awful lot to pay for a RB.

The two go hand in hand. Teams covet their draft picks, yes. A big reason for that is that having a bunch of picks gives teams the ability to move up in the draft and get a player that they really want. I don't think these teams look at it as wasting picks. Draft picks are currency.

Sure their currency but that still leaves my question out there. How many RBs in the league would be that expensive in a trade?

How many RBs already in the league have a shot at being a top 5 RB... are available... would have a dirt cheap 5 year contract ... and would be within a Super Bowl contenders reach?
Whether he has a legit shot of being in the top 5 of best RB's in the league is debatable but the point is...he wasn't in San Diego's reach. They gave up the house to go get him.

So, you're basically asking if the Chargers had an opportunity to give up what they did and get Chris Johnson, would they? In a nano-second IMO. Probably quicker, and they would probably give a little more if they had to.

Some of the names on here are just ridiculous.

I'd just caution some about the "ideal" landing spot for Mathews. Yes, he's going to be the starter. But let's not pretend that SD is going to be heaven for any RB. Their O-line was not that good last year and I'm not sure it will be improved. I don't know if it was due to injuries as I don't follow SD that closely but SD was 31st in the league in rushing last year and that doesn't all fall at the feet of LT/Sproles.

Many are concerned with O-line in front of Spiller. I'm not convinced Mathews O-line is much better.

Our line can't run block for ****. People may point to a lack of production in the running game as attributable to LT's decline, but I don't think you can pin all the blame on him. Look at Sproles: he had a 3.7 ypc last year with that same line. The only reason why Mathews could potentially be able to perform better than LT/Sproles is if he'll be able to beast through tacklers in the backfield. LT/Sproles would continually get hit behind the line or right at the line --there were no holes being opened for SD backs last year, and that's because of the shift in emphasis towards pass-blocking. Seeing as how the same 5 guys are likely to be back, I'm not sure how much improvement to expect.Temper your expectations...

Regardless of O-line, defenses won't be stacking the line/blitzing the heck out of SD with Gates/Vjax/Rivers....as they will with Edwards/evans/nelson.

Couple things. Gates/VJax/Rivers were there last year. The RB's struggled. Peyton & Co. are a solid passing group. They struggled running the ball. Arizona has had a solid passing attack the last couple years. They couldn't run the ball. And more importantly, last year, Buffalo was 8th in the NFL in ypc with the crap they had at QB and WR. They've already shown they can run the ball well as recently as last year with Fred Jackson and Lynch. In particular, Fred Jackson showed how well he could do in space and Buffalo did a good job in getting the ball to him in space. Spiller is going to absolutely thrive in that environment.I'm not saying Mathews won't do well. I'm simply stating that I don't think SD's situation is > Buffalo with the exception of opportunity. And that's only short-term.
