if suggs goes to NY is he worth anything...? (1 Viewer)

Aug 7

Tom Rock, of New York Newsday, reports the New York Jets are rumored to have an interest in Cleveland Browns RB Lee Suggs.

Aug 6

There is speculation Suggs could be traded to the Jets, the Akron Beacon Journal reports.

Recommendation: The Jets are in need of a running back with the Curtis Martin (knee) still on the mend after having offseason surgery. The Browns claim to have been trying to accommodate Suggs' wish to be traded since the spring time. We will continue to monitor this situation.

i know this man gets hurt falling off of the bench in cleveland...but does he have any hope of building up a career in NY, or will he just be a bench warmer in a bigger city...?

~thoughts?

I wish they'd go after willie green instead.

I do not think Houston or Blaylock is the long-term answer. Jets are going to have to draft an RB or get active in trading/free agency over the course of the next year.

Whoever they get is going to be a one year fill, IMO... unless they somehow get Thomas Jones.

Either way we look at it, it's going to be a long year for the JETS. With no true running back to keep defenses from putting 8 in the box, Mangold and D'Brick will have a full season of constant pressure to help bring them along. While Suggs is definitely no long term solution, it may be a decent pick-up if he can return to whatever form he once posessed and be an every down back. Big questions there though.... if they don't want to wait till next year to compete, they better start getting busy with the trade options.

I for one would love to see them make a run at Micheal Turner, but unfortunately i don't think even the Chargers are dumb enough to give him up just yet!

He would definitely start over all RBs not named Curtis Martin*

*if he's healthy

Any NYJ :homer:s have any more insight on this? Suggs in NYJ would be money.

Not sure how much substance this one has. Here's the Akron Beacon Journal link

The text in its entirety states:

If Lee Suggs is traded, don't discount the New York Jets as his future home. With Curtis Martin still out after offseason knee surgery, the Jets might need a back.
Reads like speculation to me....

I like Suggs' talent but he never stays healthy long enough to show it. If he somehow put together some games, I think he could get most of the carries in NYJ; very big if.

Suggs has more talent than Blaylock or Houston IMO.. but with that cronic neck injury, as a Jet fan, I'm not giving up a whole lot for him.

:goodposting: Definitely a make or break year for Suggs. Clearly he has the talent, but if he can't stay healthy this season, he'll never get another chance.

Lee Suggs is rumored to be heading to the NYJ......

Chris Brown is rumored to be heading to the NYJ......

Thomas Jones is rumored to be heading to the NYJ......

Barry Sanders is rumored to be heading to the NYJ......

God is rumored to be heading to the NYJ......

Who isn't being rumored as heading to NY these days?

Suggs would never stay healthy behind a learning curve O-line.... he has talent but I can't see the Jets hanging their running game on him for long.... and I'm not sold that the Jets running game will really pay off this year.;.. though as a Jets fan, I hope I am wrong...

Here's my local insight:

The only reports I've read regarding the team actually talking about getting someone were connected to Chris Brown and Thomas Jones. All the other guys have been speculated on by the media.

From what I understand, Jones isn't available, and at least one beat reporter here said that there are some in the organization who are not sold on Brown.

I wouldn't take any of it seriously - I'll bet that they've put out soft feelers on lots of situations, but will wait until after at least the first preseaon game before dealing a pick.

Nobody talks about the Green Bay Packers backs. I guarantee one of them gets traded and traded soon.

All 3 have been signed to 1 year deals this offseason. All 3 have experience starting.

Ahman Green, Najah Davenport, and Samkon Gado.

One of them will be traded and it would not surprise me if it were Ahman Green for Dewayne Robertson or possibly a late 1st day pick.

Dewayne Robertson won't be traded - he's the only option to start at NT, especially with the Pouha hurt. And besides, I don't think you trade a young, developing DT picked in the top 5 for a 29-year has-been at RB who is coming off a Quad tear and hasn't been able to practice with his team. Actually, you don't trade anything for that. The only tradeable back is Gado, and he won't get traded precisely b/c the other two guys are coming off serious injury.

It makes no sense for Green Bay to trade one of their RB's.

You are a Saints fan, yes? If Reggie turns out to be all that, and Duece gets back to 100%, Duece might find himself on the trading block next year. I can sense some rich trade possibilities for the Saints, especially with the Jets.So why not Duece to the Jets? ... next year. I'll bet the Jets, along with several other teams, have thoughts of Deuce on their back-burner.So, add Duece to your list. Then again, in a world of creeping RBBC, Deuce probably stays in NO.[/random]

Actually with his name, NoFBinLA, i think he is in Los Angeles like me, watching teams in other cities, like my JETS.....who need a starting RB PERIOD!!!! I love C-Mart, but sadly it seems he has reached his end...I hope the damn Raiders enjoy the trade rape they were able to pull of......Jordan - Jolley. He seems to have Kyle Brady disease.....when they are in NY, their hands turn to bricks!

:bag: In some places, LA = Louisiana.

FYI - LA = Los Angeles.

And while I do like the Saints, the Jets are my team. And yes we need an RB in a BIG way.

Like I said, if Suggs could stay healthy.....

is najeh medically cleared?Robertson has a degenerative knee condition and I doubt he could fetch as much as some would hope

rumor has it, I am going to the Jets as well...

lol...

Green Bay will keep their ponies in the stable...

if suggs goes to NY is he worth anything...?
Worth about the same if he goes to Cleveland. There used to be an opening at starting RB there as well. Suggs did nothing to take it. Heck, the Browns traded for a RB instead of relying on Suggs' potential.Good college baller, not so good at the pro level.

That's about as wrong as you can get.Suggs won the job and then got hurt.
Yeah, you're right. The Browns didn't trade for a RB. Suggs had 25 career games with 4 starts. Lost job to a performing Droughns, not just his sprained ankle. When healthy, Suggs took the job back, right?Suggs has been an excellent producer at the professional level for all 3 years in the league. My bad. Didn't know what I was thinking to get it so wrong. My apologies.

Opinions are what they are, just opinions...when healthy, Suggs is a top tier RB...he can be one, if he can stay healthy. That's been the problem for him. He was drafted low because of the injury he had in his senior year. The year before last, he was held because of the so-called narrow spinal chord...whatever...BUtch Davis screwed him because he wants his pot boy William Green to be the man. Suggs has been the victim of Butch Davis and Cleveland OL, as much as him getting nicked here and there. Droughns, who was originally a fullback at Denver, fits the Cleveland OL because he can block for himself. I want Suggs to get out of Cleveland and go to Denver or Houston where his one-cut back talent will propel him to greatness. These are my opinions.

Different type back but generally he reminds me of Wheatley in NY. You can see the talent and all but he just doesn't get it done. Fan reaction to them seems similar too.
