If the ump is not in the way, does Greene take it to the house? (1 Viewer)

There were two defenders behind the ump, but Greene had up a head of steam. Then again, a Shonn Greene at full speed doesn't have the momentum of an Earl Campbell at full speed.

I thought this at first but watch the play again...there were actually 3 defenders right in front of him. If anything, I think him running into the ref making him veer to the left while the defenders were kinda left standing there as to not smash the ref, enabled him to gain about 10 extra yards or so.

Agreed. I think it was about an 8-yard run if the ump didn't shield the defenders. The difference (at least as Pnishthm and I perceive it) was enough to swing a game in one of my leagues.

It changed the run for sure, but I really don't think it made much differance to the yardage. Greene wasn't about to break the tackles of both those defenders AND outrun the third that was coming. At best he would have fallen forward for about the same yardage he got on the run anyway.

It looked neat and gives us something to argue about I guess, but it didn't change much.
