If you are drafting a TE late.... (1 Viewer)

Would you be comfortable with Greg Olsen as your TE1 to start?

I can't imagine he could put up numbers any worse than any other guy who will be around in the 13th or 14th like a Alex Smith, Owen Daniels, Scaife, etc.

It seems like anyone available at that point in the draft isn't going to have a very high floor...but Olsen may have the highest ceiling.

Nope. I like Tony Scheffler better(a lot better actually). He averaged almost 16 yards a catch last season and hooked up with Cutler for 4 tds and a good amount of yardage.

Greg Olsen is a rookie tight end who's starting quarterback isn't really all that good.

Daniels > Scheffler > Owens.

Rookie TEs have one of the steepest learning curves in the league. It's very rare to get a contributor as a rookie.

D Clark had 45 receptions and 6 TDs and started all 16 games last year in Chicago, why would Olsen jump past him as TE1?

No.

Some decent late round TEs:

Chris Baker - Shown flashes in the past. Could be a decent option.

Marcedes Lewis - Former first round pick is finally healthy. Will start for the Jags and probably have a top 20 season or better.

Alex Smith - He'll probably do about what he's done for the past two years.

DEN has commented that they think GRAHAM could get 50 or 55 catches this year. They are paying him $6 million a year. I would not expect much out of Scheffler no matter how well he did in a handful of games to end the year last year.

Olsen has caught virtually every pass thrown to him in camp this season so far. He looked good in his first pre-season game, he runs great routes and is far above the physical talent than Clark is. I had Clark last year in FF so I do like him but, IMO he will probably be relegated to more blocking duties this year where he is really good at. Angelo drafted Olsen to be the big TE we haven't had since Ditka.

Yea, he's another good one. I forgot about him.

i would also take daniels; i think he's in a higher tier than the others. i'd maybe take a chance on olsen as a TE2 if i had some sense of playing time -- clark had a pretty good season, as intrinsic pointed out.
