Interesting point brought up by statorama on another thread. Made me think.

If you are the 1972 Dolphins and you want your record to stay intact, who are you pulling for Sunday? New England or Indianapolis?

Why?

J

Rooting for Indy this week, Pats have a better D and O right now, they are the more likely of the two to go 16-0. I forgot to mention the division NE plays in, much easier schedule...

Colts still have the Chargers on their schedule. To a lesser degree they still have the Jags and Ravens as well. Pats have Pitt, but I dont think Pitt can match scores with NE as well as SD can match with Indi personally. They also have Bal, and finish with the NYG. I guess both schedules have some tough games left on them, but I think the SD game is the toughest of any of the remaining games for either team.

I'm not a fan of either team, but I hope one of them goes undefeated so we can finally put these bonehead '72 Dolphins out to pasture. I'm sick of hearing about there champagne celebrations each year. They weren't even the best team in their own decade. Sounds like they still need attention to me.

It's upsetting to me that they're rooting for ANYONE. What they did as a team was magnificent, but they have marred their legacy over the years IMO by actively rooting for other teams to lose. They should realize that their achievement stands on it's own, not affected by what comes after it in a different era, but they're unable to do this because they're a bunch of myopic crabby old men (led by Nick Bunocotti!)

It's a bunch of old guys that like to party together, and have given themselves a reason to do it annually. I have a golf outing with my old friends; they have a "hey, the last undefeated team lost" reason to party. Big deal. :banned:

They should just be happy that Indy and New England play each other
The NFL should be happy that these two play each other. Can you imagine if they both went 16-0?
Yawn, I'm a Dolphin Fan and I don't talk about a 16-0 season that happened in the 70's. All I care about are Super Bowls wins and we haven't even sniffed the playoffs in quite a while. Truth be told, I"m glad the Dolphins are losing their asses off because they have made the dumbest personnel decisions of any NFL team for quite some time...well maybe not as bad as Texans not selecting Reggie Bush, but still pretty bad though.

It's Not True!!!

I would have said Indy but then someone commented on the Patriots desire to play he AFC championship in a dome to maximize the passing game so they can use their strongest suit.

Patriots - So they have to play he championship outside in NE

A perfect regular season is 16-0 but a perfect season requires a Superbowl.

They should pull for the Colts, because once Indy clinches home field they will stop playing to win curing the regular season.

The Patriots (IMO) will go all out to go undefeated if given the opportunity.

The Colts look to be more willing to sit their starters at the end of the season in preparation for the playoffs then the Pats. Add that to the fact that the Colts have the more difficult remaining schedule, therefore the '72 Dolphins will be cheering for the Colts.

I'd rather deal with the '72 Dolphins every year than the '07 Patriots

Two years ago when the Colts threatened to go undefeated, I happened to talk to Jim Kiick of the '72 Dolphins for several minutes.

He said that stories of annual champagne popping were greatly exaggerated and that he wouldn't mind if a great team came along and went undefeated. He seemed like a really nice guy and I believed him.

From what I've heard from other sources, Nick Buonticonti and Mercury Morris might be the only ones who would stick pins in a Peyton Manning or Tom Brady voodoo doll to keep their unique status in NFL history.

Im rooting for the Pats.

I want them to go undefeated in the reg season and lose in the Superbowl.

Colts...they will lose 2-3 games this season with or without the game on Sunday.
I bet the 72 Phins are rooting for the Colts, they already know dungy is soft and will sit his starters week 15 or so. BB on the other hand has the eye of the tiger and they fear him. They should too, he's "mad" :football:

10 Nov 11 IND @ SD 11 Nov 18 KC @ IND 12 Nov 22 IND @ ATL 13 Dec 02 JAC @ IND 14 Dec 09 IND @ BAL 15 Dec 16 IND @ OAK 16 Dec 23 HOU @ IND 17 Dec 30 TEN @ IND Aside from the inevitable "severe" underdog knocking them off, SD, Jacksonville, Baltimore, and Tennessee all have a legit chance to beat the Colts. If they beat the Pats, I would not bet on Indy @ San Diego. That game smells of upset. 11 Nov 18 NE @ BUF12 Nov 25 PHI @ NE13 Dec 03 NE @ BAL14 Dec 09 PIT @ NE 15 Dec 16 NYJ @ NE 16 Dec 23 MIA @ NE 17 Dec 29 NE @ NYG Pittsburgh, Baltimore, and the Giants have a chance here. If it were in Pittsburgh, I'd give them the best chance, but frankly, the Giants may be able to pull it off if Eli is on his "A game". I'd easily say SD has the best chance of any of these.
