If you had to pick one QB to win you ONE game (1 Viewer)

And you could pick the QB at the peak of his career, which of these five guys would you pick?

John Elway

Steve Young

Brett Favre

Peyton Manning

Tom Brady

I would take Steve Young.

The game has evolved a lot, even over the last 10 years and I often wonder how some of last generations stellar QBs would fare in the modern-day NFL. So if the game was played "in current times", I would lean towards Peyton Manning, as he has proven to be a winner now and know todays defenses better than most.

He's proven to be a what? The only banners I saw in the RCA Dome on Monday night were for division winners and 2003 AFC Finalist.Winners are made in the post season. Peyton Manning has a long way to go to be considered a proven one.

Seems to me the game is more QB friendly than ever before, so I think those "old timers" might actually have improved on their stats if they played today. I have no doubt that they'd do just fine.

It took the best cornerback in the NFL and a botched call on the Champ Bailey fumble to beat Brady in a loser-go-home game.

If the Pats win it all this year, there is no question whatsoever who I want in ONE game

I'm frankly puzzled by all of the Manning love here. He has proven again and again that he cannot perform when the chips are really on the line. He is 3-6 in January. How can you rely on a guy like this for your ONE victory?

Of the short list of QB's of the thread, it seems to me that you have to go with a guy who has won the game when it counted in January.

Young is 8-6 in January with 1 Super Bowl appearance and 1 Super Bowl victory.

Favre is 11-9 in January with 2 Super Bowl appearances and 1 Super Bowl victory.

Brady is 10-1 in January with 3 Super Bowl appearances and 3 Super Bowl victories.

Montana is 16-6 in January with 4 Super Bowl appearances and 4 Super Bowl victories.

The only two guys who have consistently won in January are Montana and Brady.

Of the two, I would choose Montana.

I don't get it, either. It is very possible that Manning, with a good defense to rely on, will be good enough to win it all in January, but at this point in time, we still don't know, so I would rather go with guys who have actually won consistently in January. My pick was Young, with Elway and Favre a close 2nd and 3rd. I think some forget how truly awesome Favre was back in the 90's. He did what Manning is doing now in the regular season. The difference is Favre had a lot of postseason success.

I'd agree with this, if your assumption that "the winning percentage of a QB in games that count in January" is the best, or even a good, predictor of how a QB will do in the next big game. I've got no reason to think that it is.So with that out of the way, I'd probably take Steve Young from that list. If not limited to the list, I'd grab Staubach. Two of the best passers of all time, but both were also pretty decent runners. The chance to grab a double threat is too attractive to pass up.(Note: I think Young probably was better than Staubach, and was certainly a better runner. But Young had so many positives in place -- Rice, Seifert, Watters -- that while I'm not knocking Young, I just feel a bit more confident that Staubach could do well regardless of his situation. Had Staubach not had to go to the Navy, there's a very good chance he'd be considered the best QB ever.)

You can have all five of those guys. I'll take Dan Marino
I also think that marino has a winning record against all of these guys except for steve young (I could be wrong, I have tried to look it up but it does not seem to be easy to find)

If it is a very good team, I would pick Young.

If the team is mediocre I would take Favre.

If it is a team with a great defense and you wanted as few mistakes as possible I would take Brady.

Since post asked OF THESE 5....

I agree its very hard to separate Brady, Young, Elway. All great competitors. Young & Elway had more physical tools than Brady but I'd think Brady would come up with a better gameplan and he won without any offensive studs around him.

Still, if my franchise depended on it I'd probably go Elway - hard to forget what he did to Cleveland.

:moneybag: Who said the game was in January?

I would go with Elway. He could win games all by himself. Some of those teams he took to the super bowl were just flat out awful.

I must have missed it when Brady started coming up with the gameplan for the Patriots. As for the thread question, I'd take Young from the players listed.

If the one game were this weekend, the answer must be:

Matt Hasselbeck.

It is statistically impossible for him to throw for under 300 yards and 3 TD's this week.

Elway. But I recently watched "John Elway's Greatest Comebacks" (it's a classic in my parts), so I'm sure I'm biased right now.

An NFL game Steve Young. Was thinking Elway... but he was just pulling 4th quarter miracles after lackluster play (look at his QB rating for years). Also (turning into an Elway rip I suppose)... through his first four (YES, FOUR) Super Bowls Elway had 2 TDs and 7 INTs... and that should be the ONE game you need a QB. The 5th one was good, but let's not get into the TDavis banter.

Fantasy... Peyton Manning... regardless of the defense they match.. he always gets at least 225 and 2.
