Depending on your league, it's still kind of early to stop trying to win. I'm probably going to be 3-5 in one league, but now that my byes are done I think I've got a legit shot at getting into the playoffs.

If anyone obviously starts tanking in my leagues, they wil not-so politely not be asked back next year. My advice to you is play your best and after the season, quit fantasy football forever..... Sounds like you don't have the stomach for it.

Where's "Win as many games as possible and still win the division"?

I'm about to go 3-5 (mainly because Lynch was in my lineup and Green-Ellis was on my bench) yet it looks like the other 3 teams in my division will go down as well meaning we'll all be 3-5 and a 4 way tie for first.

I have an average team but I'm 3-5 because I go up against hot teams (Kenny Britt last week, Jamaal charles/Jason Witten this week) combined with stupid draft decisions (passed on Foster in the 4th round for Spiller) and bad lineup decisions. Still think I could make the playoffs though. 12 team league BreesOrton, Bradshaw/Lynch/BJGE/Wells/Spiller, A.Johnson/A.Gonzalez/S.Smith car/Amedola/Knox/Murphy, Moeaki, crosby, Pittsburgh

regardless of my record, if I do not feel my team has enough to win it all this year, I position myself the best way possible to win next year.

This doesn't mean to tank, as I will continue making pick ups, and starting the best available players I have, but it does mean if I have high performing players that will not be a part of my future, I will move them for younger players, or draft picks.

 In a dynasty league - I have two strategies: Do whatever I can to win this year, or do whatever I can to win next year. I try to put my best line-up in every week, but I will deal players who I don't think will be keepers, or fit into my plans for next year.In a re-draft league - I will fight to the bitter end.

This.I am still going after FAs and will field the best lineup I can...but I will move players for picks/prospects, and if that means I can't compete this year, then so be it...but I'm definitely not tanking. For example, I had Brees/Fitzpatrick, but was going to lose Fitzpatrick in the offseason, so I traded him for 2011 picks...this means I don't have a QB in Week 10...but you can't say I didn't improve my team since I got picks for a backup I wasn't going to keep in 2011.

Good point. I'm in a keep 3 league, am 3-5, and after a pretty good performance last night I'm thinking about moving Brees. We can only keep guys for three years and Brees' goes back into the pool after this season. A contender might be willing to give me something of value for him if he thinks that could win him a championship this year.

I play to win, no questions asked. I'm currently 0-8 with a rebuilding dynasty team and even though it's no fun losing so much, I'm keeping an eye on the future and still fielding my best lineup every week.

Hmm, I have a strong team with the 2nd worst record in my league. If I made it to playoffs I think I would have a pretty good shot but I've been messing up the lineups week to week so I'm going to put a positive spin on this and say I'm just going to use this as an excuse to play whoever I want and not worry as much anymore. Would have liked to have used Raiders and Stafford this week. Definitely won't think twice about making gutsy lineup choices/pickups now.

I always play my best lineup, even on my crappy team. I may feel it's pointless, and hope that I lose the game and move closer to a top pick, but that doesn't mean that I shouldn't be making my opponents earn every victory. It isn't fair to the rest of the league to put in bad lineups.

Plus, sometimes this pays dividends. Last year, in one league I started 1-7, and wound up tying for the division crown with a .500 record.

Lose as many games to have better draft spot next year (without intentionally throwing games) [ 18 ] ** [24.66%]Win as many games to win weekly award [ 52 ] ** [71.23%]I'm done with fantasy football [ 3 ] ** [4.11%]
I think its interesting that a quarter of the people said its OK to tank the season :lmao:

While it has it's flaws, this poll is a good reason to go with potential points for draft position (dynasty) or just random draw (redraft) or just go with an auction (both).

I don't think you get it. Or I don't get it.I assumed we were trading off a couple of top level, aged, redraft style assets for younger top level dynasty guys, for instance, trading away your best RB, Tomlinson, for a mid first and a second to a team that thinks they have a chance.

i dont have any leagues that award draft positions based on previous season records.
me neither... i would assume that would have to be dynasty style.in a redraft league if you have that type of rule you're asking for games to be tanked... and it sucks just as much in fantasy as it does when teams do it in real life.

Sooo your saying that you are NOT trying to win?Because that's what the question is asking -> "Lose as many games ..." Not hoping to lose but trying to lose

I thought the interpretation was obviously that I would be trying to win IN THE FUTURE. Like I said, if my best RB was LT, but I was mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, I might trade him to a contender for their 1st/2nd picks. That certainly could be interpreted as not trying to win, this year. In fact, in a zealots league, I traded away SJax and my RB corps is literally Stephens-Howling, Maroney, Rashad Jennings, and Dany Ware. That's not a winning recipe. However, it does increase my chances of a high pick next year, I have no shot at the playoffs, and I will start the best guys on my roster every week. I have great young QB and receiving options, which will remain next year with whatever RBs I draft.I would say that I made a trade which definitely makes my team worse the rest of the season. Is that tanking? I play the best players on my roster week in and week out, but that doesn't mean I won't trade away a good player for a guy who isn't good this year. For instance, what if I traded Steve Smith CAR for Britt and a 2nd? Britt's out...no way in he's gonna help[ me win a bunch of games. SS is productive still, but aging. Could be my last chance to get decent value for him. So I trade him. Are you saying that I shouldn't do that? I'm trying to improve my draft position by making this year's team worse, and gaining not only that better draft spot, but also more picks, both of which help me win next year.

Btw, how do you lose as many games as possible without intentionally throwing the game? If you're deliberately playing weaker options isn't that intentionally throwing the game?
