Not usually one to start a general discussion thread but i think Favre deserves one.

Did you guys just see the Brett Favre tribute on FOX? I think that was an amazing cast of legendary sports figures showing their respect for a guy that has changed sports (albeit a little nostalgic).

Do you guys agree?

Guy that changed sports? I don't see the NFL being any different if Favre had never been born. That said, I'm a fan of Favre and understand why he's so popular.

No i am not kidding actually. I think Brett Favre has revolutionized the way we look at sports. His level of passion and dedication is rare. He's on a whole 'nother level. If ya cant see that, well, i dont know.guys like Gretsky, Bird, Ali, Lance, Favre not only effect their individual sport but all sport. Competitiion is the focus and these guys are and were at the top of their games.

 Have a bit too much wine already today?Let's play a little game of "Which one does not belong with the others?"

Taj Mahal

The Louvre

The Eiffel Tower

The Empire State Building

Tropicana Field

Putting Favre in there with Muhammad Ali et al., is absolutely asinine. But, funny, at least. :lmao:

Before we even start the discussion can we also remove Larry Bird from this list? This just sounds more like your personal list of favorite people than guys who 'changed their sport'. Magic and Bird may have taken the NBA out of obscurity but I think you're looking for Chamberlain, Jordan and to some extent Shaq as your yard markers in terms of impact or change to the sport itself. If you're talking about guys that transcend their sports than yes Ali, Lance, Gretz, Tony Hawk, Pele, Babe Ruth...etc would be a good start to a list. BUT Favre included on this?...sorry. No way. He's one of those gritty guys that the average joe calls their favorite like Ripken, Rose, Bird, Riggins simply because they have the perception that they brought their lunch pail to work with them...great players all, but transcending or changing?...Nope.

absolutely. i agree with what you say. The names I chose were the figures in the FOX tribute. I think Cal Ripken was in it to now that you mention. now, i'm not saying he will have the same lasting impact as a guy like Ali. Ali was instrumental in ending the cold war! But I do believe that he is a Legend among legends, right alongside the likes of wayne, ruth, jack nicklaus, etc. I also thinnk it would be dismissive to not include the Bird vs. magic reference. These 2 gripped the sports world when playing at their highest level.

Admittedly, I did not see the pregame spread on Favre. Look, I love watching the guy just as much as the next. But, if that's really what FOX was trying to sell, it wouldn't be the first time a network oversold its product to consumers. He may be among the top 10 QBs of all time, but that doesn't put him in the transcendent elite that make up the other names on that list.

Bird was great and the leader of one of the better NBA dynasties.he also had the impact of single-handedly taking his indiana state squad to the NCAA championship game.

You can't mention Bird without mentioning Magic. And you can't mention either without mentioning Micahel Jordan. Those two will be forever connected.....for bringing the NBA out of the dark ages and for their storied rivalry. If Boston was a "dynasty" (I don't think they were) then the Lakers have to be called a dynasty as well. But if you want to talk about NBA dynasties, then look no further than the Chicago Bulls.I don't see Favre fitting in with that group either. Peyton has probably had an even bigger impact. None of those guys really changed the game or had a global impact like some of the other names mentioned here. And I am a huge Favre fan....I have him on at least 5 of my 8 fantasy teams.

favre looked like brady jr out there
He looked like a lifetime 2800/28/15 guy who is a good game manager on fantastic teams????I didn't see Favre using Moss to culpooper his stats up for one season after 6 seasons of Don Majkowski-like stats.... nor did I see him classlessly throwing touchdowns on fourth down ahead 45-0 to pad his stats even more....Not sure where this Brady Jr. comes from.... :bag:
