I'm tossing around a possibly crazy strategy for my league (1 Viewer)

ok, background it that our league has 11 starting roster positions and only FOUR bench spots. Insanity, I know. The draft is tomorrow and the commish refused to increase the bench.

So, of those 11 starting spots, 3 are IDPs (DB, DL, and a flex spot).

Would it be insane to not start one IDP player so I could have an extra bench spot for say a TE, RB, WR, etc? Considering how many points are generated by IDPs (last year it was average of 4-5 per game) I'm thinking I might be better off with the extra bench spot.

Consider a short term injury- whoever that happens to in the league is completely shackled because they don't have enough bench to add another (say it's a RB). What if there's a bye week for one of your RB's and you have an short term injury of another of your stud RBs. You don't want to drop that stud RB for one week just so you can play an IDP who's going to give you 5 pts that week.

Then again the scoring this year is new with IDP TD's worth 9pts and significant for interceptions, etc. see below for some of the IDP scoring highlights:

Tackle Solo (1)

Tackle Assist (.5)

Sack (3)

Interception (3)

Fumble Force (3)

Fumble Recovery (3)

Touchdown (9)

Safety (6)

Pass Defended (1)

Block Kick (6)

Given the above, would that be something worth considering as an emergency situation? Every week? Or complete lunacy?

I know as a league we are all on equal playing field. BUT, the injuries are going to be random, and whoever happens to have the bad luck to get hit with that is going to have no chance with this roster scenario. Does that call for such drastic measures?

I think that it might be a good idea to have 2 permanent IDP and pick up various guys right before each game and then drop them after the game each week. If you are suffer a wave of injures you might only start 2 IDP one week, but I don't think it is a good idea to do that every week.

I'd always keep 3 IDPs on your roster - don't give away points to have a stronger bench.

tell you what,

if it becomes a catchy controversy...everyone will start to do it and i bet the commish changes the rules.
