In 1990 Dave Stewart of the A's threw a no-hitter (1 Viewer)

He was a very good pitcher who always seemed second best...Then two hours later that night, Fernando Valenuzula threw one also...

Kinda reminds me of today

he was on the A's / Giants telecast a few nights back talking about how a pitcher who has "been around for a while" can come out of seemingly nowhere to have for awesome seasons in a row when he was supposed to be past his prime.

he reasoned that it was because he had the talent but it wasn't until a particular pitching coach taught him more about the mental part of the game and situational pitching... i.e. what do to if.. guy on first 2 out,.. loaded no outs.. etc..

very classy guy

very interesting listen

There aren't any pitching coaches in the Hall of Fame and I doubt Dave Duncan will be the first. But I think you could make a reasonable case in support of his candidacy.

He should be. I don't think a manager, unless he just goes completely off the rails, can affect the game as much as a pitching coach.

Did Duncan ever teach him the difference between a female prostitute and a tranny?
