In this thread I rank my favorite Beatles songs: 204-1. (8 Viewers)

Rock on, George, for Ringo one time...

I just sat in my car listening to "Rain" because it came on right as I arrived home, and I didn't want to miss it.  Because I don't have a billion other avenues or devices by which to listen to that song any time I want.

When I'm in my car with my mom these days, every time a song comes on, she says, "What number is this?"  Well, other than those she already knows, which is a pretty good number!  Today, "We Can Work It Out" came on, and I cringed:

kristamom:  What number is this?

me:  Ahhh, I ranked it way too low.  For over two months I've been thinking it needed to be higher.

kristamom:

me.:  OK, it was number 62.

kristamom:  Yeah, that's way too low.  This is a great song.

We Can Work It Out has been officially moved to #47.

I believe this qualifies mom to do her own XM segment.

Your countdown confirmed what we already knew.  Ranking Beatles songs is very difficult and is never really finished.  The current song that you are listening should have been higher.  Always.

There has been a breach!  The wall has been breached!

One of my IRL friends sent me a link to this thread today.  Everyone be on your best behavior.

Many many many many breaches!

MAN THE WALL!  MAN THE WALL!  MAN THE WALL!
What? Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!

And it ain't over now. 'Cause when the goin' gets tough . . . the tough get goin'! Who's with me? Let's go! C'mon!

What the eff happened to the FFA I used to know? Where's the spirit? Where's the guts, huh?! This could be the greatest night of our lives, but you're gonna let it be the worst! "Ooh, we're afraid to go with you Yankeefan, we might get in trouble." Well, JUST KISS MY ARM FROM NOW ON!!! Not me! I'm not gonna take this! Wormer, he's a deadman! Marmalard, DEAD! Niedermeyer....

Quick work break to remember to put the audio link for my radio segment here and in the first post of this thread, in case any of the thread regulars missed my separate thread about it.

Also a reminder that the top 100 song countdown starts today at 2 pm PDT.  I'm not going to suggest sitting and waiting for #11 to come on, but if you happen to be in your car listening around that time, you'll hear me again, this time with a script provided by the channel.  The countdown will be rerun back-to-back all weekend.

No Reply thunks in at #74!

:lmao:

Ordered With The Beatles and A Hard Day's Night on vinyl the other day. Stereo mixes. I think I wanted mono. Still, it's The Beatles.

Nice!!!

If something that's supposed to happen Monday happens on Monday, I'm getting a turntable and new setup with vinyl.  So excited.  I've been reading the recent "help me with a vinyl setup" threads, though frankly I understand very little about it.  First new vinyl purchase will be the Beatles.  All of it.

Thanks, k4! I noticed a gaping lack of Beatles in my record collection, thought of this thread, felt the guilt :) , and ordered 'em. Next up is Please Please Me and Beatles For Sale.

Definitely check the vinyl threads -- Otis started one over the summer and somebody else started one recently. Best of luck with that thing that's supposed to happen! That sounds like a good thing.

On an unrelated note, I have nothing by the Ramones, which certainly must change.

Oh yes, that must change, too!

My goal is going to be to get you to extend your Beatles listening into Help!, too.

Oh, sure. No doubt. I go through Rubber Soul and now through Revolver and the later ones thanks to this thread, so I'm good with Help! Always have been, really.

I think before I go with more Beatles records, I'm going with the Zombies box set. I always loved their sound, too, and buying their stuff separately makes no financial sense, really. Hmm...not sure. We'll see. :shrugs:

I had that on CD!  Back when people had CDs.  Loved it.

Zombie Heaven? That box set cover and booklet still sits handsomely on my shelf (Alec Paolo wrote the liner notes -- it's such a nice package) but the CDs are really scratched up because I think I bought it in '98 or '99 during my stoner phase, and I would just have stacks upon stacks of them. Plus, I traveled with 'em in the car and was lax in storage and care. Tons of weed. The jazz/rock fusion of the Zombies sounded great.

Anyway, I'll try and keep this about the Beatles. Loving the albums today. I'm even digging their R & B and girl group covers, something that usually strikes me a little funny.

That's it!  I didn't remember the name but looked up Zombie Heaven and that's the one.  Beautiful packaging.  I'd say I bought it in '98 or '99, too.  Unfortunately I got rid of all my CDs at one point, other than those from friends of mine.  I bet these will sound fabulous on vinyl.

Since I'm supposed to be talking about the Beatles, something I'll recommend that I've just discovered recently is that Thank You Girl sounds insane on good headphones.  It's kind of spooky in any case, but uncomfortably stunning on headphones.

Uncomfortable?

Try loosening the headphone strap - dummie!

😜

Some of us still buy CDs!    I buy them used for a few bucks and dump them on an old laptop that is used as music storage to put albums or songs on the family's phones or iPads.  And, it may be difficult to believe but, some of us still listen to CDs too!   I never upgraded the stereo in my almost 11 year old truck.

That thing that was supposed to happen today was selling my old house, which had been on the market for nine months and had three prior contracts that fell through.  It closed today!  I had just sworn to myself that, after all that had happened, I wasn't going to talk about it to anyone (including Mr krista or other family) until it closed.

Vinyl set-up, here I come!  I had planned to reward myself for surviving all the stress with the audio equipment as well as taking my mom and stepfather to the Paul McCartney show in Vancouver.

That's awesome. I know from this and previous postings (maybe I read it in GMTAN?) that it had been hanging over your head. No matter how artfully you put it, it must have been weighing on you. Congratulations, k4! Enjoy the spoils!

So, I was thinking.  Since The Beatles Channel does their rankings of the top 100 Beatles songs on a yearly basis, are we going to get a yearly ranking from Krista? I mean, come on, we were already getting some re-ranks and do-overs while the countdown was going on.  Things change.

If so, I call doing the intro for song #11, and there better not be some other doofus getting the #6 spot.

Oh good lord please no.

Last week my Mom declared, unprompted, that she has decided While My Guitar Gently Weeps is one of her top five Beatles songs.  Thought you guys would be proud of her.

In other news, if you just can't get enough of my My Fab Four, it's being rerun this week (all times PDT)

Tues 5/14 at noon

Wed 5/15 at 10 p.m.

Fri 5/17 at 6 p.m.

Sun 5/19 at 2 a.m.

Is she working on a Top 25?

Her top 25, not what she thinks her daughters Top 25 might be.
