Buena suerte, pajarito. 😀

Guys?  Guys?!?!  These fellas arrived today.  Now I need something to play them on!
IN FABULOUS MONO!!! Is it a mono showcase?

In all seriousness, I looked up those beautiful looking records (bad boys/bad ladies) because they were something I hadn't seen immediately in searching for records. You must be really excited to have them in that beautiful package in what looks to be sealed condition. Wow. Congrats, bud, on the pull.

Massive thumbs up on the purchase

Thanks!  I am excited.  I didn't open any of the records themselves for a day or two because I was just admiring them and didn't want to interrupt the pristine condition.     Then I gently opened Help!.  Just that one.  Turned it around and looked and put it equally gently back.  Now they're patiently waiting for something on which to play them.

i would loooove to Hipple this thread, but the largess and brilliance is so daunting - ergo, i'll fire some salvos - "Good Day Sunshine" would be my slam dunk for #204/worst of the lot.

there, i got me toes wet  :D

oh, and ... this is a remarkable achievement, K4 - amazing work!

Or, perhaps - something to play on them?

It would be the perfect way to protect your investment.

I love that they are the mono mixes. Early stereo could be a bit too separated, but they fixed a lot of that by the 70s. Of course by the 80s they started ruining mixes with overdone drums and compression on some fairly sterile cd mixes.

I caught Macca tonight in his opening show of his tour, here in NO. Fantastic show, his voice was surprisingly strong. McCartney has a connection to the city dating to the 70s when he lived here a little. Anyway, just tremendous.

Love it!  Happy to hear his voice is still strong.  Any particular highlights for you?

I am confident you and Mr. krista will choose wisely. It's actually kind of an investment and can become a project that gets a bit out of control. My only advice, unsolicited, but as someone who has been there: Keep it simple and don't let all the options lead to doubt that ruins your good time in celebrating something cool. I'm running a decidedly non-audiophile setup and still am enjoying the heck out of it. Or, kind of conversely, if you're going to go full boat...don't skimp. Start with the speakers, as my brother always says. Regardless, and I digress too much (but do it because I care about people's systems and the enjoyment therewith)...

Happy equipment hunting, and good luck!

as i was digging through this thread i recalled posting a top 10 list up in the epic Beatles one started by @saintsfan (where has he gone? he would've crushed in here)

anyways, the ball got rolling in response to @Godsbrother about my disdain for "Good Day Sunshine"  -  here

that prompted a few more top 10 lists, and then these  appearances  by our own super girl Krista, the latter foreshadowing this incredible ranking endeavor that took place lo these fantastic 126 pages.

the posts i cited date back roughly two years, but would like to think they served as an impetus to have at least sparked a bit of germination - ;)

sorry i missed all of the real time goodness of this stupendous effort while on my exile (Elba-nor Rigby?) <--------  :X

PS - also included was my post about Blac Rabbit ... they kinda got lost in the shuffle over there - they deserve another look, that's for damn sure.

11- Eleanor Rigby     (great intro, Beatles Channel)

6 – Abbey Road medley     stupid Beatle Fan Mike gets all the glory

If we ranked the intros #11 would clearly be #1 :hifive:

p.s. I know a guy who knows a guy who knows a girl who once dated Beatle Fan Mike and she says he's a #####.

Funny that your post was in response to the two that ended up as my #203 and #204.

♥️ your #4-8.

it's in the living room with the clear vinyl covered couch.
My grandparents on my mom's side had one of those things, but the turntable was on the very right side, and there was a TV in the center, and it had sliding doors that could hide it. Does yours have a TV in the middle? When my mom sold my grandmother's house about 10 years ago, the guy that bought it wanted to know if that TV/record console could come with the house when bought, and my mom said sure. He was so excited, and so was mom, cause she didn't know what she was going to do with it. That thing brings back such great memories of lying on the floor and watching Hee Haw and The Lawrence Welk Show, and listening to country and Christmas records.

yeah, they are certainly the usual "chalk" when folks choose to cite the worst of the catalogue, but, like i alluded to in that older post, i don't mind them as much as others - "#9" works for me on an aural abstract sculpture level - it's sloppy and messy and a tad pretentious, if not flat out bloated - but it was ballsy enuff, in a #### YOU! kinda way ... conversely, i can dig why Paul wanted wanted to scrap it from the final product, even though i think it fits in snugly, and i loooove the segue into "Good Night", which John wrote for Ringo ... don't think we get a better back to back snapshot of all the dichodomy of Lennon than those two juxtaposed offerings.

"Wild Honey Pie" is a ton more ballsy than it's similarly titled offering ... "Honey Pie" is that schmaltzy Paul i can definitely live without, whereas WHP is a ton more loose and filthy.

and, speaking of schmaltz, GDS make me wanna vomit. eh. so much on "Revolver" has convinced me for years that it was the first punk/alterna album ("Taxman" resonates through every note of the Jam's early cagalogue, ditto "AYBCS" with the Buzzcocks) - "Tomorrow Never Knows" was template enough for the post punk/psychedelic goth that i love so much.

GDS?  yeah, no ... i wretch. #### him for that maniacally ###### ditty.

♥️ your #4-8.
ya know, i am running this thread back to font, so i'm not aware of your top final top 10 - though harkening back to the older Beatles thread i saw that you chimed in appreciation for those choosing "I've Just Seen a Face", so me gets the inkling it's gonna wind up top shelf when this is all said and done.

"Bulldog" and "Rain" are so essentially John - the latter of which i feel showcased him at his apex as top dog of the lot ... he was the boss, Epstein notwithstanding - it also was the last hurrah for that status, imo ... things started shifting more towards Paul, drawing them equal for a bit, but then Macca taking the lead after Brian's death ... so, yeah, to me, "Rain" is John in all his "Mocker" glory.

A RINGO SHOWCASE!

@otb_lifer, sorry that I'm not more considered or thoughtful in responding right now.  I'm on vacation and just barely checking in here.  I love reading your thoughts.  I had acknowledged that my #204 and #203 were chalk.  Also, Mr. krista shares your opinion that [nada] Honey Pie is worse than the Wild version.  As for Good Day Sunshine, you'll come across my write-up (though won't read it), but to me it's a persona love/hate.  If I'm in a happy mood, it's spot on.  If I"m sulky, it's the worst song ever.

"I've Just Seen A Face" is my top ranked purely Paul song.  Perfectly encapsulates that feeling of fallllllllinnnnggg....from what I remember.

Ah I wouldn’t mind a Hippling (does that sound dirty).  Wish you’d been here real time as I know you would have had a lot to contribute.

I'm in Barcelona and today came across an open-air market with a guy selling lots of LPs.  Picked up this French release plus this Spanish-release 45 of I Want To Hold Your Hand, This Boy, Money, and You Really Got A Hold On Me.  Yes, I'm going to transport these (along with the Box Tops, Love, Wipers, and Jeff Buckley records) from here to Paris, and then Paris to home.

Really need to buy something to play them on.
If you're still there go to this place!

I’m not sure my favorites will be many’s. Personally his intros and renditions of Something and Here Today were the best for me. And he did In Spite of All the Danger and told a pretty good story around that. His concerts are communal and this was no exception, so at some point it becomes part audience participation, so when he’s doing purely solo stuff like Blackbird that’s awesome. Anyway, considering the connection the Beatles made former when I was around 15-23 this show was wonderful, pretty much the whole thing.

I'm going to be in Barcelona in a few weeks, so I clicked the link. Your link simply links to the top of this page. Bummer, mang.

Whoa. That's so weird. Suppose to eb a Google maps link. Name of the place is in that bad link though La Xampanyeria. It's this tiny place with killer local food and nothing but Cava to drink. Gets slammed by locals and tourists for quick standing and eating and socializing. Super fun. I'll try to link it again.

Damnit. It did the same thing...

Trying again...

OK that worked. Get the Serrano and camembert sandwich. And the beef one. And the pork one. And a bunch of sausages. And the croquettes. And Krista should also get a bottle of the dry rose cava. You can stick to water.

I left Barcelona on Friday. Currently in Paris where I’m on my balcony in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, drinking Champagne I bought in a trip to the region earlier today.  Drinking it alone because everyone else pooped out.  I can’t decide if that makes this awesome or sad, though I lean heavily toward the former.

After a bottle or two of Champagne, so would I.

Are you still not drinking?  I know you were doing Sober February or thereabouts.
Yep. I blipped in mid-to-late March but am continuing on...I'm really not dreading Spain or Italy. Just the flight. I have never been and am looking forward to it. I saw Arthur Lee's Love in the store the other day and thought of your post. Nice choice. 7 And 7 Is...

Good for you.  That's admirable, really.

This is the first time I've done the flight from the West Coast.  It's definitely brutal.  But Spain and Italy might be the two best places on Earth, so it will be worth it for you.

Thanks. Makes for easier mornings.

Yeah, Spain and Italy sound like a dream right now. It's only two and half weeks away, too. I hope you're enjoying yourself and your...

European Showcase!

Wow. All these Euro trips sound sweeeet!

I have never been.

Former - for sure! 😎

Is this as sweet up close as it is on the web?

Abbey of Saint-Germain-des-Prés

Plaça del Rei and Gothic Quarter and the unfinished church of the Sagrada Família are the top 3 for me.

Take photos!

Where in Italy and Spain are you headed?
Barcelona and Madrid and Toledo, Rome and Florence. Leave the 15th, fly back July 4th.  That gives us around seventeen days or so.

It's coming up in a week. I'm sort of excited and nervous at the same time. I know other people don't like flying, but I really loathe it.

eta* Thanks for asking, by the way.

Sorry for the anxiety with the flight. I glew to Spain in the 1998 and all I had was some books and a walkman with an Oasis Cd. Now a days it sure is nicer with 100s of moviess, tv shows, etc. I think last time I flew there I watched the entire run of Brooklyn 99. Still it can be an uncomfortable feeling so I hope you are able to find a way to relax up there. As for Europe, I can't wait to hear about- especially Rome. I want to go there so badly.  Do you have concrete plans or things you plan to see while in any of those places?

Also this makes me think maybe I should have (or in the near future do) take a job in some fancy upper class white school district and double my salary so I can actually go to Europe every summer.

Um, I have a meeting in ten minutes. I'll pass along a PM or post when I find out more.

The only place overseas that I've been is Hawaii in mid 80's.

My dream trip is Europe, Asia & Africa along the Med. Hit all the ancient sites that are known.

I will need a job tho ... or maybe a sugar-mama.

... but, we landed ok

I would love to see Hawaii, I am sure it's gorgeous. I have been very lucky to have had different people at different times pay for me to travel a bit. Europse-wise I have been to all over Spain, Austria, the Czech Republic, Tuscany,  and Budapest. It's well worth if you ever get the chance or at some point want to say what the f and rack up some huge credit card debt. A some point in life, what does it even matter if you owe a bunch of money as long as you don't have a spouse or children who might get stuck with the bill.

YEAH!

Those places kick.

On our Hawaii trip, we stayed on Oahu - my pop served in the Coast Guard there (and Japan & along the Miss River) during the late 50's and early 60's. So we obviously visited Pearl Harbor. On the tour, we got to view a few of the sunken ships from a small craft but I can't remember how many or which ones.

The highlight for me was a helicopter tour over Diamond Head - we spent a good amount of time up. My little sister and I went alone, as my mom can't handle that kind of motion well.

I am consciously budgeting for more travel now too - so, maybe one day - I have no wife or kids or other dependents - you have a good outlook.

I've never seen that Diamond Head before. What is that? What are the buildings inside of it? Super villain compound?

Super villain compound?
This. My sister and I were snuck in for initiation rites.

Oooops.

Never talk about Super Villain Compound.

Seriously, it is one of the younger volcano cones on Oahu that is safe to venture.

The buildings are part of Ft. Ruger

Fort Ruger is a fort on the island of Oʻahu that served as the first military reservation in the Territory of Hawaii. Named after Civil War General Thomas H. Ruger and built in and around Diamond Head Crater, the fort was established by the United States for the purpose of defending the harbor of its newly annexed territory.[2] The fort was established in 1906 as Diamond Head Reservation[3] and renamed Fort Ruger in 1909.[4]

I found something else cool too - Diamond Head

The Crater was the location of several concerts in the 1960s and 1970s.[12] First held on New Year's Day, 1969, and often known as Hawaiian Woodstock, Diamond Head Crater Festivals, sometimes called Sunshine Festivals, were all-day music celebrations held in the '60's & '70's attracting over 75,000 in attendance for performances of the Grateful Dead, The Rolling Stones (3 times), Carlos Santana, America, Styx, Journey, War, and Tower of Power, alongside Hawaii talent like Cecilio & Kapono and the Mackey Feary Band.[12][13][14][15] These one day festivals became two day events in 1976 and 1977, but were cancelled by the Hawai'i Department of Land and Natural Resources because of community noise and environmental impact concerns.[14] Many items from the bands were brought into and out of the Crater by helicopter.[14]
