No details yet, so could be anything or nothing...

An incident Wednesday morning in the area of the National Security Administration in Anne Arundel County has prompted authorities to close Route 32.

Few details were immediately available and it was not known if anyone was hurt.

In a Twitter message, the Anne Arundel County Fire Department said it was assisting the Fort Meade Fire department with “an incident at NSA.”

It went on, saying “no additional information is available.”

Dave Fitz, an FBI spokesman, said the agency was “aware of the incident” and its Baltimore unit was responding.
Anne Arundel Fire
@AACoFD is assisting Fort Meade Fire Department with an incident at NSA. No additional information is available. @AACOPD is not the lead investigating agency. Questions should be referred to NSA and Fort Meade Public Affairs. @FortMead

One injured in shooting at Fort Meade, SUV stopped at NSA security gate

One person was injured and police are investigating a shooting at a security gate to the NSA campus at Fort Meade in Anne Arundel County, officials said.

The injured person was taken to a hospital, Fort Meade officials confirmed.

The incident took place at the Canine Road gate, where authorities surrounded a handcuffed man after a black SUV ran into a concrete barrier.

“NSA police and local law enforcement are addressing an incident that took place this morning at one of NSA’s security vehicle entry gates. The situation is under control and there’s no ongoing security or safety threat,” an NSA statement said.

President Donald Trump has been “briefed on the shooting at Ft. Meade,” and the White House offers thoughts and prayers with those who have been affected, spokeswoman Lindsay Walters said.

The Associated Press is reporting that one person is being held in connection with the incident, and that a black SUV was stopped at the security barrier.

USA Today now reporting multiple injuries:

Several people were injured Wednesday during a bizarre shooting incident outside the entrance to the super-secret National Security Agency after a vehicle tried to crash the agency's main gate outside Washington, according to an NSA statement.

The NSA said several individuals were transported to an area hospital and that preliminary reports "do not presently indicate that there are injuries attributable to gunfire."

I don't want to sound like I'm passing along helpful information to terrorists (if that's what these guys are). But if any terrorists are reading this here's a little PSA when to gain access to the NSA for whatever reason (big furniture sale at the PX,  two for one sale at the Class VI, hoping to kidnap the Director, etc):

Don't try running the gate. The slaloms, pop up barriers and guys with guns will prevent  it from happening. EVERY TIME

Coincidence?

I was thinking the EXACT same thing. Who's bright idea was to breach this facility through the front gate?

My next door neighbor is active duty at Ft. Meade. Glad to hear no personnel were hurt there.

He's fluent in a number of interesting languages... We don't talk about his work much.

well, sure, when he's rapping at you in some near dead east African language i can't imagine the conversations last very long

read an article this morning that, due to the configuration of off-ramps from the highway, it happens fairly often that random drivers divert to this point and have to be stopped/re-routed by security.

1) wtf kind of design is that??

2) hopefully these poor bastards weren't just lost tourists

What I'm hearing (@thecipherbrief) is that these guys were being chased by the cops and just happened to pick the wrong exit to try and evade capture.

That's some pretty bad luck

That's a screwy exit anyway. It kind of splits, with the right lane going to the gate where the incident happened and the left a sort of service road that has a gas station on it (& on to the National Cryptologic Museum, where it dead-ends). And JUST past that exit is the exit for the BW Parkway. People often take the first thinking it's the second.

They changed all of the entrances after 9/11. There's no way an unauthorized, unchecked vehicle is getting anywhere near those buildings. There are cameras and security everywhere.
