Indefinite New England Patriots Thread (6 Viewers)

The Pats are leaps and bounds ahead of where there were at this point last year. Currently 4-0 with a +73 point scoring differential. Last year, they were 2-2 with a -10 point scoring differential. I think better things are still to come as the defense continues to improve and the offense expands some in terms of the playbook (the offense normally hits its stride after the first month and into mid-season). Plus they hope to have LaFell, Wendell, and Stork coming back over the next few weeks. Next week against IND should be epic.

Dudes had it rough, played with Testicular cancer part of last season before having a testicle removed.
Wow, had no idea. Is that what was causing his poor play last season. If I remember correctly he didn't look like himself for most of the season.

Pats shouldn't even bring a punter to Indy, just go for every 4th down. I'd also onside kick at every kickoff. Complete FU to the Colts.
I wouldn't go to this extent because knowing the Colts they would have one of their guys take a cheap shot, but if the game goes as most of us think it will, I would on side kick it after they score with under 4 minutes left to make it 49 - 10.

Colts are known for cheap shots?

No more than any other team, I think its just a threat that most Pats fans live in fear of. The casual offseason commentary from fans and several people in sports radio that the only way to stop Gronk is to injure him, and that its only a matter of time.

I mean, we've seen it practically every time the Pats have played the Broncos, Ward goes low on practically everyone.

Ravens waived Charles James, maybe Bill will give him a shot?

Not a lot of free agent corners, Pats might need to go out and get one.

Dream scenario, we somehow unload Dobson on someone in the same move.

Injuries starting to pile up. Wouldn't be surprised if BB pulls off a trade before the deadline for an underperforming CB. Hightower out tomorrow night as well. Thankfully Mayo is a backup. Who would've thought 5 years ago that one of the Patriots best defensive players is now considered a backup. At least they've got a lot of depth at the LB position.

Colt's Have been much better against the run this year with the two rookie starters but their LBs are not good. I would think Brady passes at least 50 times this game.

I think the Colts run D's improvement is overstated/overrated.

I think Tom will throw the ball plenty, but I also think the Pats will successfully (~200yd) run on them.

I think they run and they throw and I hope they keep running and throwing until the gun against those whiney arsed #######.......

They weren't known for being tattletales either.

You mean the Ravens?

They've done well plugging up the middle. Setting the edge, not so much.

Is Lewis going to start today?
Nobody knows for sure. There's been some speculation that he's ok, but with the late start it's always a risk. This also looks like a Blount game, just based off recent history with Blount and Gray grinding down the Colts for huge games each time they've meet the last couple years. The Patriots will keep doing it till you show you can stop it. If you've got a good backup starting on Sunday or Monday night then he's a good start - i don't see him being a workhorse, but I want as many pats in the lineup as possible tonight. If not, it really comes down to how confident you are in the guy you'd bench him for.

If my opponent and I had a bunch of guys in the 1pm games, and one playing at 4, I might wait until 4 and if i was way behind, play Lewis, if I just needed safe points, play the 4pm guy.

Finally watched the Indy game.

Man, Brady looks great moving around in the pocket. Really light on his feet.

Did y'all see Edelman's move on the fourth and one? He juked, like, his whole body length before diving forward for the first. What an athlete.

Loved Blount and Brady on the LG touchdown. Pretty sure that was a busted play (or, at least none of the early options were there) and LG moved with Brady to give him a target.

Amendola was really good again.

As to defence, it was good that they did eventually figure out the underneath crosses that were burning them early. Good job coaches.

[edit] Special teams were rock solid again. (Stupid me, I didn't even know Slater was still on the team. Awesome that he's been able to make a career for himself on ST.)

That was a well played game, and I'm lucky to be a Pats fan.

On to the Jets: Do they blitz us all day? Can we make them pay? Surprisingly solid club and looking forward to the challenge. Schedule's been soft and that worries me a bit.

Rotoworld says Davis shut down Edelman in the 2nd half but it looks like he was just written out of the script. After Edelman's last drop I said to myself, welp, we won't be seeing any more of that guy tonight, and we didn't. Is he a decoy next week? Does his hand work?

3 bad drops in a row, became the Dola show.

Not punishment, though. Just couldn't catch.

Edit: Thought Collingsworth did a good job pointing out how Edelman was protecting the injury, letting balls into his body, etc.

Trading Hoomanawanui away makes running the 4TE super jumbo package harder. But depending on when Develin comes back and maybe even Lafell I think they will bring it back. They can do it now and have done it with 3 TES and two extra linemen, but it's just not as good.

I'm not surprised he isn't being used in the passing game as much as he was in buffalo. Would just like to see them use him more, while conserving Gronk and Edelman in situations when we don't really need them.

Regarding Develin, I assume you're referring to next season? He is done for the year, right?

Glad to hear Cannon and Sheard's injuries are "minor", anyone hear anything on Slater's injury?

He broke his leg in the preseason and was put on the IR to return list. I assumed his return was a possibility this year.Edit: ####... I can't find any mention of him being placed on IR to return just that he was placed on IR and his recovery time was 6-8 weeks.

Idk why they would shelve him for the year if it's only a 6-8 week recovery but I can't find any mention.

Develin is on regular IR and is done for the season. A team can only have one player a year put on IR designated to return, and this year that was Bryan Stork.

Would it be crazy to suggest Welker? I reference the contract they had with Austin Collie, I think that would be perfect for welker, but I guess we were also ridiculously short at WR at that point and could spare the roster spot. I know it's unlikely, just curious on anyone else's thoughts.

Not gonna happen. The Pats have two Welker's already in Edelman and Amendola. They added Keyshawn Martin and will be getting LaFell back. They also have Austin Hill on the practice squad. In a pinch, they could use Lewis as a receiver. Not sure Welker would add anything at this point.
