Indefinite New England Patriots Thread (2 Viewers)

I don't like that the Pats twitter has the butt fumble. One doesn't jack with the football gods. Jets are non-loopy this year. We'd better be ready.

EDIT:

How long until Belichick personally deletes that butt fumble tweet?
Yup. This ain' the Rex Ryan Jets, people. This is a scary team.

For this week's game, I could see the Jets put Revis on Gronk as Revis isn't as good on the small, shifty guys like Edelman and Amendola. Further, I could see them go 4DL, 2LB and 5DB for most of the game and hammer anyone heading out on a pattern.

If the Pats can hold on to the football they should beat New York. The Jets have averaged 3 turnovers forced per game, which I don't see NE doing. I see the Pats using some form of cover two or double coverage on Marshall and Decker and then clogging the middle to try to slow down Ivory. Their other receiving options have been pretty much invisible.

I see lots of quick hitters, bubble screens, and dump off passes from Brady with some runs to pick up short yardage on second or third down. The Jets will throw in some blitz from all over the place, but if Brady can see it coming and gets rid of the ball quickly the blitzes shouldn't get to him.

So I'm pretty concerned about the pats corners going into this game. Butler. Ryan. Then a first year and second year guy that I know nothing about. Was hoping for some kind of move this week to fix that. I heard Finnegan was worked out, for what that's worth.

I think Butler and Ryan have been pretty solid

The Jets have Marshall and Decker and then pretty much no one else to catch the football. IMO, that's a much better scenario than playing a team that has the ability to have 5 receiving options on the field at a time. And over his career, Fitzpatrick hasn't fared well against New England (although this team is not those old teams).

ESPN video player is trash and I'm too lazy to pull its source, but heres the preview for Edelman's E:60 that airs next Tuesday at 8pm ET

Its pretty good.

The last time NE lost a home game when leading at halftime was in 2000. They have won 76 home games in a row when leading at the half.

Yeah, same

Good piece from Tom Curran on Butler being challenged: Jets Took Dead Aim At Malcom Butler On Sunday

Super interesting game this (short!) week. Is this Mettalica* loving meathead the next Bill Parcells? Or are the Dolphins a giant balloon? Texans and Titans?

MIA talent on D is real. Pats' injuries are real.

Edit:*spelled wrong. You kids with your bands.

Edelman has been the poster boy for a couple of articles on players with high drop rates, including this one from Will Laws at SI.

Any thoughts? I think 9.6 percent is not that bad at all considering how close to LOS these catches happen, and how YAC is so important to those catches. Edelman is amazing at keeping focus despite how he's often actually starting his first move as the ball is arriving.

edit: Also, Brady's been great, no doubt, but his guys have been helping him too, by making catches at the edges of their catching radii.

The price is right and the Browns are ready to move him - think the Pats should go after Mingo?

They got a couple Olinemen on the block as well but price is a little high considering Solder and Vollmer. If they traded for Thomas they would likely have to let him walk next year as his money isn't guaranteed after this season.

I'm reading that on Felger and Mazz (grain of salt, worst sports radio hosts), Jimmy Stewart via team sources reported the deal is actually all done they are just working on the financials.

This would be huge, he's been dealing with an injury but a 2nd legit corner would improve this defence so much.

Pats secondary has been flying under the radar, Butler has been improving every week and they currently have three top 15 safeties.

Guy wanted to take Miami last Thursday, line was 8.5. He kept talking about how it was a trap game but wouldn't take less than +10.

w/e easy money.

Pfft bwahaha, anyone read this yet? The Prince Tom Brady and the Patriots Machiavellian Spirit of Cheating. I thought he was joking at first, but hes absolutely serious lmfao.

Tom Brady is in a unique position to take a discounted contract – he doesn’t need the incremental money and by definition the championship is worth more to him than the money.

Although taking this kind of discount to try to win a championship is noble in theory, it is also cheating in spirit.

The purpose of a salary cap is NOT to confer a massive competitive advantage to teams with independently wealthy players who can afford to take a discount to try and buy themselves a championship.
So much concentrated butthurt.

With regard to the question of whether this is cheating in spirit, I guess the pushback would probably be Tom Brady has done a noble thing. He is sacrificing money to win. Taking a hometown discount. Similar to another player going to a franchise at a discount where that player thinks he or she can win a championship. That would be a fair point. Except I am not aware of many players that take a 33%-40% discount to market over 3 years that totals to $21mm-$30mm in foregone salary.
What a salty #####.

It really has come down to literally anything the Patriots do is somehow labeled as cheating. Love the ending conjecture on "deferred compensation" It would not surprise me if ESPN(FL lackey) starts to report as more "allegations of cheating"

Also, love the number of "You, sir, are a moron!" comments following this piece of drivel.

I guess the Colts or Ravens will insist on implementing a "no spouses with a higher net worth than you" rule for next year.

Love the idea that one multimillionaire QB is independently wealthy, but a different multimillionaire QB isn't because of who he married.

My favorite comment:

"It only means the NFL wants 100% parody."

Mission accomplished.

EDIT: BTW: You guys should take a look at the twitter feed of @McCannSportsLaw for the last few days. He's been hosting a deflategate conference. Guys are presenting their various cases pretty strongly.
I saw that quote. I love perfect, unintentional comedy.

What the hecks wrong with Collins? that's quite a flu. Rest them guys, we'll still beat the Giants. Sign Darryl Richardson for depth, let Blount and White do their thing. LaFell is back, Amendola looks good, healthy. It's go time.

The secondary just not getting the job done. So many PI calls, not to mention one in the endzone that was entirely missed by the officials. There has to be a free agent better than Coleman...

I think we'll find out this week. Maybe Melvin too???

No Lewis and now Edelman and this team looks beatable. Not to mention they can't cover a top WR.
After the long TD, Butler was pretty fantastic in coverage.

and I put a large % of the blame on that TD on McCourty, who was late over the top.

He was all over him on him on the TD catch and run. Its possible OBJ catches it if he Butler doesn't get body tackled by Mccourty but he certainly would have had a decent shot at defending it.

Patiently waiting for info on Edelman, it didn't look serious but they declared him out pretty quickly.

Gotta also realize the Pats are at hopefully - the worst case for their OLine. They might get Cannon and Vollmer back this coming week which obviously would be huge.
