Indefinite New England Patriots Thread (2 Viewers)

Sounds like Chandler had a bad trip on some Sherm, everybody has been there. No big deal.
Are there any synthetics on the banned substance list? Will he eat a 1 game suspension?

I remember Kellen Winslow Jr. got up to some monkey business while high and he didn't receive a suspension, but he wasn't a patriot - at least not at the time.

Good to know I can just roll into the station up there high as balls and the cops will just escort me over the the hospital and keep it on the down low. That's awesome.

If Jones really did take synthetic marijuana (who knows how accurate reporting is these days), unless they added it to the banned substance list the league should not be able to do anything.

It doesn't sound like it is on the banned substance list, it's not illegal, and he didn't get arrested. I do not believe the league has any legal right to access his medical records, he hasn't failed a drug test (as far as we know), and a first offense does not result in a suspension anyway.

If the league really wants to mess with the Pats, they can try the conduct detrimental angle but I am not sure that would get them anywhere. So IMO I don't think the league can do anything about it.

Patriot details account for a large percentage of most Foxboro policemen's salaries, I'm sure much worse has been swept under the rug.

You are completely incorrect. K2/synthetic marijuana is totally illegal and has been for a while. It also carries a high/larger legal penalty than marijuana, it carries the same hit as cocaine and other class 1 narcotics.

John Clayton is on my local sports talk pretty much everyday (and is wrong about stuff that doesn't involve the cap quite often) said the synthetic pot stuff will definitely cause some big problems for Jones with the league.

That cant be true, I can literally buy that #### at any local gas station here.

Lmfao, I've read several places that it isn't on the banned substance list. I've also read that its illegal in Boston and a few other cities, but not in Massachusetts itself.

From Kellen Winslow's run in with synthetic marijuana/public masturbation... lmfao

Kellen Winslow will not be suspended under the NFL's substance-abuse policy after being found in possession of synthetic marijuana.

Synthetic marijuana is not on the NFL's list of banned substances.

"Our drug policy is one that has strict and well-defined drugs that are banned," union boss DeMaurice Smith said, via NJ.com. "If they are not on the list, they can't serve as the basis for discipline."
January 31st, 2014

I doubt the policy has changed to include it in one year, but it might have

Well, ESPN has an article entitled: Sources: Chandler Jones had reaction to legal substance.

As I stated earlier, who knows what is accurate or not in terms of what is being reported.

The only thing that can happen at this point is Belichick benching him for a quarter or two, like he did to Welker a few seasons ago in the playoffs when he made those foot jokes. Will Belichick really do that to one of his star defensive players? Who knows, but it honestly wouldn't surprise me to see him on the bench for half the game on Saturday. And for the idiots, Spice isn't on the banned substances list therefore the NFL can't suspend him. Although Marcel Dareus got arrested for it back in May and was suspended for one game.

"The punishment stems from Dareus being arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia after being stopped by Alabama State Police on May 5. Dareus avoided trial, during which he would have faced felony drug charges, by agreeing to enter an NFL substance abuse program in August."

The difference here is that Chandler didn't get arrested nor did he have paraphernalia on him. And I'm almost 95% positive that Spice is legal to buy in Foxboro.

Conflicting info but at least one article states drug store weed is legal in mass. This is the issue in its entirety.
It's legal in Massachusetts but not in Boston. Carries some sort of fine in Boston but you can buy it outside the city. In no way is it a Class 1 Narcotic or whatever nonsense was posted above. It may be in whatever state that guy is from but not in Mass.

The stuff is poison, harsh chemicals sprayed on dried up plants. My understanding is that once it becomes illegal, the manufacturers slightly adjust their formula and are able to sell it again provided stores put it on their shelves.

What did he do that was illegal? Cops are arresting folks for not breaking the law now?

How did they know he didn't break the law? I show up with no shoes, shirt at the police station and appear wasted I'm going in the drunk tank I'm guessing. Probably get tazed if I get a cop who has had a long day

Gronk's knee is much more of a concern to me than anything Chandler is smoking at his house. Getting an injection today can't be a good sign.
According to Rapoport it wasn't an injection and he was just getting treatment and getting ready to play. I'd honestly trust him more than Schefter with his Pats stuff considering his prior experience with them.

I'm having a hard time taking this Gronk stuff seriously.

When did these injuries take place? When he was running outside on 3rd and 9 running plays against Miami?

Plus two weeks to recover.

Doesn't add up.

Apparently he really did have some sort of injection in his knee today at the hospital though. Just saw it would most likely be stem cells or PRP, as cortisone is done in the training room. Either way I'd be absolutely shocked if he was inactive for the Patriots most important game of the year. He played with a high ankle sprain in the Super Bowl a few years back, unless it's a major injury (which we would've heard of by now) he'll be in there on Saturday.

12 players with the questionable tag for tomorrow. Gronk possibly limited due to injury, and Mike Kensil is in town and will be at the game tomorrow. On the upside, two of KCs starting offensive lineman have been ruled out, which could be a big advantage considering how good the Patriots front 7 has been when fully healthy. Here's to a win and hopefully making it to the AFC championship for the 5th season in a row.

Good luck tomorrow fellas - my wife's work holiday party is tomorrow (I know, it's freakin January), so I have to jump through some hoops to catch them game. Ugh.

Honestly won't be surprised by any outcome tomorrow. I feel like they should beat KC, but there seems to be more question marks before a playoff game than I remember in recent history for the Pats. A 75% Gronk and 75% Edleman plus Brady being able to plant on that twisted ankle are rather key IMO.

Won't know 'til game time, then we'll know pretty fast. At least we'll know about the Pats. THEN (if the Pats are back) we'll find out about the Chiefs.

I'd love to see the Pats lose the toss and get the ball to start the game. Go no huddle, no backfield and march down the field and score. Put KC on their heels to begin the game.

I really think KC will struggle on the offensive line with their reserves going against a healthy Pats front 7. If the Pats can get up by more than one score at any point I don't see KC winning.

That was a good win. Our D is built to force opponents to play small ball and KC plays small ball anyway. They're used to taking 12 plays to go downfield. Poor match-up if you think about it, and we hung.

Soooo nice to have the O back.

(Also, is the site screwed for anybody else? Keeps reloading and reloading the page...)

Let's just hope that Collins, Mayo, and Chandler Jones aren't too banged up. The o-line stepped up and was huge tonight. Can't believe KC didn't have any sacks on Brady. I'm confident in the Patriots going into Denver and winning, or beating the Steelers at home.

Pats looked like The Pats vs. KC. Brady with quick throws, finding Edelman and Gronk primarily, but the open receivers in general. KC pass rush not being able to find a groove with the quick strike attack.
