Only mild surprise here is Bryant…many speculated the Wade deal was bad for Williams but maybe it was for Bryant…hoping the Lacosse cut means Smith and Henry are good to go…Asiasi actually showed some sign of life on Sunday.

It's easier for me to just update the post up a couple spots than creating new posts. Will update when I see something, which could be pretty frequent throughout the day.

Newton being cut is a huge shocker. Seemed like the favorite to start week 1 as little as a few days ago, and he had a very good preseason. Even if he was the backup, I'm surprised he wouldn't want to stay and be kept around. I mean, Hoyer/Stidham can't really be the backup plan can they? Is it possible they make a play for Foles?

As for Cam, I would think a team like Houston would be interested if they are serious about making Watson inactive. Otherwise, I'm thinking its backup jobs for Newton. Perhaps a reunion with Rivera in Washington? Maybe behind Lamar in Baltimore? Maybe Dallas as Dak insurance?

Maybe he didn’t like hearing that he was the backup?
It was rumored / discussed months ago that the contract they gave him in March was designed for them to release him before the season without having to pay him much and that there likely was discussion on them releasing him if he wasn't going to start. Cam has been saying since he was released by the Panthers that he only wants to be a starter. We'll see if he changes his stance on that.

A couple of factors in play with releasing Cam Newton rather than keeping him on as the Patriots' backup: His command of the locker room, and his vaccination status. Neither make him an ideal choice as a backup behind a rookie QB.

With him being a vested veteran, and being unvaccinated, no team is going to bring him in before Week 1 anyway now. The odds of anyone bringing him in after Week 1 to be their starter seems pretty low as well. He’s in a spot where a lot of veteran QBs would maybe sit and wait for an injury to happen. But that doesn’t work in his case because he is not vaccinated so the onboarding is even longer than it would be otherwise, so I think teams would be less likely to sign him.

Unless he’s willing to get vaccinated or sign on after Week 1 as a backup somewhere, there seems to be a chance that this could be it for Cam.

This whole situation is very confusing. If they wanted Jones to become the starter (which they should have all along), then why go through all of training camp and not have him work with the starters, especially after Cam had his miscommunication about testing? Bill will be Bill, but IMO Jones would be further along if they had given him starter reps all along. They already cut several of the guys he practiced with all training camp.

The better QB is starting…Curran was spot on in his analysis…people got carried away with who was on the field first not with most…will say this for the 50,000 time…BB always keeps you guessing and if you think he follows a script you will be burnt.

Maybe they simply didn’t expect Mac Jones to be where they think he is now. Couple that with realizing just how disruptive Cam’s unvaccinated status could be and suddenly he becomes the odd man out.

I do think it calls into question just how competitive New England views themselves as. Though it’s not like they don’t have a history of a guy taking them to a championship with a great defense despite it being his first year starting at QB.

CB Stephon Gilmore placed on regular season PUP - will miss at least 6 games (likely part of an arrangement for him to agree to play without a new contract).
DT Byron Cowart also placed on PUP.
LB Cameron McGrone likely on non-football injury list.

Any word on my man Quinn Nordin?

Who gets the NE RB bump?  Gotta be White, right?
Whoever is the goal-line back gets the biggest bump…will be either Harris or Stevenson…I would guess Stevenson but that is just a guess…White and/or Taylor will also get a bump as they now have a QB that can complete a functional screen pass…the issue right now is no one really knows what the plan for Taylor is so what White gains from Cam being gone could be nullified by Taylor being being involved…my other guess is they are hoping Taylor shows enough so he can take over that role full time next season.

Anyone care to take a stab at: Who is the receiver to own?  Meyers or Agholor?
Initially I thought Agholor, as he had a good thing going with Cam and was catching bomb after bomb in camp. But then he both got dinged and had a case of the dropsies. Meyers started off a little slower but did well with either QB. So I have flip flopped on those two and would say Meyers.

I feel very strongly it will be Meyers…he was raw coming into the league and right now it looks like he has it figured out, he looked real good this preseason…I bet he develops a real nice chemistry with Mac and becomes his go to WR.

NE offense typically favors the slot, which is Meyers. Combine that with the fact that he's the only starting WR with experience in the system and has been the best WR in preseason and I think that's the easy choice for top WR.

Happy to see Cam gone so the Mac Attack era can begin.

Poking around for more info on Cam, apparently teammates really took to Jones, were not thrilled with Cam's vaccination status, and McDaniels loves, loves, loves him for the system he's trying to run. The locker room seemed to have shifted to Team Mac.

The quotes from the veterans were happening…two of the vets with the biggest clout are Slater and Hightower and they were saying very legit things about Jones…the kid was putting in the work and the vets saw it…plus, they know they have a better chance with him than Cam…it was becoming very obvious.

David Andrews: "Mac has done a great job. Come in, worked really hard, done a lot of good things."
James White: "You can tell he has what it takes from the first practice with him...he has high expectations for himself."

Now the question is do they bring in another backup…we saw Hoyer last year and it was not pretty and BB showed zero faith in Stidham last year…gotta believe they will be adding someone…with Fields looking legit maybe someone like Foles is a possibility.

I think that's a big factor as well. Cam and Mac play two different types ball. Keeping Cam as a backup doesn't really make sense for the system.

Stevenson is a Harris injury away from top 5 upside IMHO.
