Indefinite New York Jets Official thread - **2025 season** - The indefinite rebuild continues (3 Viewers)

It's easy to feel skeptical knowing our track record, but reports out of rookie camp are glowing.

Surprisingly, the best reports are about Arian Smith. Nick Faria compared him to Deshaun Jackson they was he ran routes and then exploded past defenders after catching the ball. Glenn was ga-ga talking about him. Blazing speed. His hands were pretty good in camp, but he acknowledges that he must focus better and improve his catching.

Mason Taylor looks very good. Catching everything away from his body and making moves after the catch. Reporters that saw rookie camp think he has more upside than he showed in college.

Nick Faria says that Tyler Baron is very underrated and looks bigger than expected. Looked great in camp and thinks at some point he will fill the JFM role.

Membou looked good and fluid.

Donavan Edwards have been the best performer in rookie camp. Every beat reporter said that he looked incredible. Maybe he was playing hurt the last year or so. All reports was that he looked like the 2022 version. It's a crowded RB room, but maybe they keep 4 guys.

Most importantly, everyone is raving about coach Glenn. He's spending a lot of time with the offense rotating with all the position groups. Lots of players are talking about how great Glenn is.
Glenn is constantly communicating with the players and also holding them accountable when they aren't using the techniques they have been taught in camp.

It almost feels like I am the head of the propaganda department here, but everyone is raving about the Jets so far. I don't know how it will translate to wins, but the vibes are great for a change. Things are being done professionally and without the typical drama.
But do we have any cool slogans yet?

“There’s only room for one Aaron”

"We're the freaking New York Jets, and we're built for this s--t."

I hated all gas no breaks Saleh nonsense. Great teams dont need a catch phrase - they win.

You're right. Great teams and players make catch phrases simply by winning.

"Can't wait!"

They were a very good team and he was a very good player.
Theres a big difference between an identity and a stupid catch phrase mantra. Rex's philosophy was ground and pound with crippling defense. Teams knew the blueprint and Rex dared them to beat it. It was an amazing 2 year run - fell apart as always with the QB regressing and losing weapons. But at least it was an identity.

Saleh had the catch phrase but no identity - sure the D was good on paper/stats but it always seemed to give up big plays to lose at the end - Rex's Def sealed wins during their run. Saleh had no offense to speak of - it was a wreck even with a supposed HOF QB.

I'm hoping AG installs a more balanced identity. Obviously his forte is D but he knows hes got some intriguing weapons with Fields, Wilson, Hall and a solid OL - looking forward to him putting it together

Good news. We have a fat kicker!!!

Looks like Tom Dempsey with an entire foot.
I really though the Jets solved their kicking woes with Z - one of the bigger disappointments. Back to the kicker pool.....dude looks like a bigger Janikowski! 240? lol no way

Yes, Z was money a few years ago, but such is the up and down existence of the vast majority of NFL kickers.

Jets owner Woody Johnson has agreed to purchase a 43 percent stake in Premier League club Crystal Palace.

Johnson will buy his stake from American businessman Jon Textor. According to reports, the deal is worth $254 million pending approval from the Premier League and Women’s Super League. The move will make Johnson partners with two other NFL owners as Commanders principal owner Josh Harris and minority owner David Blitzer own the majority stake in the team along with Steve Parish. The 78-year-old Johnson, who served as United States Ambassador to the United Kingdom from 2017 to 2021, previously attempted to buy fellow Premier League club Chelsea in 2022, but was unsuccessful.

I think Woody should concentrate all his efforts with Crystal Palace.

If only Woody was still stuck on Band-Aids, in line with his family's origins.
I was at a dinner party once where two high ranking J&J employees were there. Without actually saying it there was a strong implication that he’s a moron in that business as well.
Nepotism is one of my biggest pet peeves in this world.
I bet you got that from your dad.

This is awesome. From June 20th or around there.

Mark Schlereth's podcast about Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers. At 4:50 Schlereth says, "I started the conversation. I was, like, watching the Jets last year. It was the worst schematic run game I've ever watched in the NFL. I kept watching plays . . . There's a difference between having guys that can't block people and having your players do things that make zero sense. Why in the world would you block this play this way? This had zero chance of being successful. Why in the world would you guys do it that way? This is just dumb . . . so I asked Aaron about it and he went on this diatribe about this dysfunction with what they're trying to accomplish . . ."

So awesome. So they hired your OC and he can't even design a blocking scheme. Whatever you think of Schlereth getting his name in the news, for him to say it was the worst he'd even seen fits Hackett's and Saleh's modus operandi. Just a couple of clowns.

The RBs themselves got borderline implicated in his follow-up show and Schlereth seemed to back off his comments or who he was blaming, anyway. Just a mess.

J-E-T-S Jets Jets Jets.

Hey Mark Schlereth, welcome to watching the Jets. Mighty revelations from you. Tell us something we don't know.

We have had the worst possible coaching year after year. Even non-former players like Stevie Wonder and Mr. McGoo (I'm dating myself here) could see it.

No more phonies like Saleh or inept clowns like Gase and Hackett. Call me Charlie Brown, but I'm optimistic this year that we have a real NFL coaching staff this year. Time will tell.

:excited:

Hey, RAGE! Never on when you are anymore. I agree. Hopes are high. I think it’s going to be a rough year, so patience will be key. Let’s see how Glenn and Mougey handle it all.

AG has the best overall coaching tools/bkrd than any coach the Jets have had since Parcells. Can't expect overnight huge jumps but I expect to see a much better prepared team that plays smart with solid gameplan.

They really should have been a 7 win team last year and while many predict them to be a bottom 3 team I think theyll end up around 7 wins - would be great if they could still be in it by 12/1 for a change.

Next year im expecting the playoff push but so much depends on Fields. I like what I see so far and really hoping they found their Baker/Geno reclamation QB

Hot off press

Garret Wilson signs 4 yr $130M extension with $90M guaranteed. Jets lock up their best playmaker!

Sauce should be next!

The fact that this was done completely behind the scenes and that Garret wants to stay is promising.
Yeah, for once they're doing it right. This stands in contrast to how Jerry Jones has handled re-signing Lamb.

Its a lot of money...but it ain't my money.

Kid is about all the right stuff. Works hard...wants to win....mostly kept his mouth shut (showed frustration but never bus tossed anyone) through 3 terrible years.

No brainer to pay him, even if it's a few spots beyond his rank (he's not the 5th best WR in the league). Hopefully it works out

its the going rate and they have the cap space - each year they wait the price goes up - in 3 yrs this will look like a bargain if he stays the course. Not to mention it dispells the Woody is cheap and Jets dont take care of their own players BS.

Not to mention like Doc said - zero leaks. new regime starting off well so far - sign Sauce and lets start camp!

I love GW5. I can't wait for the new season to start so that all those memories fade away of that washed-up, self-centered conspiracy theorist that ignored him the second half of the season to throw only to his buddy despite GW5 being wide open all game.

I just wish they had done it sooner before average salaries went up....especially for the CB position.

Personally, I wouldn't pay a CB that much, but I have no say in the matter. My preference is to spend money on the d-line/o-line, and offensive weapons. You pay a guy like Sauce and the opposition will just throw it everywhere else on the field. I rather invest in the pass rush. That's just me though.

its better to spend on home grown - look back to Revis years. Having a top CB definitely helps your D. Opens up a lot of options

I don't disagree or agree, but have to say that reading about the offensive line gives me a bit of optimism for this team. Plus the potential for a functioning offensive coordinator to get the most out of the run game instead of, per my post upthread, blocking the wrong guys and having the running backs not know where to go in the play design. That won't happen and guys that can't won't last long with this management and coach.

I hope.

The premium positions to invest in are QB, OL, WR, pass rush and CB - Jets now have youth and upside locked in at most of those positions. Sauce would be a great addition to the core future.

Its now up to AG and staff to develop and actually come up with gameplans and not be out coached week after week.

Cant ask for much more than this - so happy new regime didnt get cute and bogged down in stupid bickering over minimal items like past

QB - young with upside - signed for 2 yrs at reasonable price

RB - Breece one more yr for cheap then likely a casualty unless he takes a low deal - cant see them paying him big bucks after this - probably Davis/allen if they show competent this year - both cheap and signed another 2 yrs

Wr - GW young and locked in long term

OL - bookend tackles and center - young and signed for cheap few more yrs

DL - Q locked in with a reasonable contract- WMD and JJ youth upside for reasonable price

LB - locked in Sherwood - would love Q as well

CB - lock down CB signed long term.

This is a very nice blueprint to build on - if coaching is solid and Fields can just be middle of the road im really excited to see what this team can do

The Jets unveiled a revamped state of the art locker-room after last year's players' ranking of a D+. With this change plus getting rid of the malcontents, Woody has to get at least a C in the rankings.

In all seriousness, it seems like Woody is trying to his best to turn things around. It looks like he is staying out of the way of AG and Mougey. There has been no noise this off-season. In fact, I've seen several articles praising the Jets especially after the GW and Sauce signings. Time will tell, but it's a nice start and cause for optimism. Let's hope it carries through camp and into the season.

woody being worst owner in sports is overblown - is he cringy and too involved - sure...does he meddle when things go bad - definitely. But he has a history of spending $ - both on players and the complex. he also wants to win - and m confident he'll stay out of the way for at least 2 seasons - if they are still lousy by then he'll get that itchy finger as hes not getting any younger.

the barbershop looks cool!

Yeah.....dont get me wrong....Woody sucks for various reasons.

But half the owners in baseball would rather lose 90 games a year and pocket revenue sharing than give a 22 year old superstar a multi-year extension. I know football and baseball are apples and oranges, but worst owner in sports? Not even remotely close.

Even in just the NFL, I'd certainly take what we have over Jax, Dallas, Carolina, Vegas and the Chargers for various reasons.

He's an out of touch trust fund goof ball, but he'll spend $$ and wants to win.

Obviously Douglas made a TON of mistakes. And based on the Jets' history, both guys will probably leave here with nothing but individual honors and HUGE bank accounts.....but man Garrett and Sauce just seem like such nice kids. Just awesome comments today from both of them.
JD had a fair chance and just couldn't win - deserved to go - but he definitely left the team some solid players that he found. Sauce/GWill are great building blocks.

Im ready to be hurt again but there is solid talent here. If Fields can just be adequate and not lose games this team will not be the laughing stock projected. The improvement in coaching should be good enough for a few game swing - last year was almost Kotite/Gase level bad

more positive AG love - never understood why Sauce wouldnt travel to cover the other team's #1 ala Revis Island - sounds like Glenn is going to fix that. Why pay a guy all that to just have teams easily avoid - Saleh was stubborn on that issue

I always thought Saleh and the dad of the draft day prank caller were overrated. They wouldn't blitz. They wouldn't move Sauce around. They basically had a Q and 2 good pass rushers.

2 games stick out for me: 1) When we got killed by Lamb and we didn't do a damn thing to try to stop it even though Dallas did not have even 1 other threat on the offense. 2) The SF game last year when we got pushed around and couldn't stop the run even though SF barely even tried to throw. We had nothing these 2 games from our "brilliant" defensive minds.

Have you seen ESPN's rankings based on talent? https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id...king-starting-lineups-projection-32-teams#NYJ

How are we ranked only 29th?

Granted, QB is problematic considering it's the straw that stirs the drink on offense. Second WR is abysmal. The rest of the offense looks pretty good on talent, albeit young. Maybe, just maybe Smith surprises people and ends up a speed threat as WR2-3.

On defense, our second defensive tackle is not good. If healthy, JJ and Will McD are a really nice pair of bookends. Q is top 5. LB is probably amongst the best in the league. Sauce is top 5. Carter is top third on the inside. Our weak spot is second CB, but if Stephens is below average, they just drafted a talented guy to replace him. Cisco is probably average at safety. Adams isn't good, but maybe the rookie will be better. Add it all up and I don't see how 28 teams are better.

Like we have said, it all comes down to whether FIelds can be at least average with his legs overcoming the downside of his passing/taking sacks. As long as the new coaching staff isn't the toilet that it has been for years, it won't drag down the talent on this team.

Guessing that ranking shifts very quickly if the two tackles live up to their draft status.

But yeah, they're mediocre (at best) at some key spots. Questionable QB, only 1 proven good pass catcher (Although I like Taylor) and despite Breece's early career rep he has not been the same runner post-injury.

And then on D....lost a starting corner (and replaced him with a guy that pretty much everyone agrees was a massive overpay) and JJ is coming off a potentially career changing injury. Carter is probably undervalued at nickel because he played hurt most of last year.

The D could swing pretty quick if a couple of the mid-round draft picks surprise. Thomas has great tools and I like Moore's chances to be a contributor.

its the jets - lazy take is to pile on and deservedly so until they win - but Ill go down with the ship that they have way better talent than 29th - ill bet close to half the league would trade for the Jets current talent and cap situation

I think the low ranking is more than fair. I don't know what else to say other than that. Our DEs are either hurt or got pushed around last year. Q is alone in the middle for the most part. Sauce can't tackle. Our LBs are very good, but it's not a premium position. So we have a NT or DI and a good LB corps with one CB and one nickel back.

On offense, we have a QB nobody seems to think can hack it, an RB coming off a questionable year, one WR1 and then nothing at 2 or 3, what seems like a very promising OL, and a promising TE draft pick.

There's a lot we don't have cemented. No offense to you and optimism RAGE, but I'm not sure I can get too worked up about ESPN's ranking. I don't see more than a six or seven win season. I also see the organization turning around. We're going to have to take our lumps this year. That seems apparent to me. The real question is how do we handle it? I think patience is in order. Instead of a knee-jerk reaction, we need to trust Mougey and Glenn for more than a year before Woody comes stomping back in and ruining continuity and chain of command stuff.

That's going to be the real test—not whether we win eight or six games.
