Indefinite New York Jets Official thread - **2025 season** - The indefinite rebuild continues (3 Viewers)

Every time I think they hit rock bottom....

intimate gathering at the stadium yesterday - tend of thousands of empties as its the first game where the visitors didnt have a cult following.

2 awful teams - fans literally couldnt care less except to once in a while boo. This is going to be the worst season ever witnessed and thats saying something. The stadium will be literally empty for half the season with no one caring or talking about the team. They have no product - no entertainment - no identity or hope to hang on - nothing. I dont see how this regime survives.

Few observations

The defense - despite never making a big stop or turnover as usual - held them to under 2 Tds. That should be good enough to win and yet theyve lost back to back to it.

Offense - I dont understand how it could be so bad for so long - its clearly an offensive league yet theyve had putrid offenses for over a decade - I know the answer is HC and QB and theyve whiffed on both numerous times but at some point dont you just get lucky? Guess not -

QB - I get why they benched fields - he was brutal. But whatst the point of Tyord - the guy is ancient and has no future. If your going to bench Fields then go with Brady Cook - at least you may get some future of him as a backup or something. Tyrod is gone next yr.

Where would they be if they kept Aaron rodgers? I say maybe 2 games tops turn to wins - Im still not saying it was a mistake to release him. I just wish they took the cap hit this year if they were going to stink

HC - I liked AG - I wanted him once it was clear they couldnt get Vrable. Im a big advocate of giving a HC time - they gave Gase 2 yrs - but this is different. I still dont think they go winless but its possible. I cant see more than 2-3 wins and thats only because they play some bad teams down the stretch. AG has looked completely overmatched. Zero gameplans or adjustments. Combative with the media for no reason and then looks foolish - ie: stupid question to bench our QB - the does it in the next half! Taking a knee before 2 consecutive halfs without trying to score points - he looks scared and plays gutless. If they are going to have a defensive HC hire Rex - at least he'll leave it all on the field - this product is unwatchable and I dont think he survives and gets the chance to develop an obvious QB

GM - that WR room is malpractice - he should be fired for that alone.

future - where to go from here - its unbelievable that they need to slog through another 10+ games of this but here we are - this is Kotite level and they need to clean house of all the losers and start fresh. Im really not sure who is out there or possible on the offensive side - McCarthy? I like Kingsbury because he did it before - maybe Brady? I would not let this regime waste a year of development of a high QB pick.

Lastly - Im really not aware or do i pay attention to poster back and forth - but I will say Doc is one of the reasons Ive found this thread and enjoy it so much. Real Jet fans are few and far between - especially ones with good insights - hope you stick around or at least check in now and then to share the pain!
The fact that you're still showing up........this team doesn't deserve fans like you.

Also, I'm beginning to question your sanity.
Ive questioned my own sanity with this team many times - I enjoy going as its tradition and I spend great time with friends and family I only see during these games so for me its money and time well spent. Though we did joke about saving money and just moving the tailgate to a shopping mall or something then go home.

As if the narrative couldn’t get worse, we get to see that Darnold wasn’t just a product of the Vikings system, but is a very credible QB. The Jets just destroyed the early part of his career.
There might be something to be said about spending some time under Kevin O'Connell and Kyle Shanahan as well. Daniel Jones had a cup of coffee with the Vikings and might as well be a completely different player this season.

i see alot of optimism here about the jest and i am still skeptical. simply being a lifelong fan makes me a skeptic, until i see wins. the defensive backfield remains a sieve, as this franchise hates safeties. as long as stephens is on the field it negates gardner, as teams have an easy way around. i am encouraged by the OL, but i’d be happier if 2 premium picks weren’t wasted on bec(weighs a)ton and avt. would love another wr this century, having hall operate as wr2 will cause problems for fields. i disagree with @Ministry of Pain , as i see 5-12. i don’t see NE nor Mia sweeps, maybe a split in the best scenario. i think this team has a chance for an 0-6 start, with 3 of those at home.

Yeah, wish I had knocked him to the sidewalk 2 weeks ago when he bumped into me.

Absolute clown show ownership behavior

He stood right next to me when I had sideline passes in Houston. I should given him one of my patented hip-checks. It would have been priceless to see him go flying.

Unfortunately, I don't think it will improve when Brick and Brack take over for Woody.

True, but it would have felt like a nice small piece of revenge for all of these years.

Eh, the secondary actually got better and Stephens has been excellent the past four games (miracle!). Moore has pretty much been hailed as a good, young safety of note and has taken over already.

Denver and Carolina scored 13 each. We are pretty much set on D (certainly can get better but it looks NFL-esque) even if really thin and precarious. We could of course use a ton of things but we have pressing issues at QB, WR, and HC.

You have a 100 million dead cap problem and a QB who can’t throw a ball thirty yards nor run more than five nor move in the pocket for fear of permanent disability. You have your own **** show to worry about. Your analysis was to call Bill Belichick, which is funnier in more ways than you (eta* not you, MoP, your organization) have the mental dexterity to consider and appreciate.

You are right with us when it comes to having the worst owner and organization. You probably have the worst GM in football. At least our GM is still unknown to a degree (trending seriously both downward and upward). You might actually have a coach that rivals ours for his complete and obvious paucity of NFL head coach requisites. So, yeah. Nobody but fools or diehards were optimistic here and there were those of us that raised serious objections to both coach and roster. Ciao!

May as well start playing Cook and get him a little experience. I doubt the offense could look any worse at this point.
Idk Cook other than this summer.

I'm sorry to bring him up again but Martinez is your guy. I say this with total familiarity with a junk offense which so many aren't doing their job that you don't know how to evaluate this guy or that guy. Is it the missed block? The bad route?
I was dead on right with Fields prediction because of his history and I feel like I've seen it 1000 times. The NFL does not put anywhere near enough emphasis on leadership at the QB position and way too much on athleticism.

Martinez stunk in Lions camp and took to Dan Campbell and Johnson and others and went back to Nebraska to learn and work with his old coach. He ate so much crow before becoming the UFL MVP and he was a coach on the field. The way he would get on someone and soon be smiling. It was obvious. He barked order into that UFL team and that had Campbell say how proud he was. He wasn't even on the Lions then.

I know disorganized offense and players not doing their jobs and is there any order and do you even know what the play is and...I empathize. I know that God awful miserable view on Sunday.

Martinez can absolutely stink against an NFL defense. Glenn knows how he's built and coached with it for years. They can evaluate. They can even get a different QB next year but OMG would order be so welcome to that offense right now. I'm telling ya. I know your pain. The Jets need that field general. It's different coming from a guy that stunk and worked hard and overcame. Players listen to him. Orderly should not be a goal- I know this too well- but I swear I'd have given my left nut if some of my bab Titans teams could finally have some order.

Supposing they won't bring him back. Sometimes it's we already had that guy, sometimes teams do bring players back.

That needs to be Cook's only job. Who cares if he can even complete a darn pass. Get the guys in line. That's a darn mess

Martinez is in SF on the 49ers 53-man roster. That bird has flown.
You're probably right.
Tyrod is old, recently injured, and completed ten passes and threw two INTs. That's the guy that got promoted to starter.
There's just not many options with the caveat being knowing the offense.

Would you be shocked if Vrabel put in a claim for Cook?
All the zings each team has done to the other over the years...I would add him to the active roster ASAP

I appreciate the Jets fans in this thread. Very knowledgeable and so much better than the ones I see on social media. It would be disappointing to see any that regularly post here leave. I’ve known Dr Octopus for 20 years as a league mate across many dynasty leagues including his hometown league. So come on dude stay around.

well after digesting - poorly - Woody's comments they've found their scapegoat. Fields is now the reason they are 0-7. Forget the horrific coaching by handcuffing him, no RPOs, all long drop back passes, interior OL being like a flood, worst WR ive seen on any team in over a decade....its all Fields' fault. He's toast and now we will have to watch a 38 yr old JAG with no future with this organization....all to protect the HC/GM who Woody likely doesnt want to put on the payroll with other unemployed coaches/GM.

For the bolded reason alone, I think we're stuck with Glenn/Mougey for another year because it would kill Woody's ego to admit he made a mistake with those hires. Much easier to throw the QB under the bus.

Well Woody just torched Fields. I guess it's on to Tyrod time.
What a buffoon - great way to inspire the troops. Seems like he's trying to absolve himself of having anything to do with Fields being brought in.
You undermine your coach like that too. Now Glenn has to be asked about Woody's influence in his decision if he starts Taylor or he's asked about going against the owner if he starts Fields. You are adding a distraction to a team that's 0-7 and circling the drain faster than any team in history.

Let Cook Brady!

After his first INT Jets fans will be screaming: "Let's Cook Brady!"

I'm not as informed as Jets fans but a lot of the things I hear about Glenn and Mougey are similar to what we heard here in Detroit about Campbell and Holmes. A lot of fans wanted them gone, especially Campbell. The big difference is we finally have a good owner here and you have a terrible one. I seriously wonder if anyone can succeed there, similar to how it was here for 60+ years when old man Ford owned the team.

Narrator: they can't

Woody is the worst kind of owner (and I'm sure Lions fans could relate): he wants to be involved in everything even though he has no feel for the game. But then when things go south, he just shifts the blame and hires the guys he handpicked.

Our owner was equally bad but rarely talked to the media, never pointed fingers, never got involved in day-to day operations or anything like that. He was incompetent and did it quietly.

Here's where being a Jets fan leaves you, thinking up crazy offseason scenarios before Halloween. What would it take to pry Mac Jones away from the 49ers in a trade this offseason (obviously they aren't doing it now)? Do that and then trade the #1 pick for a haul, use that haul to build the team around Jones (another WR or 3, edge, safety, LB, OG, etc...) and really attempt to become the Lions of the AFC.

I guess that's the difference between me now and a few years ago. I have stopped thinking about things like this. Sure I might wonder who the top college QB is, but that's where it ends until after the season is over. This team has killed my spirit. Only took 50+ years, but I got there. Well sort of anyway. I still watch every game, but I guess I don't have hopes and dreams anymore.
