Article linked in the OP says: “Irsay had dealt with health issues of late, having been treated for severe respiratory illness in January of 2024 and, in March of last year, said he was doing well after his 26th surgery in the past seven years.”

From all accounts his dad was an awful man.
I think Jim tried his best not to be that guy, though his demons certainly were because of his upbringing.
He at least broke the cycle of his dad the best he could and left a lot of people thanking him for his contributions to society at large. His dad didn’t leave that impression.
And that is something. May he finally rest in peace.

I live in Indy. Irsay was beloved here for all the good he did for the city and for Indiana as a whole. He certainly had his demons unfortunately. I believe he has 3 daughters and like 9 or 10 grandchildren. Pretty sure at least one of his daughters was fairly heavily involved in football operations? If I'm not mistaken, he did recently bring Peyton Manning on as co-owner.

I have a high school friend that would become friends with Irsay.
Every time he shared a story on FB, Irsay seemed like he was an ordinary guy not some extremely wealthy man.
I know he was a bit of a jokester in ways male friends tease male friends.
There were times people commented on him doing this or that when he was joking around and sometimes drunk. Rumor is....but I could just go to FB and see the actual story. I don't think there was one time the reporters got the story right.
There was a not all that good player that was cut. I remember his wife in videos, she wouldn't leave Irsay and my friend be. Irsay kept saying ya gotta leave and usually stuff. My friend tried and she was begging him for a new contract and he was umm I'm just a friend. Ya gotta get out of here. Everyone on Twitter was why would the Colts cut him and not just let him walk in free agency or trade the guy. I knew. I knew why.
Another time, they were playing golf and a player showed up wanting to talk contract.
Anything of significance, I never knew. Very much planned silence. I'm sure.
The bit I did learn was fascinating and I always thought it was so interesting how there's real life on FB and the rest of the world thought different.
He said "because I can" quite a bit.
One time on Sirius, they were interviewing him "why would you...." and he answered "because I can."
I don't remember the player or the circumstances sorry. Suppose they had this many RBs and no real need but they rrrreally liked a RB so he told his GM to draft him.
He explained that he spoke to the prospect and had a great vibe and everyone loved him and ....he was explaining all of our FF gut we sometimes go with. I know it's crazy and might not make sense to others but I just have this overwhelming feeling and I gotta draft this guy.
I was absolutely enthralled by everything written. I couldn't get enough and read more n more. Ordinary people, reporters reporting in ordinary context, no one seemed to understand and roasted him for it. He was compared to Al Davis and it was like a fourth or fifth round pick as if remotely similar.
He was getting out of the hospital and my friend was all wish ol Jim well and usual stuff. I remember typing how come no one knows this. Why doesn't he share this? He said to tell me no one cares. If I'm trading or drafting someone or raising ticket prices then they care. He was kind of upset and I was oof sorry didn't mean to upset him etc.
The last so many years, I haven't seen much of any updates on him. Idk why.
I really truly found him to be so fascinating. True life versus what was printed was so different. It always made perfect sense why people came to different conclusions and all. There wasn't usually judgement from me just absolutely fascinating how things can be viewed differently.

Jimmy was a world class powerlifter when he was GM of the Colts. He could outlift everyone on the team. Injuries led to painkillers which led to addiction.
He will be missed.
