Matt Maiocco, of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, reports San Francisco 49ers RB Frank Gore (hand) practiced Monday, Sept. 3, and is expected to play in Week 1 with some padding on his hand. The padding, however, should not limit his ability to catch the football.

J.P. Pelzman, of the Bergen Record, reports New York Jets RB Thomas Jones (calf) was stretching with no apparent problems Monday, Sept. 3. He is expected to play during Week 1.

Redskins | Portis expects to play in Week 1

Ryan O'Halloran, of the Washington Times, reports Washington Redskins RB Clinton Portis (knee) expects to play during Week 1 after supposedly going through all of the work during practice Monday, Sept. 3.

"Henry returned to practice this week after spraining his left knee in a game at Dallas two weeks ago. He'll sit out the Broncos' exhibition finale against Arizona on Thursday night but said he'll be ready for the opener at Buffalo on Sept. 9."

Panthers | Foster to start season as No. 1 running back

Carolina Panthers RB DeShaun Foster has held onto the team's starting running back spot. However, Foster will split carries with RB DeAngelo Williams. Foster will likely receive the goal-line carries for the team.

Pete Dougherty, of the Green Bay Press Gazette, reports Green Bay Packers RB Vernand Morency (knee) was limited in practice Sunday, Sept. 2, and has a chance to play Week 1, but likely in a limited role. If he does not play Week 1, he should be ready to play Week 2.
