Inside an Expert Draft (ExpertsDraft.com) (1 Viewer)

David Dodds

One note: This was done on Yahoo where they do not have Brett Favre. My Brian Brohm selection in the 15th round is actually Brett Favre

I was lucky enough to draw the 1 hole. QB TDs are worth 6 points, but per my Perfect Draft philosophy I let others panic and draft QBs too soon. That settled down as expected once most owners had a QB.

Looks like a pretty good draft for several of the teams. I wonder how telling the run on QB's throught the first 2 rounds is. I'm pretty suprised, as only FFGuideBook.com seemed to come out of it smelling OK.

Dodds, are you guys THAT low on FWP this year? 6th round (61)?? We'll have to wait and see, but I'm still just having a tough time trying to picture him NOT at ~1300 combined and 6 TD's.

Shocked at the 2 DST picks back-to-back. Can't imagine what kind of projections has you try to "freeze out" 11 other teams from a DST?

Nice looking draft

I like your wideouts and RBs

D, TE and K positions look solid too

I like Garrard as an NFL QB (very underrated), but given Jax's philosophy I'd be hard-pressed to take him at 7.

not a big fan of your RB depth either

reading the interviews, alot of em listed FBGs team as the "team that strikes the most fear in their heart"

good job!

My general strategy in these 16 round Yahoo drafts is to not load up on RB depth. Every year you can get a RB after a few go down, etc. Last year Ryan Grant, Earnest Graham, Selvin Young were all available. With just 16 spots, no one can protect all the backups and since we all have the same blind bidding dollars, I choose to draft with that weakness in mind (so as to be strong everywhere else).

Love your WR depth, the 1-2 combo of LT and Drew, and landed a nice TE in Clark too, but you have no RB depth at all and your QBs made me wince. Still, one of the better teams for sure.

I think I like FFEdge's the best. Top quality and depth all around - although it all hinges on McNabb's health -

Agree that your starters look pretty good. But Dunn and Morris as backups is pressing your luck a little. Wasnt crazy about the Mason and Dunn picks. I like the combo of Eli and Garrard at Q. Youd need to be on the top of your game all year breaking down their matchups.

Some of the other teams are just plain awful. What was the guy thinking who's RBs are Turner, Williams and Kevin Smith. That's an expert? Starting RBs for the Bears, Lions and Falcons. Sign me up.

Wouldn't another WR been better than Brohm at 15? or even another shot in the dark at RB? was Chris Brown drafted?

Just add: I pretty much agree with everything you said in the interview.

I'm still stunned at how early the QBs came off of the board in that draft - it's not like these guys are first-timers. All of the RB problems in 2007 (SJax, LJ, SAlex etc) must have spooked them.

Good draft David.

I just noticed that the other team you liked (FFEdge) didn't take a D or a PK.

With drafting in July and the option to make changes before Week 1, I tend to like that approach.

Did you consider this strategy?

This was not discussed before the draft started so I did not know that was even possible. I agree it can be a successful move. I am not sure it betters my team though in this case. I have a very good kicker and like the last guys I drafted. I doubt I am going to know much more about a defense without games being played.

Larry Johnson at 16 was interesting. Laurence Maroney ahead of MJD was also interesting. I bet you were licking your shops when Maroney was selected right before you took Drew.

I normally don't do this but I'll critique your draft a little just for fun. It's very hard to do, because every owner values players differently. Hind sight is always 20/20 anyway.

1. Nice pick with LT, anyone taking AP at one should have his head examined.(redraft)

2/3 I probably would have went WR/WR at that point. Fitz/Smith or something along those lines. MJD or Bush are also good picks though

5/6 I would have went RB/bpa at that turn if I took WR's in 2 and 3. You like Roy and Holmes better than me. I would have taken Harrison probably and tried to pick up AGonz later. In your situation I would have taken T. Jones/Parker instead of one the WR's you took. What you did was fine also.

7/8 I'll go ahead and say sorry now, but I think this was your biggest mistake in your draft. I think you reached on both those guys. I'm not high on either one this year, and better value was still out there to be had. You needed another RB (Freddie), and I would have taken WR ( Coles, Cotch, Driver). To me you could have gotten the same quality QB/TE in the next turn. But those quality RB/WR will not be there.

9/10 Eli was a great pick and comparible to Garrard. Eli with Shockey/Davis/Scheffler would seem the same to me as what you took at 7/8. In my mind better. You still need another RB in my book, maybe Green. Moss was the best of WR's available probably.

10/11 Mason was a nice pick, but don't like the Morris pick. You put yourself in the position to have to take him because you waited too long to take another RB. I might have taken Ricky Williams or Torain at that point. Either way NOT GOOD!

12/13 I just don't like taking stinking kickers early at all, and defense can wait also at this point. Pitts is not going to be that much better than teams that will be there rounds 14,15,16. To much value at other spots to take them this early. I would have jumped all over Crumpler or another RB.

14/15/16 You did find some value in Favre, Miller, and Dunn. I would have still rather had Crumpler and taken a kicker when I took Miller.

Overall, I think your RB situation is going to come back to haunt you. I know you think you can pick up some on the wire. Sorry to be so critical, just trying to be honest. You'll probably win the league! :goodposting:

I just read your interview and you kind of explain the Garrard pick. I thought you might say something about your not taking Parker or Jones in round 6. Bottom line is you jumped too early on QB/TE, and should have gotten a decent RB3 at some point. I understand that sometimes at the turns you have to take a chance because it's a long time until the next pick. It was easy for me, because I got to see that Eli was still there in the 9th.
