Hi Joey,Agreed. Round 1 was getting a functional product out there. I'm not sure if it'll happen this year or not but prettying it up is definitely in the plan.JI love what you guys do here and I'm positive the info in the iPad magazine will be stellar, but I gotta say the graphic design seen in the app preview you posted doesn't make it look like a modern app. It looks very 10 years ago. That's my only criticism. I will still buy it, of course![]()
Hi Pine,We designed it front the front end knowing we wanted to have it available via Android right away. So that's the plan. Android in the past has been much easier to get approval from than Apple so we got Apple done first. But the plan is to have Android right away too.I'm guessing this it's probably apples-and-oranges, but if you have an iPad app would it be difficult to develop an Android app? Just curious--I would love to take advantage of that.
If this works the way you say it does, you will have an advocate (except my league-mates), buyer, and new subscriber in me. My one league is very unique. We start 2QB, 3RB, 4WR, 2TE, 2D/St, and 2K. It's mostly TD with yardage benchmarks and bonuses that vary by type and position. Will the app be able to handle this type of customization? One of the biggest things about this magazine that I want folks to understand is that it's completely customizable. That's going to set it apart from the crowd. Much like Rate My Team, you'll be able to enter in data about your league size, your scoring rules, your starting lineup requirements and so forth. When you hit enter, the magazine basically reorganizes around you and becomes a magazine tailored to just you. And not just the cheatsheets and stat projections. Even some of the articles will reformat to reflect your situation. It's leveraging the power of our databases and it's something we're super excited about. For years, a lot of the web was essentially print material displayed on a computer screen. A few years ago, we did our Footballguys Magazine online and that's what it was. It's ok to do something like that but it doesn't have much advantage over print. With this new Footballguys Interactive Magazine, it's a whole new world. Really proud of my guys and what we've been able to do here. J
Hi Leeroy,It may not be able to handle the bonuses exactly the way you want but it'll be real close. Awesome. I'm super interested to see how this goes with Android tablets. When I talk to people that sell these apps on both Apple and Android, the feedback I get is that the Apple version will sell 100 times for every 1 version of the Android tablet. I find that a little hard to believe as I have lots of people asking about the Android tablet version. I tell these people that and they say, "Yup, everyone will scream about an Android Tablet version and then when you offer, you will sell 1 for every 100 iPad versions you sell." Interested to see if this is the case for us.JI have been a member of these forums for a long time but never a subscriber. I will be getting this once the android app is approved.
As long as I can put in the exact position requirements so that it values position properly, that would still work very well.Hi Leeroy,It may not be able to handle the bonuses exactly the way you want but it'll be real close. Hi butcher boy, Doug or David can correct me but I think it's just one at a time right now. JI think 100:1 is right considering the market share on tablets Apple has. I'm not really sure why someone would pick an android tablet over an iPad, but that's a different topic.
Will we be able to enter and save multiple league's scoring or can it only hold one at a time?
When I want info I hate needless graphics. Most sites like espn, CBS, etc were a lot more usable before they bogged them down with ridiculous and useless graphics and flash. Please don't "modernize" things and add garbage graphics just for the sake of making it pretty, it just makes it more confusing and less usable to get the data which is what is important.I love what you guys do here and I'm positive the info in the iPad magazine will be stellar, but I gotta say the graphic design seen in the app preview you posted doesn't make it look like a modern app. It looks very 10 years ago. Please don't "pretty" it up. A simple clean layout with minimal graphics is the way to go. On a data driven app people want to find the data as quickly as possible and not weed through pointless graphics. I want the info, not pointless graphics that get in the way.Hi Joey,Agreed. Not silly at all. But the answer is ipad or android tablet only. I mean I guess you could access it on an iphone, but I wouldn't want to and I don't think people will be happy with it. Although we may need to play around with that more. But for what we promise, I'm definitely saying tablet only right now.JQuick, probably silly, question. Will the app be available for the iPhone?
Right now, we're saying just a tablet. But this thing is worth buying a tablet for... JSo I can only get the magazine if I have a tablet? Or will it work on my laptop or smart phone?
I'm not sure if the option exists when you submit to the app store, but you might not want to even allow downloads to iPhones if this is the case. App store customers are a fickle bunch, and if the app sucks on the iPhone (even if the description says iPad only), you WILL get a bunch of 1 star reviews from people who dont know any better. Not silly at all. Hi Tom,For this year, no auction. Just regular draft. But I know that's something people love (I do too) so we'll be looking at it for the future. For anything other than a normal draft, folks will still want to use the Draft Dominator on their laptop. Although we will have good instructions on how to use a 3rd party app like GotomyPC for iPad where you can use your iPad to access Draft Dominator on your PC. This isn't anything we've created - we've just played around with this and it really does work well. And to be clear, for all the bells and whistles, this magazine app will most definitely not replace the FBG Insider Subscription. There will be lots of power features like auction draft calculations and such that it's just not capable of. It's definitely a "light" version compared to the full FBG Insider. But that's also the reason it costs 4.99 vs $28.99 for the FBG Insider. For a lot of people though, we think the magazine app will be plenty enough to handle their draft. I do realize it's not enough for everyone though. And by definition, the Shark Pool is way more serous than the Fantasy Football population in general. Check it out as we have more info and you can decide if it's for you.JCan't wait to download. One question, Joe: Will draft mode also support auction?Regardless, great work! Look forward to this being my go-to in-season app.
Really excited about this. Will it interact with(i..e., take the data/settings from) the existing "MyFBG" set-up? The ability to have MyFBG pull from your MFL league the scoring rules and roster composition is HUGE for large keeper/dynasty leagues.Much like Rate My Team, you'll be able to enter in data about your league size, your scoring rules, your starting lineup requirements and so forth. Hi Jamil,It's constantly updated everytime you connect to the internet.JHow up to date will this app be? Will it just be released with no updates?
Understand BUT linking it, or duplicating the ability to extract league data from MFL, would be huge. Practically, updating it and keeping it updated each week with all roster moves limits its utility - particularly for those of us with multiple leagues.Hi Ski,I think the answer to this is no as it will be a completely stand alone product from myfbg.Really excited about this. I'm interested in this too - but I'm guessing from Joe's response about the updating that it will work offline.Great stuff guys!'mphtrilogy said:Will it save previous info for Offline as well? I have a Wifi ipad and would like to bring it to Non-Wifi spots in the summer....
Hi bonscott,Right now, the ipad app will not support IDP in the draft mode nor will it have IDP functionality in the customization front end.We know that lots of you guys love IDP and it's something on our wish list for the future. But for now, IDP in draft mode and customization is not part of the iPad magazine. We know that's an area folks will be asking for.We are just trying to walk before we run here. The other thing I want to make sure folks understand is that like our print magazine was, this is designed to get you ready for your draft. The focus here is preseason. It won't have any new information added once the season starts. So for in season cheatsheets, news, game recaps, projections and anything to do with in season, this magazine won't cover that. For that info, we'll cover that like we always have in our Footballguys Insider Subscription. For 2013, we'll look at coming up with a magazine app that covers both the preseason and then all season long. It'll obviously be a lot more than $4.99 to cover the whole season, but if it looks like there's a demand there, it's something we'll look at for sure.Again, I apologize to the guys that want IDP in this magazine. It's not there now but it's something we're looking at for the future. Probably next year.Thanks.J'bonscott said:May have missed this question, but I assume it will support IDP including the draft feature?
Shouldn't be. My FBG Android app is working. We've done a lot of internal stuff for this year to make updating the iphone and android phone apps in season much better. JWhat about the current iPhone app? Is that dead?
Just checking because when I launched it the other day it hadn't updated in a long time (AP has the top ADP).So people who don't have an ipad can still get some FBG-mobile via their iphone or android. Just wanted to make sure people knew that (although different content - so get a subscription, the mobile app, and the ipad app to win all leagues).Shouldn't be. My FBG Android app is working. Thanks Leeroy. You're right, it's a little confusing. When folks purchase a FBG Insider subcription, they can view the content online as they normally would. And we also have a free iphone and android phone app, that allows people who have purchased the FBG Insider subscription to view the content on their phones. The app is essentially just a mobile version of the website that's optimized for smaller screens. The Interactive Magazine App that is new for this year is a completely standalone product and not connected at all to the FBG Insider Subscription (other than a lot of the pre season content will be in common). I know that's a little convoluted there. Looks like a good start, hoping that it gets a little more meat on it for next year. Things that I would suggest:1) Have some kind of drop-down or pick list to allow for multiple teams, with different scoring systems. I think everyone here carries more than one team.2) Integrate IDP, you guys have some of the best IDP coverage anywhere, it would be a shame not to include it.3) Integrate the full draft dominator, trade dominator, etc. into the app. They're basically just spreadsheets, so it shouldn't tax the computing ability of the tablet, maybe using google docs or something to facilitate.4) Add the app to the subscription or charge some additional fee to integrate both. I already have a hard time trying to keep everything straight working between a couple computers and not confusing the teams, free agents, etc. Having everything together working back and forth is the direction to move.5) Maintain the integration you have with MFL and add other league management sites as well so that free agents and news can be that much more cusomized. I know that I, and I'm sure others would like much more integration this way, so that scoring, rosters, etc. are all integrated into one place. It would be great to be reading through an article about player X and hover the cursor over his name and see that he is available in leagues Y and Z or that he is owned by team A or B. Click the team and offer a trade using the trade dominator to help determine value.I'm happy you guys are rolling out the app and I wish you the best. I know that adding these customization features will be challenging, but you are pretty close on the site already, just need a little "techno-push". Happy to shell out the $5 in hopes that it contributes to moving forward.

We're still working out exactly how the cacheing will work. The safe thing for me to say is that you need to be connected to the internet to make it work as this thing is constantly going back and forth to the web. But let us nail down exactly what will still be functional without an internet connection for you.JJoe this is a question I am wondering as well.
