Insight into CLE's 2008 RB situation please! (1 Viewer)

I have one RB spot on my Dynasty team and am looking to pickup a RB this week who at least has a possibility of doing something next year.

CLE is a good young offense with numerous weapons. Jamal Lewis is a FA at the end of this season. Obviously CLE is going to have to make some interesting decisions regarding their football team and salary cap going into the 2008 season. They are already paying Quinn decent money and will have to decide if they can also afford to keep D. Anderson. That situation can go either way. Also, it seems to me that they are going to have to spend some money on FAs/draft picks in order to improve their defense. That said, I don't neccessarily think it is a lock that Jamal Lewis re-signs with CLE. If he does not, do you think that either of the other RBs - Jerome Harrison or Jason Wright have a decent shot at being a feature RB there?

For some reason I don`t think the Browns will give Lewis a new multi year deal, it is possible they give him a one maybe two year extension.

No, it's not a lock they will bring back(re-sign) Lewis. And no, Harrison or Wright are not the answer. My best guess is that next year's feature back is not currently on their roster. Unless they sign a free agent(Michael Turner?), they will probably target one in the 2nd or 3rd round of next year's draft. Remember, their first rounder goes to Dallas from the Brady Quinn trade.

With no first rounder I see them spending the 2nd and 3rd on D. They may just go with Jamal for another year until they get a pick in the first round again. They can get him fairly cheap and they can spend $$ on FA's to fill other holes on the team. Think about is. As that passing game progresses and becomes even better there will be much more room to run. They don't need Walter Peyton in the back field. They need someone who can block and get the tough yards when need be. Jamal is that guy...

I think this is pretty accurate. Alot will depend on how Anderson & Lewis respond during the playoff run/pressure. If they fall apart, I could see the Browns going after Michael Turner for 2008.

:lmao: the passing game, and the power running of Lewis, are a good marriage.

This is a big question mark IMO for next year. I think it's pretty clear that we're going to tender Anderson, and if someone bites then we'll get a 1st and 3rd. I'm pretty sure that the top priority in the draft will be D-Line (we lack the most talent and youth there). So I don't see us going RB until after round 2/3... would a RB taken that late be an upgrade over Jamal? Probably not. If there isn't a free agent that the Browns prize and is an upgrade over Jamal (Turner maybe?), I see us signing Jamal to a 2 year deal. He's not a focal point of the offense anyways but he can get the tough yards. If we get Bentley back next year (probably at RG) the holes will be big enough for anyone to run through :lmao:

There's good value at RB in the 2nd, 3rd, or even the 4th round. Don't rule it out. I'd almost bet on it. The Browns won't draft defense exclusively on the first day.

Julius Jones is another free agent who will probably be out there, though I don't know that he would be the answer. Rudi Johnson may very well be another.
