Disclaimer: I am an owner in this league, not the commish, and am not the owner of either of the two teams referenced.
I'm in a 12 team redraft league that uses a stone-age method for documenting draft picks on draft day. They are written on paper, then transcribed and keyed into the league software.
The draft was held back in NFL preseason Week #3. All teams had their draft picks keyed into the league software within a day of the draft and were asked to validate that their rosters were loaded correctly. No comments came in from any owners, and league waiver wire and free agency transactions began a few days later.
TODAY, the commish gets a text message from TEAM A indicating that they had drafted the Baltimore Ravens DEF in Round 13 of the draft, and the RAVENS don't appear on their roster. After reviewing the rosters, the original draft records and transactions from the draft, the following appear to be true:
- TEAM A did indeed draft the RAVENS in Round 13
- The Ravens were never loaded onto TEAM A's roster when the initial data entry for the draft occurred
- A few days after the draft, TEAM B obtained the RAVENS through normal free agency acquisition
- Over 2 weeks have passed since draft day without this error having been pointed out by TEAM A (or caught by anyone else)
- The Ravens Week 1 game is tonight, of course. At present, they are on TEAM B's bench, not in their stating lineup
Don't really need commentary on the leauge should have chosen to use draft software and all that, just looking for recommendations on what the commissioner should do now that this situation has presented itself.
