IR spots for your league? (1 Viewer)

My league is having a big debate right now about the IR roster spot in our league. I am the commish of a 12 team, 30man roster dynasty league. I am of the opinion that the IR should only be used for players actually on the IR, and not for suspended players like Pacman, C Henry, Vick, etc etc. I wanted to pick ya'lls brains and see what you think. Am I wrong here?

The dynasty league that I am in ONLY allows for NFL IR players. Mike Vick is on one teams roster and until he officially retires he will be that teams property. Suspensions DO NOT COUNT in our league. I hope that this helps you.

You are right. I have it explictly stated in my League's constitution that a player must be on actual IR to be put on your roster's IR.

Great, thanks for the fast replies guys. Do ya'll know what the official NFL rule is about IR? I am trying to find some backing for my view on the issue. Thanks

I think that it regards a player who will be unavailable for the rest of that particular year. You may want to check NFL.com to verify that though.

Just that he has to be injured. Once on IR, he doesn't count against your active roster for that year, but you have to pay him his salary.

In a dynasty league, I agree, it should be available to only those players that have been IR'd by their respective NFL club. Having said that.... I think it is a very league dependent situation. Depends on roster size and lineup requirements.

For instance, in my local, we start 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, TE, K, D. We have 16 man rosters. We want to limit roster size so that teams that have injuries still have something decent to get off the waiver wire.... on the other hand, we had owners electing to play no K or a D in a bye week due to injuries. To solve that problem, we allow a league IR for any player officially listed as OUT by the NFL for that week. Then an owner can pick up a K or a D for that week(s).

In my 40 man roster IDP dynasty leagues, the player must be IR'd by his NFL team to qualify.

For my very basic local league, it has worked out really well. Simple and straightforward... if he's listed as OUT, he's IR eligable for that week. As soon as he is downgraded to less than OUT, that player has to go back on the roster or get released. No room for disputes.... and that's what league rules should always accomplish.

 it's all realitive to the construction of the league...

I'm of the opinion that any player that doesn't count against his ACTUAL TEAM'S roster limits shouldn't count against his FANTASY TEAM'S roster limits. If Michael Vick is suspended for the year and the Falcons don't have to count him towards their 53-man roster, then his dynasty team shouldn't have to, either.

for my dynasty, the player has to be on the ir or pup list on his nfl team to be put on our ff ir list. and once an owner puts him on ir, he is there for the rest of the year and does not count towards that owners active roster. at that point the owner can look on the waivers for something to replace his loss. but before the next draft he has to drop players to get back to the active roster limit, or lower if he wants to draft rookies.

We finally did away with the IR because a problem owner put a KC receiver on IR one week because he didn't make the trip with the team for personal reasons We got rid of IR and booted the owner,

In our salary cap IDP league, we do IR only for players with a status (on MFL) of Doubtful, Out, or IR. In the preseason, we allow moves for pre-season and camp casualties, providing a link is posted on the league message board, then I (the commish) will put the player on IR for them. We allow players to be brought OFF of IR at 2 points during the season (before weeks 7 and 13).
