Irony in your workplace (1 Viewer)

A lawyer is presenting to us (Marketing) about Communications Excellence. He is so boring I am fighting off sleep after five minutes.

I'm convinced that the legal industry has built an empire on making everything so convoluted and inane that only they care enough to stick it out.

My favorite is the company wide distribution of glossy 3 color pamphlets asking us not to print or copy anything unless it's really needed.

I can't tell you how many college education classes or professional development sessions I have attended about "good teaching" while the presenter is breaking everyone of the rules they are touting and acting in total contradiction to the words coming out of their mouth and the crap typed into their power points.

One of my TV producers, responsible for a flashy, high-quality, VFX-heavy TV show, still gets his cuts sent over on VHS tape

Yea you're not the only one who does that in TV. One of our producers still insists editing deck to deck.

Two people are running an area of our department in regards to delivery media on IPads yet neither of them own or know how to use one.

Once did minor service calls for a heating company. Just replacing parts.....nothing major

I got in trouble for being too efficient and finishing all my calls early every day because I wasbt putting in my full 8 hours

If me and the other guys get ten stops every day and I do in 6 hours what takes them 8-10 I should get to go home early

Maybe you weren't pounding the female customers the way they were.

I had to get a Big Name Hollywood Guy over to my office at a certain studio. Despite this certain studio having recently been renamed after the nearby major cross streets, he didn't know how to get there. So I had to print out directions from Map Quest, then FAX them to his assistant at his office (seriously, she called me from her desk, at her computer, and said "can you map quest the directions and fax them to me" because she didn't know how to do that herself & print them out), who then provided them to the Big Name Hollywood Guy (said directions were basically "leave your office and drive north for 2 miles).

Anyway, he gets to the guard gate and calls me up... he's here but has no idea where the building is. So I have to go to the gate and guide him to my building. He gets out of the car, which costs more money than I've ever had to my name in my life, looks around the lot for a second, and gets this quizzical expression on his face. "Didn't this used to be A Big Name Major Hollywood Studio? I used to run this place for about ten years."

I work in a convenience store. Poor people don't have meetings, we have too much other sh!t to do, like, I dunno, ...work.

Our Marketing director knows almost nothing about marketing. She spend all day creating PDFs that never get mailed out or printed, does not blog ever, does not use social media more than once a month to promote the business, thinks website traffic from overseas servers "counts" and generally poo-poos any marketing experts that solicit our business because "all they are selling is basic marketing services like newsletters and blogging..."

Nice to see other people work in the same industry as me on here. Send me a message, never know when one could connect. Been in the business for 8 years.

Our senior director is always telling us how important communication is. He has been in America for well over ten years and my 27 month old boy speaks noticeably better English than he does.

That's not irony.

One of my first jobs out of college involved "Quality Control" of videos airing. I was told that I was finding too many mistakes and to stop doing it.

A few years back, we had in-service training about how all of our lesson plans had to follow the EDI method. The training lasted three hours and never once did the district leader's lesson adhere to anything close to EDI. She must have said "EDI is the most efficient teaching method" twenty times, but apparently she thought her method of teaching EDI was superior to EDI.

I work for a civil engineering company. Most projects require some sort of environmental permit application(s). The amount of paper it requires to make the submission is ridiculous. I'm talking a van full of boxes of binders and rolls of plans. They need like 30 copies of thousands of pages and plans. These are environmental agencies - PDFs and CDs won't do?

Its not ironic to be scolded for being too good at your job?

Me and the other lawyer in the firm who handle our family law consults will pretty much always advise an individual looking to get married who has any assets whatsoever to get a prenup.

Both me and the other lawyer are pretty recently married and neither of us got a prenup.
