This certainly doesn't make or break any roster of mine, but I'm just trying to figure out whether or not Anthony Thomas is going to end up on another roster or is essentially retired at this point. I can't find much out there on him. What's the word?

If your roster size exceeds 60, I would keep him. If not, set him free. With the plethora of running backs in the league, I would be surprised to see him make the cut anywhere.
I think the vet minimum salaries hurt guys like that. He's probably better than some of the backups rostered right now, but they are younger and come a lot cheaper.
Plus, if I remember correctly, he didn't do much on special teams which limits his value as well.
A-Train also taking up a roster spot for me. Only because i dont want to take the salary hit and cut him yet. I am hoping he retires so I can cut him with no penalty.
Does he HAVE to retire if no one signs him? ... could i be looking at a situation where he just sits out there waiting for a call and doesn't retire all season .. ?

I doubt it. There was a WR named Bill Schroeder that last played in 2004, but just retired this year. I think there are other examples. QBs get signed during the year as emergency backups, but have not played in the league for a while.
A-Train = Mike Alstott. He retired. As for Thomas, he is probably real low on the free agent RB pecking order (behind KJones, Benson, Alexander, Dayne, Henry, and potentially Jordan). Not looking good for Anthony on the open market right now.
And to think a couple of months ago all of those guys were rostered (maybe not Dayne, not sure). He would have been a shoe-in for some job somewhere, but I would not be surpised if he hangs out there all season and comes up empty.
