Is an Objective on a resume important? (1 Viewer)

Haven't seriously looked for a job in 16 years, but I'm starting to feel it's time. As you might expect, my resume is a little 'dusty'. How important is an objective anymore? When I was hiring, I didn't care about that. I looked at experience, job history (did they job-hop), and spelling/grammar. Beyond that, I didn't really care. Anyone got any resume advice?

Objective?

Interviewer:  So what is your objective?

Interviewee:  To get a job so I can feed and house my family.

as one that reviews resumes the only impact it has ever had is for me to eliminate some people if it didn't look like something that was possible. I say just put your skills and experience, deal with the rest in the interview

They aren't used in my industry. Then again, we don't use resumes really either.
Well, I'm starting to wonder how relevant a resume even is anymore. Kind of necessary to have one, but that doesn't get your foot in the door anymore. You have to know someone.

Haven't used an Objective on a resume in over a decade.  I work as a contractor/consultant, so I push my resume around quite a bit.  Never had a recruiter ever ask me why it wasn't on my resume.  Never had the lack of one stop me from getting a job/assignment.  I think it's an outdated practice.  You can tailor a cover letter or work experience towards the job you're applying for anyways.

Thank you. Good advice. I've scratched it.

I could care less. I’m interested in education, grades, and work experience. Full stop. I don’t care that you enjoy biking and graphic novels. And I already know your objective is to get a job.

My objective?   Well I object to meeting a girl, taking her out for dinner...and then she won’t.....(bleep)!

Depends on field. Resumes are vital in my industry, they do get your foot in the door. After that, interview is everything.

I review resumes for "senior positions" after the selection, don't recall seeing objective on a resume, ever.
