I watched the whole game and I personally feel that with Davenport in on 3rd downs. Willie may have lost his job as the goal line back. No goal line carries in this game, but I guess we will soon find this out. I also feel his fumbling problem is a huge concern. parker ended the day 27 for 109. However, he had a run for 25 and a run for 22 yards. Take those out and he was 22 for 62. I also feel that with Carey Davis playing over Dan Kreider this is also going to hurt Parker.

Because they are chicken to go all the way. What you have to do is take out his 10 best runs, and then you can say: Take out his 10 best runs and he was only 14 for 24. There, doesn't that prove he's no good?

another way to look at his season outlook is to realize if Big Ben plays that well, teams will put fewer players in the box, and Parker will have even MORE room to run. A good passing game just makes the running game that much better. Ask Addai.

Why do people do this?

Especially with guys like MJ-D, FWP, and LT, these kinds of runs are EXPECTED. You do not remove them from the stat line to make a point. Even LJ has a good history off busting off long runs. Unless it is a guy who rarely, if ever, busts out 20+ runs (Rudi and Chester Taylor come to mind) why would you use selective statistics like thAt?

This is why I come to the shark pool. If you take away his 27 carries, he had no yards rushing. Thats right.. NO yards rushing. This would really have to concern fantasy owners. The guy is on an offense that will move the ball. The TD's will come. Willie will have 1500 yards rushing and 12 TD's. Nothing to worry about.

exactly... take away those types of carries from barry sanders and he's an average to below average RB... I'm not sure why FWP detractors are not mentioning the 27 carries

how does not getting the 3rd and short carry automatically translate to him not getting the goal line carries? parker was pretty effective last year as pitt's goal line back... everyone should be making their assumptions based on that historical precedent... not the fact that he didn't get the 3rd and short carry... now the fumbling issue is another problemlet's see what happens once pitt actually does have a goal line carry...

It really is not that simple, Johnny. I asked those questions for a very good reason. FF numbers from FWP come through total yardage and long D TDs.He was OTH last year due to 10 GL TDs, but he also scored 5 TDs from outside the GL and 1 receiving TD from the GL. Add in his yardage and you have a very good FF player and a crucial cog in the Steeler's offensive machine.And if you are in PPR leagues, he's going to add in even more FF value that way - that makes up for a lack of GL carries.And then pre-supposes your erroneous assumption that Parker will simply "lose" all his GL carries.

Fumbles are legit but my buddy pointed something out... when willie fumbled he wasn't wearing elbow pads (the ones like Bettis) those came on immediatly afterwards. I don't know if those help that much or not so that is still concerning. Other than that I don't think I saw Willie have one negative carry he was always getting 2 or 3 yards and then he busted off 2 big ones which he has always consistently done. I do think Davenpoop deserves some more work but nothing to significantly cut into Willies carries.

I did, indeed, watch the game. I also watched every Steeler game last year(when, incedentally, Parker and Dookie were teammates) You're worrying about nothing. Parker's about as close to a mortal lock to get double digit TDs this year as anyone outside of Tomlinson and, probably, Larry Johnson. They Steelers will run a lot and he's the primary ball carrier. They intend, and tried yesterday, to involve him more in the passing game(he dropped a couple targets). Do the math.Dookie Davenport isn't going to be stealing goal line touches from anyone, primarily for the following reason: He pretty much sucks in short yardage situations(hence, why he was almost never asked to do it a year ago....when he was on the same team.....with Parker). Parker, conversely, does not suck in short yardage/GL situations. Ergo, Parker is nearly certain to get almost all of said short yardage or GL carries if he remains healthy. Having said all that, if you're a Parker owner that was that worried at all about his TD output in ' 07 why didn't you just draft Davenport in the first place?

Let me ask all of you sharks when somone is getting the carries on 3rd and 1 and 3rd and 2. What does that say? I can understand if it is 3rd and 5 and Davenport is getting the carries but when it is 3rd and short and they are running the ball I would expect my best short yardage player to get the ball. Jerome Bettis would get these carries along with goal line. Why is davenport getting this carries. PLEASE EXPLAIN THIS TO ME. 3rd and 2 at PIT 47 (13:03) N.Davenport right guard to PIT 48 for 1 yard (D.Jackson). 3rd and 1 at CLV 33 (4:45) N.Davenport right guard to CLV 26 for 7 yards (L.Williams). 3rd and 2 at PIT 40 (12:07) (Shotgun) N.Davenport right tackle to PIT 47 for 7 yards (L.Williams, E.Wright). You say I have nothing to worry. Well why is Davenport getting short yardage carries.

Yeah, I'm a little concerned. I saw Pittsburgh a little more comfortable with pulling Parker and using Davenport than I'd like. I know it's happened before but I was hoping to see him with more 3rd down work than this. It's just one game. And it's no time to panic. But I'd be lying if I was thrilled for Parker how yesterday's game went against a Cleveland team. And I'm as big a Willie Parker fan as you'll find.
