Is Calvin Johnson - the ultimate Sell High candidate ? (1 Viewer)

In a 14 team PPR redraft league with deep rosters, where you can start up to 4 WRs a week with flex spots, I traded just him after week 3 for Roddy White and Anquan Boldin. Doubling down, kinda.

No regrets (I think), hoping it works out over the course of the season. He can't catch 2 TDs a week forever I thought and the 2 TDs a week the first three weeks artificially boosted his numbers. In PPR anyway.

The main reason I felt I had to do it was to get extra depth when Kenny Britt went down for the year and that his value would never be higher with White and Boldin's never being lower. Getting off to a 3-0 start there was no chance to grab anybody off the wire in a league full of savvy owners. You almost want to lose that first week.

If Britt was still flying high, I probably keep CJ. Traded him to a team 0-3 at the time that had Stafford (he's 1-4 now, I've already played against him.) I was 3-0 at the time of the trade and am 4-1 now with my only loss coming to the best team in the league. Didn't even need Boldin last week on his bye week to win.

And finally at some point, he, Matt Stafford, or both of them are going to get hurt. I already have Jahvid Best as a starter and didn't want to put all my eggs in Detroit's basket. So good trade, I think...we'll see...

I think one the positives for CJ is that he has put up numbers no matter who the QB is. I am not sure you can say the same for most of the elite WRs in the league.

I agree that his TD pace is inflating his value, but no way do I trade him for White/Boldin. Julio Jones has come on much quicker than I thought & I'm not even sure White will be a true #1 by the time ff playoffs roll around. They did a study on Monday Night Football showing CJ's range, basically saying if you could get a throw within a 2 car garage of him, he had a shot to catch it. Once Stafford learns how to use his size, he could put up monster yardage games. The best may be yet to come.

I thought he was disappointing today and then looked up and realized that he had 18 pts in my PPR league. If this is a "down" week, there's no way I sell.

He still had a pretty decent day regardless. This was probably the best defense they played against all year.
Probably the best D they will play for the entire year
Are you watching the dallas game. Detroit threw jump balls vs them all day and should continue to do that. But yeah, Dallas is the best defense they will face.
Amazing that a team can totally forget how easy Calvin can score on a jumpball inside the 5.

It was amazing/frustrating watching the Lions settle for FGs in the redzone w/out a single jump ball to Megatron. Head scratcher for sure

Curious what people are thinking...

1) Stafford got hurt (but looks to be fine)

2) His value is pretty darn high right now and could net a couple of good players

3) Most leagues are about 2 weeks out or less for trade deadlines

Has anyone moved him recently...if so, for what? (Note: I am speaking redraft here)

1.)I don't think Stafford playing is a issue. he has not played well all year but Calvin carries him. he would do the same with Hill.2.)He could and should net a couple good players.he is the best WR to have right now.3.)I seen a trade where Calvin was traded for Turner and Nicks.

If I was trading away Megatron, I'd want a young stud WR + something else for him. I'm thinking Nicks, AJ Green, Dez Bryant plus maybe a buy low like CJ. Hard to trade a stud away, unless it's for 2 studs.

After week 4 I traded him, Hunter and DQwell Jackson for Brady, Colston, Julio Jones, and Hawthorne. He is a stud but I was 1-4 and desperate. Now I'm 3-4 and 2nd in total pts. (In week 6 I traded Brady, Bradshaw and AJ for Brees, Matthews and DJax) So far so good.

Yes, how are those sales figures working out? There is no one who has enough to get Calvin off my team.

If you are trading studs for a quantity of mediocre to good players, you're doing your FF wrong. HTH.Translation: NO!!! #### NO!!! and again NO!!!!Why would sell high on a guy that's FINALLY playing up to the potential everyone thought he would? Are YOU high?! Are you allergic to winning or something?!?!?! Shark pool, indeed. :wall:
Bump  CJ is now averaging less than half as many fantasy points per game as he was in the first half of the season. He's performing well, but you could have gotten a king's ransom for the WR that was on pace for 30 TD's and to break all fantasy records...likely an absolute stud RB if not more.'Sell High' isn't rocket science...yet it's such a difficult concept for some owners.Take this as a lesson.

Selling high for a Arian Foster or Ray Rice, if not more, after the string of 2 TD games from CJ, is looking brilliant right about now.

Oops.
If you kept him and you made the playoffs, it starts paying off this week. He plays MIN, OAK and SD who have given up 1st, 10th and 4th most touchdowns to receivers.

Bears, Packers and Saints ain't no slouches. law of averages my friends, if some of these 80 and nothing games would have been mixed in through out the year rather than all coming at once, this would not be a topic of discussion right now. If he does nothing the rest of the year you may have more validity to this argument.

Back on October 22nd, I sold Calvin, James Starks, and Aaron Hernandez for Roddy White, Ray Rice, and Scott Chandler. Since that week, in my league, Calvin has only outscored Roddy White by 2 points while Scott Chandler has outscored Aaron Hernandez by .6 points. It was a move that I had to make due to the DMC injury, and helped me make the playoffs, which I wouldn't have done had I sold Calvin.

:goodposting:The "bad" games aren't going to last much longer. These secondaries don't have the manpower to stop him.
