Is Carson Palmer a good buy low? (1 Viewer)

In 2 redraft leagues (1 of which you can start 2 QBs at the SuperFlex spot), I am offering JT O'Sullivan for Palmer.

That is my personal view of his "market value". Yes, its a "buy low" value but I honestly think that their balance-of-year production will be comparable. I do think that Palmer has more upside as while the Bengals will still suck, I can see them evolving into a team that at least amasses very solid garbage time passing stats in many of these losses.

Although I am a Palmer owner, I tend to believe that Palmer will turn it around and put up middle of the road to good numbers. WHY? Because, Cincy will likely be playing from behind in all games. THey are going to have to throw. Now the issue may be with the line.

The team is going downhill. IMHO the Bengals are playing poorly because they just don't care. I relate it to the following:

1. The unceremonial dumping of team leaders Willie Anderson and Rudi Johnson right before the season along

2. The war of words between Chad Ocho Cinco and Palmer before camp and

3. The re-signing of C. Henry despite the comments of Marvin Lewis

The team has no passion. They are all playing like they do not care. I think the first one above is the biggest problem because players see how longtime leaders are treated, and in this case it was poorly. I wonder if Marvin Lewis had a say in this or if the owner simply said if they aren't starting we aren't going to have them on the roster week one and guiarantee the large salaries for the year. My thought is it is the latter, and the players know it.

But as for Palmer, if he can stay in one piece, he will be throwing a lot and the weather will not always be a factor.

He has to be a good buy option. I can't see how he can be this bad all season long. He has been too good for too long.

Will he be elite again? That's a tough one. But, get him if you can and worst case is that he is a very good backup. Maybe he will reemerge and then you are cookin' with gas.

I'll say by at pennies to the dollar now as some fantasy experts are now advocating insanity like starting Tyler Thigpen over Palmer this week ;)

Yeah he is not going to be stud QB this year but good WR + Henry + crap D + not awful OL will put up enough points to make him serviceable and I think ~QB8 or so is still possible.

There is a very real chance you can buy him NEXT WEEK EVEN CHEAPER than this week. UGLY matchup (NYG).

Glad I found this topic as I'm struggling whether to buy the guy low or not. [As a backup QB] I believe I read he's thrown like 5 TD's in the last 7 games he's played.

They've looked horrible (I'll give a mulligan for last week due to bad conditions -- which is a scary thought because it's not likely to be better come December, but Collins outplayed him by a wide margin -- inferior WR's, on the road, and isn't the team's franchise QB. He looked equally as bad Week 1 @ Baltimore. Perhaps all that time TJ and Chad missed this preseason hurt that much. It's shocking how off a passing offense that's been intact for 5 (?) years now looks. Even in the few occasions Palmer's had time, he hasn't done much with it.

I'm not sure if I bought low or not, but I gave up Tom Brady for Carson Palmer and Jerricho Cotchery in a 16 team league. I had only Delhomme left at QB and needed Cotchery to bolster my last flex spot, but it was far and away the best offer I got for Brady.

Palmer is 3 years younger and has a track record of throwing 25-30 TDs and for around 4,000 yards, which is exactly what Brady was before last year. He may end up lower than his career marks this year, but his situation will have to improve and I can't see any reason to believe he won't return to the form he's shown for years already.
