Is Dustin Keller the biggest TE disappointment since... (1 Viewer)

His talent and sporadic production make you think he should be rostered, but then he disappears for weeks at a time. So you bench him and he comes back with a 2 TD game... Now he's probably out this week again and he'll be questionable all friggin year with his hammy. The dude reminds me of Jeremy Shockey a few years ago. You know it's there, but you rarely get it.

Why is this guy always ranked in the top 12 in preseason?

He was ranked well in pre-season because there seemed to be no other receiving options ezc Holmes. Then he got hurt in pre-season and is still not healed. He was probably just in week 1 as a decoy and did not even travel with the team last week. I don't think you can say he is or is not a disappointment at this point -- on performance anyway -- since he basically has not played yet.

He is usually ranked 11-15, so yes, he fits into the "top 12", but that is like complaining why Joe Flacco does not put up 30+ TDs...he is what he is...if he sees the field, I am sure he will finish around that that 12-14 mark for TEs on a PPG basis, just like we drafted him at.

Problem is, I saw him ranked as high as #7 in some mainstream preseason rankings (no, I don't have a link), and he had more than the usual amount of folks coming up with reasons why he's "ready to break out". Maybe they're just J-E-T-S homers, I dunno, but this guy has never broken out, yet I hear it every year-- much moreso than the typical hype you hear about every player. Basically, I just would like to know if anyone believes he'll put up better number than his first 4 years or am I holding onto an average TE who now will possibly be dealing with hamstring issues all year? Did anything really change with the Jets? Sanchez still sucks, right?
