Is Eddie Lacy officially a stud Running Back? (1 Viewer)

I can't see him falling out of the top 5 RB's taken next year, honestly. Charles, Shady, ADP are probably the clear cut top 3 right now.

After that I could see any order/combo of Forte/Lacy/Lynch/Bell/Bush/Murray/Matthews/Stacy/Morris rounding out the top 12. Of those guys, I don't think I'd consider anyone other than Forte over Lacy.

I had posted this earlier, but it is not crazy to have Lacy go as high as 1.06 next year.

The only 5 players I would absolutely take over him are ADP, Charles, McCoy, Calvin, and Graham.

After that, he's in the conversation.

Personally, I wouldn't go that high as I tend to prefer players with a more proven track record for my first round choice, but there is little doubt he's a first rounder next year.

And I completely disagree with their analysis. Common sense alone says that taking a few hundred extra hits would wear down any person's body. Sometimes common sense overrules a small sample size of "analysis"
Common sense tells me two things.

1. Football is a violent sport, and beyond the risk of catastrophic injury with every carry, I would expect each individual collision to wear a player down.

2. Players are built differently, and some are better able to handle a large workload than others.

Now, the first point tells me if I could create a counterfactual where we cloned Adrian Peterson and gave ADP2 a light early-career workload, I would expect him to be better late in his career than ADP1. The second point, though, tells me that if I know absolutely nothing about an RB except that he had a huge workload early in his career, the conclusion I should be drawing isn't "well, then he must be close to breaking down"... it's "well then, the guy must be one of those freaks who is built to handle it, and I should expect he continues to do so going forward".

If an RB gets a ton of carries, he proves that he's capable of handling a ton of carries, and so I would expect him to continue to get a ton of carries going forward. Or, to put it another way, I would expect there to be a positive- not negative- correlation between early-career workload and late-career workload, even controlling for other variables. If I have two 28-year-old RBs coming off of a 1500 yard season, I'd much rather own the guy with 2000 career touches than the guy with 800 career touches. Some people view that as "mileage" and avoid him because there's not a lot of "tread left on the tires". I see that as evidence that the RB in question is one of the league's true workhorses, and I love me some true workhorses.

I'm just curious where LeVeon Bell falls compared to Lacy in people's opinions?
I've got them 5th and 6th in my most recent dynasty rankings. Bell over Lacy because (a) it's PPR and (b) lingering pre-draft injury concerns regarding Lacy's toe. I'd be thrilled to own either.

5th and 6th overall or 5th and 6th rb?
5th and 6th among RBs. I wouldn't take either in the first round of a startup, but would target both at the top of the 2nd.

I just read an interesting article in the Appleton Post-Crescent from Friday. It spoke about how FB John Kuhn's contract just expired and whether or not Green Bay will bring him back. RB coach Alex Van Pelt said that Kuhn is one of the best blocking RBs in the league. Notably for Lacy's stud RB prospects, he stated and I quote "We probably wouldn't have a true third-down back. It would be more, 'You stay in, you're an every-down back' which we started off early in the season with. At certain points, you have a comfort level with John that's huge." The article said that Kuhn had 320 offensive snaps in 2013, with a majority coming as a blocker.

Seems that the main takeaway from the article is this: If Ted Thompson lets Kuhn go without bringing in a true fullback-type, that is a tell-tale sign that he feels confident that Lacy can learn to handle 3 down back duties. If Kuhn is brought back, Lacy will still be quite valuable, but expectations may need to be tempered.

This is somewhat obvious stuff, but I found it interesting that the RB coach (Van Pelt) specifically laid it out there.

He's looked good, but with a healthy Rodgers do they feature the run game next year? If so, Rodgers moves way down. Even without Rodgers most of the year GB is 9th in scoring.
Green Bay ran the ball prior to this year, they just got zero production out of it. Lacy will be featured, and Rodgers will still be a top 3 FFQB. See 2008 and 2009 from Ryan Grant. McCarthy will give Lacy 280-300 carries as he did with Grant. Rodgers was a top 3 guy then.

I think Lynch needs to be on that list ahead of him.

I am going to say no, in the sense that there are a few WRs and a TE I would take in redrafts ahead of Lacy, along with a handful of RBs.

Guys like Calvin, Green, Julio, Gordon, Demaryius, maybe Marshall (might be missing someone here). Also Graham.

I dont feel like looking up all the RB names but there are at least 5, maybe 7-8???, that I take ahead of Lacy.

I guess if I view a guy as a "stud RB" I would view him as a sure thing 1st round pick. I don't see Lacy that way.

Lacey in the 2nd would be a steal.

1st Lacey

2nd WR (Demaryius, Dez)

3rd WR (Fitzgerald, Julio Jones)

4th RB (Bernard, Rookie RB, McFadden, Stacy)

5th QB (Wilson, Kaep)

6th WR (Patterson, Smith)

Dalton, Baldwin, Reed, Bennett, Garcon, Seahawks Defense, Khiry Robinson...

I still feel he's absolutely a first round pick. I could see him as high as 1.06, but see a more likely landing spot between 1.08-1.12.

If I could land him in round 2, I'd be elated.

So for the sake of argument, which players would the SP absolutely take before him? Which players are in the conversation in the slots right around him?

Mine (Absolutely Before)

Charles, McCoy, ADP, Calvin, Graham

In the mix:

Lacy, Green, Julio, Brees, Rodgers, Martin, Forte

This is what he's doing with Matt Flynn at Quarterback. His Touchdown totals could theoritically go up purely based on the amount of opportunity he's going to have. He's a pretty decent threat in the passing game from what I saw this year.

He almost seems like a better Marshawn Lynch in a superior offense.

Jamaal Charles

LeSean McCoy

Eddie Lacy

Adrian Peterson

Marshawn Lynch

Chris Johnson

Giovanni Bernard

I don't want to jinx myself but Lacy has looked in credible in Green Bay. Not sure there are many other Running Backs I'd want besides this guy at this point.
I'll draft you again next year Lacey, don't let me down!
