Is it just me? (1 Viewer)

last year was absolutely horrible and they were supposed to have fixed this problem, at least some. Not sure about that because although it seems like there aren't as many as last year when it was like 3 an inning, it's still bad. Sooner or later something is gonna get stuck in a fan and I'm not talking about Alyssa Milano.

:goodposting: This started last year.

The players have gone to a maple bat with a thinner handle and a thicker body. This obviously weakens the handle and causes the breaks.

The Players LOVE these new bats...and will not be giving them up easily.

First injury I've seen sustained this year from one happened last night in the Rangers game. The Ump got knocked out (cold?) from a non-ash bat.

A lot of players use ash bats and there was an epidemic where ash trees have been killed or weaken by a bug outbreak...

I had that game on and thought the ump got impaled when I first saw it. The bat just snapped in half on Blalocks backswing. They said the same ump missed a couple of months last year from catching a 100mph heater to the dome. Tough luck.

Agree with DD, last year was very bad and I remember several articles about the danger for fans and how MLB is going to fix it.

They changed the orientation of the grain in relation to the sweet spot this year and several players gave up maple, but I dont think anything has been done about the smaller handles. I havent seen any articles on bats breaking recently, and they were all the rage last summer, so the issue has probably subsided some.
