I think the fallout makes the Democrats look bad but also emboldens Trump and the GOP.  They have an open invitation to push the boundaries of his power even more.

I don’t think it’s about his base. It’s that he has seen as long as he has the Senate, they are likely going to vote with him no matter what. Why not try to cheat or rig the election now? He’s got protection. Another impeachment trial is very very very unlikely.
