Now that we've seen Edge (ostensibly one of the best backs in the league) perform in Arizona, I'm wondering if the fantasy community was a little hasty in its judgement of Arrington the "super-bust".
The good news for Edge is that he has almost 400 yards and is on pace for a 1000 yard season. That bad news is that it has taken him like a million carries to get those 400 yards with an astounding 2.7 YPC.
And it isn't the first time Arizona has made a good/decent back look bad. Thomas Jones was the last ultra-bust at RB. Looked absolutely pathetic in Arizona, but went to Tampa and looked good/great and then to Chicago where he's looked anywhere from average to great depending on the span you are looking at.
Arizona has had one of the worst running games in the league for as long as I can remember, and I don't think it's all lack of talent at the RB position. As a unit, Arizona is averaging 2.5 YPC a FULL HALF YARD worse than any other team in the league - even Houston.
Given all of that, Arrington's ROOKIE performance doesn't look all that bad to me. Yeah, he had some issues, but the same things that are happening to Edge this year, happened to Arrington last year. Everybody was saying he couldn't find the holes, but I don't think the holes were there to find. He was never really given much of a chance either. He averaged 7 carries/game. If any other back got 7 carries/game we'd be hearing all about how he couldn't get into a rythym. Personally, I think Arrington's apparent ineptitude was more a product of playing for Arizona than his actual talent. I'm not saying the guy is a great back, I'm just saying we don't really know WHAT kind of back he is, because every back that plays for Arizona ends up looking bad, whether they are or not.
