Is Joe Bryant among the Growing Legion of Patriot Haters? (1 Viewer)

yeah, there's not much football on this board, so I just stop by to check the funny pats hater threads crying about the mean pats beating up their teams, or whatever else.

the pats success has really brought out the worst in a certain type of people.

although, if it weren't the pats, I'm sure they'd spend their days anonymously sniping somebody else online.

edit ps

I've never actually heard a moth whining about a flame, although I'm sure they would if they had the internet.

Pat PatriotWere you there?I would have loved that, but I settled for flying my Packer Flag that day, having a party, and celebrating the first Packer Championship in my adult lifetime as a fan. Before Harlan/Wolf/Holmgren arrived we were the Bengals BEFORE the Bengals were.I will say, thank god it was still Bledsoe!
I went to the Packers and Rams SB's, both in New Orleans. Packers fans seriously outnumbered Patriots and then Patriots fans had a significant edge on Rams fans (in defense of the Rams, it was their 2nd SB in a row).I think all SB's should be in New Orleans. Both times were exceptional. 1-1 in live SB's for me.

L.A. isn't the best place for a good roast beef sammich. Or Pizza. Or.... well, lots of food.....
:popcorn:There's good food of all varieties here, you just have to know where to go.
Mexican food pretty much everywhere back East sucks. Chinese pales as well too.But to be honest as a native San Franciscan... bread, sourdough bread doesn't seem any different here, than anywhere else. Me thinks a lot of times, ppl are just used to their style combined with homerism.Oh... and most sushi not on the west Coast is average at best.
I agree with the Mexican food comment. I spent a week in Boston once taking a computer class, and I got tired of seafood, so I set out to find a Mexican restaurant. I must have found the worst one on the eastern seaboard. Other than that, I really liked my dining experiences in Boston. The best Chinease food I ever had was a dump in Louisville, Ky called Spring Deer. They were so cheap they used space heaters to heat the place, but the foot was out of this world. The best Mexican food I've ever had was a place called El Pinto in Albuquerque, NM. I lived there for a year, and I must say that I prefer "NewMex" over "TexMex" any day of the week.
Too bad you didnt ask I'm sure someone would have sent you to The Border Cafe in Harvard Square. Great food and better margaritas.Great Chow in Quincy is the best Chinese food.Kelly's Roast Beef in Revere and Riley's Roast Beef in Alston are the two best late night places for food. The only better place is Haven Bros in Providence from my college days.
Yes there's lots of good food here - I was just kidding around.... joking ,as it were.... in fact one of the best slices of pizza I ever had is down in Redondo Beach (from displaced Brooklynites...).And the Mexican food here is of course, great.Still want a good Roast Beef sammich tho, so fellow LA folks can hook me up ifn they want.Cause a good deli not in a grocery store has been tough to find....Humor around here is becoming a scarce commodity.......
Indeed... it's all humorous... just funny how ppl say one type of food is better in another place vs another. It is SUCH a crock... look at the "transplant" cities like Phoenix, Tampa, Houston, etc... same guys from Chicago/NY/Boston... hell they even bring the same oven... yet somehow it's still not as good. The only legitimate scientific proof, and even then.. it's based on preference, is around actual atmospheric differences. ... for example, a la wine from California>wine from Minnesota.Seriously...how is a roast beef sandwich better in Mass than elsewhere... can't be the beef, can't be the bun, can't be the cheese... the lettuce? Exactly. I'm all for pride, but let's be real. For the record, the best hamburger I've ever had was on a tiny French island... go figure.>>Too bad you didnt ask I'm sure someone would have sent you to The Border Cafe in Harvard Square. Great food and better margaritas.Guessing the 'ritas weren't that good... just what you're accustomed too ;-) j/kSpeaking of Hahvard Square... had a lobster mac/cheese that was unfreaking relentingly good. Went back days later.

And that's before we start talking about the fact that you still have to breathe the smell of buses and taxis on your way in and worry about the cockroaches in the back whenever you eat in NYC.
Why the backhanded slap on NYC? Oh wait, you're a Pats fan. Boston has mass transit all over it, including your own cockroach infested restaurants, yet you and your arrogance can't help but make a backhanded comment on NYC's taxi's and buses. You're a joke.
damn, talk about thin skinned.......just pretend that was a random shot and lighten up, sunshine.
I don't live in NYC, I was just making an observation. By the way, you are one of the worse Patriot fans on this board. If anybody brings up the Patriots you are like a moth to the flame whining.
It's ok. Us New Yorkers are used to the Boston folks and their inferiority complex by now :pickle:

LOL, how dare anyone say anything about the Pats other than how super duper awesome they are. Enjoy it Pats fans, you're in the midst of one of the best seasons ever. Stop whining over every little slight, insult. You're following your coach.
It's not that slight and it's not that simple. That Patriots bashing is well beyond that point of reason and has become a major detraction of this board. The discussion of Sean Taylor and his team's effort to memorialize him is a serious issue. To twist that into another in a long line of Patriot accusations is just wrong and exemplifies the preoccupation with NE. Get a life, people!
:pickle: I genuinely feel badly for people who can't just enjoy good times when they come. If you're waiting for the season where all NFL fans hold hands and pay tribute to the sheer awesomeness that is the New England Patriots, and nobody ever bashes them or criticizes them...you'd best not hold your breath. Behind the glossy cover of a storybook you'll find uncomfortable truths. Maybe the team got busted for bending the rules. Maybe some of the great players on the team don't care about anything but a payday. Maybe your favorite guy is about to be cut in the offseason to save some money. Football is a business and you are a customer. That's pretty much it. So if you're really getting your money's worth this year...enjoy it. Don't wait for everyone else to come on board, and don't have such thin skin that you have to bristle at every slight. Just enjoy the success. When the Buccaneers won the Super Bowl in early 2003, people were saying that it was really Dungy's team, and they won because Gruden knew what plays the Raiders were going to run, and the owners don't care about football and would happily move the team if they could, and Brad Johnson was over-rated, and they didn't have a running game, and the Eagles choked in the Championship game. You know what I heard? They were all Charlie Brown's teachers-- wah wah wah wah wah. I was too busy celebrating a championship. NE fans have had three to celebrate, and now a dominating -- possibly perfect-- season. Your cup runneth over; your mouth doesn't have to. Happy Holidays.

Interesting because this thread you stopped by to check out, was started by a Patriot fan having a meltdown, because Joe wrote some random shots about the Patriots, which all had truth to them. Joe writes things about all teams that are unfavorable all the time in his random shots thread, but nobody else has started a thread crying about it, and saying they will never subscribe again. Why didn't you accuse the OP of being thin skinned?

I just want to raise a general objection to the word "hater".

1. It sounds dumb.

2. It marginalizes the other person... essentially labeling everything they say "irrational" with one broad over-generalizing swoop.

as did the op's subject line.

With all due respect, I've eaten at plenty of New York delis, and it's not even close. I'm not talking about deli meats, even if they carve it off of a cold slab of roast beef in front of you. Precooked meat just isn't as good as freshly cooked meat. We can disagree on whether a warm sandwich is generally better than a cold one, or whether Kelly's rolls are better than the ones at your favorite deli, or whether a good barbecue sauce or mustard or a slice of cheese belong on a sandwich, let alone vegetables. Those are all a matter of taste. But the big difference here is that the top roast beef places around here are cooking roast beef, then cutting off a slice of rare meat and putting it right onto your sandwich. Warm rare meat is better because it's softer - cold tightens up the muscle in beef, and makes it tougher. And that's before we start talking about the fact that you still have to breathe the smell of buses and taxis on your way in and worry about the cockroaches in the back whenever you eat in NYC.
You're not eating at the right delis then.
I might not be. I've been to quite a few but I'm sure I'll be back there again soon and would love some recommendations. Are there places in New York that make a good warm roast beef sandwich like the one we described?

Yes. The question is where you'll be staying/working. We don't exactly go out of our way for delis here - there are about 2-3 per BLOCK :boxing: I work downtown in the Financial District, so I could recommend a couple in that area. There's two within 200 yards of my building that both do fresh turkey and/or fresh roast beef.

Koya, the person I was talking to, lives in New York. He also said that New York delis have better sandwiches, and I think he meant better roast beef. He even compared the quality of their Boar's Head meats favorably with meats in Boston. I strongly disagree, and listed my reasons. I also talked about why the whole NY deli experience is worse for me than it is for him. Yes, Boston also has Mass Transit and cabs and cockroaches. Honestly, the smell in most of New York is so bad that it makes my whole trip there worse. Your experience might be diferent. The delis I've been to have been in downtown NYC. The roast beef places I'm talking about are not downtown. I don't know why you get all salty about this. I'm guessing that you're not a very happy person if a conversation about sandwiches makes you call someone a joke. I recommend a good roast beef sandwich. Nobody can be unhappy with good roast beef.

I'll keep that in mind. I like fresh turkey, too, and everyone knows that the top two sandwiches in the world are clearly the roast beef sandwich and the day after thanksgiving sandwich. But I can't nap at work, which presents a problem.

Sounds like it's the perfect word for this situation.

Kelly's Roast Beef is so vastly overrated it is not even funny, it's like Legal Seafoods. Great reputation, used to be good, not anymore yet people still flock to them. The one on Revere Beach is decent, the rest of them are crap. Even the one on Revere Beach is a shell of it's former self, the quality blows. There's a thousand roast beef places better than there, their roast beef tastes like sand paper half the time. Plus it's completely over priced. That's my completely off topic rant for the day.

I love their rolls, but I agree that Kelly's has gone downhill over time. It's a lot more hit or miss than other places, but it's the best example to use for this conversation. Which places would you recommend? Especially on the north shore?

I usually enjoy Random Shots. But after reading yesterday, couldn't help but feel annoyed by yet ANOTHER member in the growing nation of Patriot haters and had to voice my opinion. It's bad enough the Monday Night Football broadcast was dedicated to rooting against the Patriots (wheeling Mercury Morris out of the asylum and Don Shula out of the home for the evening, voodoo dolls in hand), but now Footballguys own Joe Bryant seems to have joined in the hystrical masses, pitchfork and burning torch in hand, to decry my team. It seems that there is no intellect applied anymore when criticizing the Patriots, it's all emotional.

It started out somewhere in Week 3 when he asserted that the Patriots would not go undefeated (still feeling confident about that prediction Joe?) and has snowballed slowly into this week's acerbic not so random shots at the Pats. Here are some highlights:

Few games live up to expectations but the Washington - Buffalo game was as dramatic as everyone thought it would be following the death of Redskins safety Sean Taylor.

In one of the cooler things I've seen on a football field in a while, Washington opened the game on defense with just 10 players for the first play as a way to pay tribute to Taylor. Pretty moving.

I'm just glad they weren't playing New England as the fake kneel down - throw long to Randy Moss play probably wouldn't have gone over well there.

Okay, first of all, and this is a bit of a non-sequitur, but in my opinion, starting the game out with 10 guys on the field was incredibly stupid. These are professionals being paid tons of money in a sport in which each game and each play has signficance. But that's neither here nor there, was it really necessary to take a shot at the Patriots here? I get it, they are heartless, soulless heathens who would dance on the grave of their fellow man. Got it.

Here's another one:

New England only failed to cover by 16 points this week. That's better than last week...

So what's your point here Joe? What are you saying? Is this humor? Is this insightful in some way? No. Is it Patriot hating? Yes.

But wait...there's more!

The reality is that New England was busted for cheating this year. They were hit with unprecedented fines in addition to losing a first round draft selection next year. It was a very serious punishment for a very serious offense. Acknowledged cheating threatens the very thing the league holds most dear - the integrity of the game...

First of all, just wanted to say  But, it's highly debatable how serious an offense this was or how much it actually benefitted the Patriots when A) every team changes their defensive hand signals every week to prevent "espionage." and b) Every team in the league is bending the rules to gain an advantage.

Sure, Goodell had to appease the other team owners in the wake of this highly publicized violation and hit the Patriots with a meaningless fine and take away one of two first round draft picks, but in reality, the penalty really doesn't hurt the franchise.

It just brings me back to the point that this board has become infested with such irrational Patriot hating that I can't even read these opinions any more, and now, Footballguy #1 is contributing to the cacophony. It is a shame that human reaction to the success of others is usually envy/anger. And I'm tired of seeing it.

I'm from Boston and have had plenty of opportunities to be around the organization at corporate and charitable events and games. The Patriots are an organization that does things the right way. From the executive level management, to the players, to the administrative staff at Gillette. They are incredible contributors to the community, genuinely down to Earth and humble people that are extremely good to the fans. Moreover, they are a football team that stresses an unparalleled commitment to winning, personal sacrifice and teamwork.

If you can't at least appreciate the Patriots, you're just confused. In consideration of the above, after five years, I have unsubscribed from Random Shots and will not renew my membership to Footballguys.
It amazes how insecure and how thin skinned NE fans are. Their teams are kicking everyones tail, yet they feel the need to defend? Dude, that comes from winning. The Yanks fans catch so much junk and this is because....winning does that. I know you haven't had a history to understand how to cope with it, but you better learn as Belichik is a genius and Theo knows what the heck he is doing and even the Celtics have their act together.Outside of that, spare us the melodrama

Which places would you recommend? Especially on the north shore?
I'm personally a fan of Land & Sea in Peabody, which is pretty close to Centennial Park off of 128. Their prices have gone up recently though and they've also been a bit more spotty than usual, but they've been outstanding for as long as I can remember. Nick's Roast Beef in Beverly has always been great to me. I'm not sure I've ever heard of anyone being disappointed in their food.I live in Salem, MA and walk over to Fred's Roast Beef when I'm in the mood and they're well above average.

Nope. How clear do I have to make it? Stop trying to hide behind Sean Taylor's corpse and get some thicker skin with regard to your excellent team. What in the world is wrong with you people? If hearing untoward comments regarding your favorite NFL product is such a "major detraction" at FBG, you know what to do. The rest of us are pretty happy here.Happy Holidays.
